There ARE kids who want to become pro RL players in Vic ahead of being AFL players that is FACT. Now we just need some to have the talent to make it but it will happen.

Once one does watch others start to make it. The Under 20s will help immensely.

It's probably to better to hold back with your opinion when you clearly know little or nothing about the topic you are discussing. I can assure you from first-hand experience that there are alot of kids in Victoria who don't like Aussie Rules and want to be the next Kingy or Billy.

The Storm have previously poured alot of their junior finances into Brisbane Norths and will probably continue to spend up bg on the Central Coast, but there are a heap of kids (especialy those with Islander backgrounds) who are working hard to make the NRL and they should not be discounted. As an earlier poster stated, it willonly take one to make it and there will be plenty lined up to be the next big thing.

Give Melbourne a break, show a bit of support to the growth of the "National" Rugby League and most of all....wake up to yourself!! :sarcasm:

Anything to back this claim up ? That is of course unless they are expat NSW, QLD or NZ. I would also suggest that a kid once told you does not really count. If it is a fact I would love to see something to back it up.

Id like to see the numbers of QLDers or even Brisbane kids playing for the Brisbane Lions similiarly for the Swannies (with NSWers).

Those sides have almost 20 years of history in their states, Im betting their local juniors are about 2/3rds of f**k all.

Current Swans players born in New South Wales: Lewis Roberts-Thompson, Nick Davis, Kieran Jack (son of Gary), Paul Bevan, Leo Barry, Brett Kirk, Jarrod McVeigh, Ben Matthews, Adam Schneider. About double this number are playing with other AFL franchises.

Some of the more famous VFL/AFL players born in New South Wales include Haydn Bunton, the three Daniher brothers, Wayne Carey, Paul Kelly, Dennis Carroll, Troy Luff, Greg Stafford, and Russell Morris.

There are some parts of Southern NSW where AFL has been played for 100 years, and the game is at least on par with RL....

How many kids from Sydney are running around in the AFL??

Now divide that by the millions that the AFL puts into the game each year in Sydney, and what have you got??

really ? victorian kids now live in the central coast and brisbane north ? interesting.

these are two of the areas that i identified as being more important and more deserving of expansion sides. the storm bring very very little to the table in comparison

Yes but Albury, Wodonga and Canberra do not count as Sydney

But to be completely fair - NSW encompases at least 3-4 major cities.

I'm not s storm hater by any means, but I think with the storm signing half the australian schoolboys and junior kangaroos teams every year, there is limited opportunity for young victorians.

But your sort of backing up my point, League had a much smaller presence in Victoria than AFL did in NSW, yet in all that time only 9 players(in a 18 man, is that right, game) are playing for the Swans, (How many first graders out of that lot by the way?)

Like to see the figures relating to the Brisbane Bears/Lions also, Im guessing it would be much lower.

the afl have squads of 50

of the current swans: about 6 are regular starters in the firsts

of those 6 approx 3 are from sydney
