Vuna on Lookout For Early Release!

Just read in todays Newcastle Herald that Vuna is looking to get an early release. West Tigers have showbn interest, and his manager is also exploring options in England. Lack of oportunity in first grade is the reason he is looking elsewhere.

Have to say I think he's been managed poorly by the club. It seems obvious to me that Vuna could have done with some sort of minder, I'm sure his current position re trafic fines and resultant infringements were prob due to ignorance of the law or pure laziness on his part, and I also think the club has over re-acted in standing him down over it. Vuna is an asset we should be trying to keep, and frankly is a better wing option than some who have been playing there recently, including Uate.

I hope the club sort something out and keep him here.

How old is he? Minder was a poor choice of words, maybe advisor?
He has been ignored football wise As far as I'm concerned. He played well v roosters and has been ignored since, standing him down over the trafic infringements smacks of looking for excuses not to pick him. The club could have advised him re those fines I have a21 year old and he would do that sort of thing, too many other things in life to worry about and enjoy without worrying about fines. That's how young people are.

Vuna wasn't stood down because of parking infringements. He broke the law.

And the club being able to help/advise Vuna would be based around the assumption that he informed them of the situation in the first place. I don't think they would have let it get to this stage if they had known.

Well seriously, if you were Cooper Vuna, how the hell would you feel about the club when they continue to name Keith Lulia and Wes Naiqama in front of him - on the wing.

He must think its April Fools come late seeing their names on the sheet week in week out.

Sure, Cooper may have been underdone due to injuries, and not as fit as he can be most of this year, but he showed more in his 1 starting game this year than Wes or Keith have shown all year, that's for sure.

Good luck to him. If he gets his release, I hope wherever he goes, he kills it.

i agree with karma. i can totally see where he's coming from (although i think it's a bit whiny and soft... imo he should man up and keep pushing for selection). lulia and wes getting picked ahead of him is a bit of a joke. lulia hasn't been woeful... but wes certainly has been, and the fact that he seems to be ahead in the pecking order is quite absurd given how well coops played in his 1 match this year.

i really don't want to see the bloke leave, he's excellent off the field in terms of his involvement with the club and community.

100% correct Karma. Vuna IMO is way ahead of those two and as I said Uate at the moment, he has shown enough in the past to warrant perservering with, sh!t it's not like he's killed anyone, gone out on a bender and punched someones lights out, or abused anyone. He has been poorly managed by the club, or at least to an outside observer he has. Sure Uate may be a better long term prospect but ATM Vuna is a proven performer and deserved to be placed above Keith Lulia and Wes Naiqama.

100% agree mate, I can't believe every week when he isn't picked, especially after his awesome performance against the Roosters. :crazy:

Before this gets out of hand too much I swear we were told a couple of times earlier in the season that he wasn't being considered for selection because he was well over the weight he should be (105kg instead of the 97 he should be or something like that). No idea if thats still the problem but if it was it certainly would explain why Lulia and Wes have been picked ahead of him of late...

Anyway even if the above is true, this is all a little surprising to hear, given all the feel good reports this season about him contributing as much as he could to the team while his knee was getting better etc etc

It is his own fault that he has stuffed up with this driving while unlicenced stuff - not the clubs fault. Who knows, maybe he has an idiotic manager in his ear saying "you aren't getting picked, they are keeping you away from 1st grade even more as of this week and the driving stuff - go somewhere else mate", when the solutions to these problems lie mostly with himself.

I would have Vuna in my side. he is twice the player Lulia is.

If I were Vuna I would look elsewhere as well and I wish him all the best.

The only problem I had with the initial post is that the Club somehow handled the situation poorly in standing him down and have some sort of obligation to a person who is incapable of making everyday decisions expected of an adult.

He is also overweight, should the Club give him a fulltime advisor so he stops eating ice cream?

If he fails to pay his rent should the Club be expected to advise him that in these crazy modern times he needs to pay rent?

Electricity bills? Advisor required?

Crossing the street? Where does it end?

When is a young person expected to take responsibility for the day to day processes of life in regards to simple things like paying traffic bills?

That's good, I'm pleased you explained. My workplace offer counciling to employees on any number of issues, and I'm sure you'll find Coles and the majority of large companies do likewise (research it I'm sure you'll be surprised at what you find). I'll assume the club was unaware of his trafic fines etc. Notwithstanding all of that, IMO he has been poorly handled by the club as a player, and at this present time would be a better option on the wing than the guys replacing him prior to him being stood down.

Seriously, you could go to your employer and say "I have these traffic fines, and they are going to take my right to drive away, what should I do? Cause you should have the foresite to see, that even if I dont pay them and do loose that right, I am still going to drive"?

Would they 'counsel' you, or simply say 'ummmmm, you better pay them'

I agree that Vuna probably deserves a shot on the wing.

But I can tell you this, since his return from injury, he has known what is required to get him a start in NRL, and he has not met that requirement. It was by no means an impossible ask.
