I will watch this week with interest as the introduction of this new xxxx gold cup kicking off this weekend, combined with the fact that the WA Refs are suppling all refs for the Bundy Cup matches here in WA will be stretching these very limited rescources even further.

I believe that the WARL dont want it to be referred to as Third Grade, this is what it is being referred to on the Senior Fixtures

Ahh. I noticed it on the fixtures, though had no idea what it was.

Any reason they don't want it viewed as 3rd grade?

I think we've all openly acknowledge the game needs referee's

It doesn't excuse the fact that there is a lack of integrity within the system, and that this lack of integrity, or perceived injustice (in the case of last weekends matches) should be avoided through proper management of the referee department.

No referee aligned to a club should ever adjudicate a match involving its team. Surely there is enough referee's within the WARL to prevent this from occurring. A stronger marketing campaign to attract referee's might also be useful. Unless individuals in the public seek out the WARL webpage, searching specifically for umpire development (which, from memory, isn't actually a link on the WARL webpage); there's no chance of learning more about it.

The reality is, the developmental structures of rugby league in perth - in both a coaching and referee'ing sense are lackluster.

I recall contacting the WARL over a year ago in relation to going through the coaching structure (Level 1 onwards); only to wait 6 months for a response. They apologised, though, it doesn't change the fact that most people would be disinterested following such a laboured reaction.

I've worked in numerous sporting codes; though primarily within WAFL club administrations - and the sheer focus this code has on publicising its developmental structures in coaching, refereeing, volunteers, and administrators is magnificent. It installs great confidence in those interested, and has VERY readily available information for ALL constituents of the code - be it parents, children, players, or professionals.

It is a serious detrimental aspect of the rugby league code in Perth at the moment.

You may see this as negative - but it isn't - I'm only pointing out the reality of the scenario, and measures which NEED improvement.
i reckon youd make a good referee

I'm guessing the WARL don't like making other grades sound inferior to First Grade. For years, Reserve Grade has been called Premier Grade, so now there's also XXXX Gold Cup which -to those not in WA League circles- sounds like it could be a top grade competition.

Centrals beat Joondalup 46 to 18 in a very spirited performnce by Central as they had a player sent off in the 15th minute of the second half.Central lead 20 to 18 at half time. After the send off the Bulldogs seemed to grow another leg and did not let the dissmisal get to them. They can now look forward to next week against South Perth.

Centrals actually won 50-18.
They also won Ressies 26-20, and the Ladies 10-0.
I think they also won the other Ressies game against Willagee, but I wasn't watching so I can't confirm.

I believe Fremantle beat South Perth in First-Grade.

Centrals were beat by South Pert 30 to 24.Why the trainer was on the field in the second half giving orders is well beyond me,he would have been on the field for at least 2 minutes giving instructions and shortly after they scored a try.How the officials misssed it well lets just say I am dissulioned. After talking to an official at the end off the game he told me that all he could do is report it at the referees meeting.
Beleive me this is not sour grapes but a supporter that is just so frustrated.Let the players play the game and the refs just do there job.

Great point Albert the problem is South Perth run the WARL and it appears they can do what ever they want. So any effort Centrals put in to find out why this was allowed to happen will only fall on deaf ears as the WARL will not take any action.

joondalup have been in the same situation this year with dud call's mainly from touch judge's any complaints just fall on deaf ear's and looks like sour grape's...i guess 1 way 2 avoid this is 2 try and not let the game get in the officials hand's!

The fact is the comments are very true and I can give a 100 examples to support this but do not need to. 1 easy one is the State side 13 out 20 from one club what a lot of rubbish. South Perth have 2 Directors of the WARL at the club and the certainly get what ever they want and have done for years .This is a common fact of life in WA.
