2 nrl debuts this year with tiny amount of funding. We got this when we get an nrl club!

Jeeze nsw has a lot of clubs

Surprised how few pins there are. Probably same as afl clubs in WA despite a fraction the population. It’s a shame rl isn’t more dominant in Sydney, the tv audiences for Sydney are always way less than for afl in melbourne.

Papua New Guinea launches bid to become NRL’s 18th team I'll be surprised if there isn't significant political pressure to make a PNG side happen. It shouldn't happen under any circumstances, but they might actually be in with chance considering the political environment in the region.

What a waste of effort, over 2700 pages on talk of WA and the NS BEARS, when PNG was always the target, i still reckon West Coast Bears would kill it, they should still persue it and try to land licence no.19, by then no.20 will have NZ2 ready

The article says they are chasing 60 million from the federal govt to fund rugby league in the area

shorten had promised if he got elected he would support and help fund a png team

maybe south’s fan albo will retain this policy

that still leaves Adelaide png central coast and somewhere else

I don’t think population or finances will be an issue either

as the nrl expands more players and money will come into the game

I don’t care what anyone says my dream is a png team. That would be massive for the sport

people can say it’s third world all they want it’s nine million people and it’s largely untapped

the two expansion teams that excite me the most are nz2 and png

Do you really think footballers in todays age, would adapt to the culture shock of PNG? Can you see families uprooting themselves from Sydney or Brisbane to play in PNG? I can’t see happening. Rather we focus on Perth as the next team in.

And what happens when they inevitably get their star players poached from other NRL teams? You have to be able to recruit.

Also bear in mind that like the Dolphins and every other side that has entered the competition, for the initial period, their squad/team would have to come from players from other teams

They got 9 million people

probably 1 million people nrl players lol

and if the team is a chance it will be based on cairns which I couldn’t be bothered mentioning

and no way they are team 18 anyway

Good audience figures on Fox for Sunday nights game. This only strengthens Perth's positioning as that slot is ideal for a WA team with it being 4pm KO and a game day in Perth, with a 6pm KO in Sydney and Brisbane. I can see Fox being very keen.
