the problem with Joel is that yesterday and last week he never played fullback, he was five-eight against Wests and played left centre yesterday and from what I saw had relatively quiet games on both occasions, in fact I'd go as far as saying there's been quiet all season and his teammates such as Inu, Hayne, Williams and Parmatangi have stolen the limelight in the backs.

I don't think it's neccesary to drop Wade just yet, I think he's still got too much to offer.

I cant believe people on here are bagging Mckinnon. He has been great for us this season and is one our best this year. I agree he had a barry on Sunday but geez come on lets look at the big picture.

As for Peto. The bloke my not have all the skills but geez his go a heart like a lion and has a damn go. I'm happy for him to stay where he is.

Look, heart is great, but really... Petersen shouldn't be in the first grade side at the expense of some of the young talent we have, or even Luke Burt.

I don't believe for a second Peto is a better option than Burt at this point in time. Sideshow gives me the jitters whenever he gets near the ball - and if you're talking heart, Burty has just as much, but with more skill.

Whether both of them should be overtaken by Hayne is another matter entirely... ;-) (I would say 'yes, they should')

It's strange people are seeing a McKinnon/Reddy selection question, when Reddy has been playing in the centres the past few weeks? I know the program lists him in the #1, but at the games he's been playing centres. Not a bad move considering we may need to cover Tahu's spot during rep season if Ben Smith is still out...

But if they were promoting people to positions for this week's game, then your choice for fullback is more likely McKinnon v Burt, wing is Petersen v Williams, and centres would be Tahu v Reddy (Inu didn't play on the weekend).

I reckon they'll leave the outside backs how they are, unless Tahu is injured on Friday or can't back up.

I think our bigger problem are the forwards - apart from Moi Moi, Morrison and Riddell, none of them have aggression and none go forward.

Tsoulos was, but the poor bugger's injured.

If you want agression have Zeb Taia, Weller Hauraki and Fuifui Moimoi coming off the bench

Those 3 would make Satan crap his pants in fear

I was thinking that Wade, this year, had appeared to get those errors out of his game, but the last couple of weeks they seemt o be creeping back in.

Totally with you Fishy. I thought the same thing.

However, my biggest disappointment with McKinnon was actually the Panthers match. When he made a bust upfield in the second half, he had 3 umarked players inside him - but he didn't even look, almost like he had no intention of passing. I couldn't believe it !!

His ball handling and work under the high ball wasn't good but hardly poor. The break he made to almost put Delaney away wasn't. Nor was some of his defense. ;-)

failed to mention, running himself out in the first half after taking the kick virtually in the middle of the park.

We have a few players that can do that. He made mistakes yes but he kept trying to make up for them rather than go into a shell. None of the fullbacks in the lower grades are putting enough pressure on him to be dislodged and as stated in todays Telegraph Wade was until Sunday statistically the best fullback in the competition. Hayne and Reddy have the talent but neither are doing enough to warrant their selection at the moment especially when neither are playing fullback.

I agree with you there, I don't want to replace him for the basic reason you just mentioned, however he's over all game except for a few good things was poor by his standard, I'm expecting him to have a big one on Saturday, mom performance infact to make up for it.

Bowen omission slammed
By Josh Massoud
May 2, 2006

THE father of Kangaroo discard Matt Bowen has slammed Karmichael Hunt's selection as a "kick in the backside" and a "smack in the face".

After famously cheering his son's golden-point intercept in the Origin opener last year, Richard Bowen was last night livid when told his son had been overlooked in favour of the untried 19-year-old.

"That's sad, sad, sad ... very sad," Bowen Sr told The Daily Telegraph from his remote Hope Vale property in Far North Queensland.

"I'm very upset. I don't think Matty has been given a fair go.

"I think it's a smack in the face. Someone must have very bitter feelings against Matty from somewhere down the track.

"Who would have thought Karmichael Hunt was going to be picked? He was a Kiwi last month."

Bowen Sr's doubts over Hunt's credentials were yesterday backed by a Daily Telegraph investigation into the 2006 form of the NRL's best fullbacks.

Of 18 statistical categories used to measure their game, Hunt did not top one.

According to NRL Stats, Parramatta's Wade McKinnon rated No.1 over the first eight weeks.

But Bowen - widely tipped to build on his solitary Test appearance in the event of Anthony Minichiello being unavailable - headed five categories including try assists and line-break assists.

"He can dodge and weave out of the blocks. He's a one in a million," Bowen Sr said.

"I never heard about Karmichael Hunt in the squad. There was Matty and Minichiello ... it's a kick in the backside really."

To make matters worse, the incumbent Queensland fullback had already made plans to fly his dad to Brisbane for the first time since last year's Origin.

"He has been looking forward to this since he was a kid. He said, 'I'm going to be like Allan Langer' and now his dream is shattered,"

Bowen Sr said. "He will be cut up. He will be bitter."

Mckinnon is the best fullback in the nrl...
