No way Perth bid invites them in. Then allows a 50/50 split
Bears aren’t going to just allow their colours and heritage to be used. Of course they will be asking for a share of it.

esp if they want north leagues to put in money and use their juniors

Yeh well that’s how the world works sunshine

politics is everything

wa just played the game and came up trumps

Perth had one guy to impress and they just did

and nobody before him has delivered on a Perth team at least this guy does things rather than talking a good story then letting the clubs railroad them
Just a shame he doesnt do things right lol.

I find it highly amusing that a few days ago NRL werent interested in Perth and NZ2 was a shoe in according to some on here, now they're favourites because it involves resurrecting a sydney club. GROTD has a point re sydney centric thinking lol.

I’m sure they could find a modest amount of Sydney based fans and offer a membership package that allows them to attend a few away games every year.

Opening the door to even one home game at NSO or SFS would lead to them pushing for 2 then 4 then 6 then probably 12 at the first sign of struggle.
yeah no home games in Sydney, get Manly, Roosters or Souths to move their home game to NSO if they must play 1 there.

After what happened last time though?

They either want their colours in the NRL again or they don't.

They won't join a NZ 2 bid or Brisbane 3. So this is their only chance really

I've no problem with a 20% share and a seat on the board.

I do think Rothfield has probably jumped the gun though in the name of selling papers in Sydney. I'd be very surprised if the WA Govt hasnt also talked to Sage, Cummins and Puddy given all three have been very clear about wanting to put a bid together.
Bears seems to be all about getting the stupid Vlandys to see Perth's potential through appealing to his Sydney centric tribalism BS.
It may well be one of the otherr three has a far more compelling story to tell the WA Govt.

Bears ready to manage the licence if the Perth experiment fails

No chance.

If the game spreads to Perth then broadcast rights will be sold as such. No chance the 18th licence goes anywhere but the city that gets it

When Origin is played in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth the majority of locals support Queensland because they hate NSW. I cannot see people from Perth wanting anything to do with a Sydney club when they hate the state almost as much as they hate Victoria. The biggest gripe of Western Australians is how everything is centred on Melbourne and Sydney. An NSWRL team playing 10 games in Perth and two in Sydney would add to the perception that everything is run by Melbourne and Sydney.
Solve the problem

Play 3 in Perth and 9 at NSO or Gosford

The Western Australian government have shown great interest in a possible merger with the North Sydney Bears in a bold bid to be the NRL’s 18th team.

The Daily Telegraph’s Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield revealed that the Western Australian government are interested in merging with the North Sydney Bears to become the NRL’s next expansion team.

The Minister of Sport for WA David Templeman and Chief Operating Officer at VenuesWest Peter Bauchop jetted off to Brisbane for Magic Round, speaking with NRL powerbrokers about the possibility of joining forces with one of rugby league’s oldest clubs.
“The Western Australian government sent their minister for sport and the boss of venues WA to Brisbane for the weekend to have meetings with key people at the NRL and a couple of club sides, trying to look at ways of launching a bid for an 18th team,” Rothfield told Sky’s Big Sport Breakfast.

“They reached out to the North Sydney Bears to form an alliance in which they would probably play ten to a dozen home games in Perth each year at the rectangular stadium (HBF Park) there, but then play four at North Sydney Oval.

“It’s a terrific move, there’s no way that the Bears are going to come back as a single identity because there’s too many teams in the competition in Sydney right now, nine teams all struggling for the same corporate support.”

The NRL have made it clear that any proposed franchise must bring a new fanbase, financial backing and cannot hinder the support of any existing clubs.

“If you think about it having a government underwrite the team in Western Australia, having the massive corporate support out of Perth, having that red and black jersey, having that great brand, having that logo back, to me it is a no-brainer, I think it would be a fantastic thing for rugby league,” Rothfield said.

“I spoke to a few old Bears fans yesterday, passionate old fans and they seem reasonably happy with this arrangement, particularly they’d get three or four games at North Sydney Oval.”

Exiting the competition in 1999, former NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley is excited about the prospect of a Bears return.

“I want to see the Bears back into the competition and I don’t care how they come back in,” Daley said.

“I think this would be a strong alliance in particular with the WA government getting behind them and that’s possibly the best bid to be able to sustain them long term.

“I’d just love to see it, I think it would be one of the great rugby league stories if the Bears were back in the competition.”

How do they get 10 to 12 games at Perth and 4 at nso. Those figures don’t add up. They should be clear they mean Sydney clubs moving their home games there

perhaps the bears can buy home games off other clubs

and what does the government underwrite them mean exactly ?

haha this is Rothfield, you expect it to make sense? Whilst other clubs play 12 home games looks like he thinks WA Bears will get 16 :)

Why would Roosters and Sea Eagles take a home game to North Shithole Oval when they'll have brand new stadia of their own?

It would be like swapping a Mercedes with a Datsun and asking people to go on a joyride.

Bears in Christchurch could be successful. Manly have a following over there from what I've been told, so maybe it would translate into a rivalry of some sort?

The only way they'll draw a crowd at NSO is by paying people to enter the ground.

Who wants to sit under a tree and get shit on by a bird?
