Your comparing a rusted on rugby league state with a rusted on afl state that’s the problem

even if Perth population grows to 5 million it will only be able to support one club (at best, fingers crossed)

whereas as beisbane grows it can support more clubs

we all really hope Perth can come up with a financially viable rugby league team

they wouldn’t get support this time for a super league every other club is happy with the arlc
So why mention regional nsw?

No not for a minute, but then afl runs it’s game, not the clubs like nrl. Like I said it management genius, expand and get the rich clubs to pay for it so it isn’t really costing you anything. Even Vlandys couldn’t pull that off lol

you didn’t answer the question about the tv content if they didn’t have these clubs.

Afl have lost 200 million in western Sydney..

So you think the eagles getting 9 million whilst the giants and suns get 28 million makes sense ?

the club with fans is keeping the clubs without fans alive. That’s clearly a misallocation of resources

the giants and suns should be allowed to die if they don’t have enough fans to support them not be artificially kept alive by the afl hoping they will work one day

You can have that argument if you want but think of it this way.

Do you think that somebody who earns $50k or less should pay the same rate of tax as somebody who earns a million?

It is essentially the same economic/capitalist argument.

Firstly, you could make an argument ethically (someone who earns that money like the Eagles in the AFL case should keep more of their money because they have earned it or conversely because they earn their money by virtue of competition/society/capitalism, they have a vested interest in making sure that the competition/society/capitalism remains healthy). You could see that as either a right to that money or undue selfishness or greed.

You could also make that argument functionally. Say the Eagles might earn less now but IF they forgo that money they may also ensure that the competition is more valuable, thus ensuring that their grant remains higher.

The only person in Australia (other than you) who believes the afl got 50 million extra for the giants and suns is the boss of the suns

they are spending 55 million pa on them and it keeps going up.

Have they really though? They may have lost money but has their revenue increased since they put a team in there and if so, by how much?
He means they spent 200 million in the area and still ranked last out of all sports in the area

Just to remind you how small the population of Perth really is to nsw and why it’s not so important for the game as you make out
I’m not getting the link. Are you saying regional nsw isnt important as it’s only the same size as Perth?

I think the 200 million was just on junior spending. They have spent way more than that on gws. It’s closer to 500 million on them
