Be good to see!

For those who dont know we went from 10k registered players in the early 90's to less than 1k by 2000, and we are back up to over 4k now. If we could get that up to 6-8k in a decade that would be a great rebirth for the game here. Needs a well run NRL club and much better funding for NRLWA to do it.
I'd go out on a limb and say we'd knock off that 10K within 4 years from the announcement. The influx of x-league juniors from Rugby would be huge.

Maybe the nrl like Puddy‘s bid and are releasing this as a prelude to club 18? Bring back the Reds!

I don't think it's out on a limb, it would happen for sure.
I lived in Perth in the early 90's, rugbybleague was very popular. There were even designated pubs that Aussie rules fans were put in the back bar.
I'd love it if the Reds came back.

As much as I think pirates offers some amazing merch, marketing and game day experience potential I’d still love to see the Reds brand back. Was never a great fan of the kit but the logo and brand was solid as. What Australian sports team wouldn’t love a kangaroo on their badge!

when we were putting our bid together in 2010 I joined to lead the development of a supporters club. We chose RedArmy as name of the supporters club. Nuke did us a cracking logo. Even had Trent Barret come and help out on the stall one game and Sterlo drop by to offer his support lol.

Might not be so fitting today with the ruskies going full hitler though!

Yeh those are def Pirates colours! I think given dolphins have snaffled them if Pirates got in we’d need to go with a predominantly Black main colour with scarlet red and old gold trim. Could reverse to a predominantly old gold with red and black trim as away and a mainly white With the three colours in the trim as second alternate. Western Reds jersey as heritage. logo needs a rework as well to make it cleaner and more digital platforms ready

Colours of teams teams will cause some grief.
The hardest hit in that regard have been Parra.
Both the Titans and Cowboys adopted blue gold with a twist.

I think whether they admit it or not there is a begrudging respect for League amongst fumbleball fans because when it comes to toughness League is the real deal. That`s why I have no doubt a Western Australian Rugby League team will be a success.
Not unlike the Storm where all but the most maniacal fumbleball fans will keep one eye on them, as reflected in the Storm`s popularity on the recently released figures on Rugby League twitter followers.

Yeah agree, the Reds brand is a winner, the Pirates brand to me is a bit Disney or childish or something.

I surfed some real gnarly spots when I lived there. The Bluff and Kalbarri up north, and Margaret River in the south. Those people that surfed those waves daily had a real hardness about them inside. You don't get that from people in Melbourne, and that other game.

I think a dark green, silver and black kit would be unique for nrl but wouldn’t work for any of the proposed wa bids sadly.

in all honesty I haven’t come across any real I’ll feeling from afl fans I’ve met. Generally there is massive lack of awareness and understanding about the nrl, you’d be amazed how many think Western Farce are an nrl club!. but origin has certainly helped raised the consciousness of the WA public to the game here. I reckon there’d be quite a few converts from afl ranks if we got a club.

Especially if we made game day a real must do event. Wildcats have done a great job in that regards and fill the areana. Win or lose it’s always a fun night at the basketball. Big bash here started well but seems to have got stale pretty quickly with game day must do feeling.

I think a predominantly black jersey with a gold V with a red v on the top lining of the gold would work well. Away jersey exchange the red and black around.
The colours you say would work for another team, not a WA team.

I’d go another Kiwi or QLD team for those colours. Black would be a bit hot in the WA sun.

Back to the WA Bears.
One of key sticking points will be in brand. For me to show they are a genuine WA club the bears name and branding needs to have some big changes. Now they’ve said this is a Non negotiable but in alL honesty if they’re not prepared to make it look like a WA club then the idea should be put in the bin.

what we’ve had so far fan generated so this is a good brand at what it should be.

logo. Has to be reworked to modern style that doesn’t scream north Sydney, this is by far the best we have seen so far though colours might look a bit sht on a badge and on digital application

home shirt. An obvious throwback to the western reds but this shirt is still much loved over here and screams WA club.

Away jersey - Representing the ns bears heritage and sure to be a winner on the east coast, but incorporating the new clubs primary three colours, red, black and yellow/gold

0FF119AE-7734-43ED-9A3D-396DFB449A46.jpeg

Away alternate - for any clashes or when mainly white just works better

So there we have what should be our non negotiable in terms of brand change.

If anything the reds jersey should be a heritage worn for special occasions, the other two are so boring they have no presence about them, just because its red and black doesn't mean its automatically bears, that might aswell be the wanderers...
Need a design that says its the bears but envokes WA with more gold and black
The current '23 NS jerseys were done really well, a design similar to that would be better

The away in white, the home in black, trim them with some gold

dont like the white one but the black and red with some yellow trim could work well.

Looking at ns revenue, the fact they are a saturated jnr market for nrl talent and that their answer to the money issue is they have people who want to be owners of the club, not sponsors, im more and more inclined to a WA consortium looking to join forces with east tigers instead.
Easts have more money, stronger jnr base and I suspect wouldnt be hung up on the ownership, game day location and branding like bears are.
a partnership with easts, say 25% club ownership could work much better, firehawks wouldnt work so a new name both groups support would be needed. Orange and black is obviously taken so would need some unique colour scheme developing.

stumbling block is easts are probably feeling theyve got a chance at some point in the future of getting a nrl license so may not want to abandon dream to part own a WA club?
