Metallica are touring next year. They are playing in government funded stadiums. Fans from across Australia will attend these concerts injecting millions into the respective state's economies.

Are they funding the operations of the team, or infrastructure? Because the radio guy was suggesting that Vlandys asked for direct funding of the operations of a team. Govts pay for infrastructure because they get an asset they own. They don't directly fund the operations of professional sports teams.

Also, why is it that all the people who hate the afl want to copy the afl? I thought we were number 1 sport? Why would we need to stoop to their level?

Which govt funds an afl team?

We've got a PNG side that needs to be fully funded by a govt, and now he was trying to get this side funded by a govt. It's a shitshow and makes the sport look 2nd rate and unable to attract investment from corporates/wealthy individuals.

But that's his job, he should go after as much as he can get. WA are capable of pushing back if they want. It's not Vlandy's job to negotiate on behalf of the WA Government.

AFL get plenty of investment that benefits them directly and that's what I'm talking about. They aren't afraid to ask for it either. In their case their outlandish requests that eventually get negotiated down are not played out in the media which is the only thing wrong here.
