WA BEARS

Agree, while we're at it, get the Broncos to play 6 games at the SFS and Storm to play 11 games at Redfern oval.
MugaB and siv will be very happy with you for finally seeing things from their perspective! 😜

In all seriousness, if this bullshit plan from the WA government goes ahead then they'll kill RL in Perth. It'll be Northern Eagles 2.0, except this time Bears will have the upper hand.

WA government funding this failed broke-arse club that doesn't even have an RL ground despite being around since 1908 won't go down well with Western Australians.

What happens when the idiot running WA is voted out for wasting tax payer's money on a Sydney club?

Will the next government continue to fund a Sydney team that is reluctantly playing 10 games in Perth because it's the only way they'll get in the NRL?

My guess is Western Australian tax payers, especially the ones who love fumbleball, will not have a bar of this and will vote for whoever says they'll can the idea. That will be enough to end the gravy train, which will give the Bears and ARLC a convenient excuse to relocate the club back to North Sydney.

The WA Govt wont be funding the club. They'll hopefully be investing in the infrastructure for the club and the Jnrs for NRLWA.

I wouldn't take too much of what Rothfield says as gospel, Bears back makes for good headlines in Sydney. I very much doubt the WA govt has a plan, I suspect they are talking to all interested parties to see how they could help support a club being accepted into the NRL. They want HBF park used more and maybe even Optus if it becomes very successful.
They were probably at Magic Round by invite of NRL to discuss bidding for it.

Lucky the arlc weren’t using your ground criteria when admitting teams huh ?
Sunshine Coast Stadium is getting an upgrade for the 2032 Olympics and will be fit for NRL games.

My guess is Dolphin Oval will be used for 6pm Friday games that wouldn't draw shit at Lang Park. I remember reading that the NRL cannot stage games at Lang Park on a Friday night before 7pm. I think Magic Round is the only exception.

No NRL game should be played in a stadium with only 12k capacity, its a joke.

Even if they get the upgrades Sunshine coast will still only have 12k seats and the rest grass hills.

Lets hope the next club in is better thought out than Brisbane2!

The article written by Rothfield said the WA government will underwrite it.

“If you think about it having a government underwrite the team in Western Australia, having the massive corporate support out of Perth, having that red and black jersey, having that great brand, having that logo back, to me it is a no-brainer, I think it would be a fantastic thing for rugby league,” Rothfield said.

I cannot see Western Australians wanting the government to pay one cent for a Sydney club.

I reckon its including trials, 10 perth, 2 nso, 2 trials nso
Trials in Perth, 10 games in Perth, two at NSO v roosters and manly. Sydney bears supporters have 8 games in Sydney they can watch locally at away games. It will be up to them to make the effort.

You can’t see it because you don’t want to see it. Simple really.

lol, now youre believing what Rothfield thinks?

As you rightly pointed out no way a WA Govt is directly funding an NRL club, the other sports teams in the city would blow up deluxe. The Libs tried it with the Force and it nearly cost them a corruption charge. That doesn't mean however they cant spend a lot of money doing things that will help a new club long term.

For example the previous WA Govt built Rugby WA/Force a $17million headquarters and training centre at Perry Lakes and this one is currently building soccer a new centre of excellence for $16.25million.

They could have had all 12 games at Lang Park if they went with Brisbane Firehawks!

It just shows the ARLC doesn't care about improving the game. Everything is about Sydney. They're not going to care about the quality of stadia when the Sydney clubs play out of shitholes.

Go ask anyone from Perth what they want and stop thinking the world revolves around Sydney.

I actually have friends in Perth who I communicate with everyday on social media. They couldn't give a f**k about rugby league. The last thing they would want is their taxes funding a Sydney RL side that died because it had no money of its own and bugger all fans.

That one is on News ltd and Vlandys incestuous relationship with them not on Sydney

Let's just hope they're smart enough to make the NRL sign a contract stating if the Bears go tits up because locals couldn't give a f**k about a Sydney club then the Pirates get their licence.

Once again, it wont fund the club directly.
it will fund a new NRLWA and WA club HQ/CofE, it will fund an upgrade to HBF park meaning bigger crowds and more corporate sales and it will fund more money to NRLWA to increase jnr and womens participation here, hopefully!!

That would be just one assurance I would be seeking from the NRL before I'd see $150mill plus of tax payers money spent for the benefit of RL here.
