Seriously for a moderator get over youself. I said that the trial reports are the usual garbage we get for the club every year. I would love to read a report from someone who watched the game. How the hell is that having a whinge.

I don't know what me being a moderator has anything to do with this argemenent but in saying that do you not think that the report coming from the official website came from someone who DIDN'T watch the game, because I'm pretty sure Liz anderson would of been there watching the3 game.

I am a realest & aint gonna carry on like we are gonna be top 8 material. The club & your mates have set us up for this crap. I realise we are in for a long long year. We have no dominant halfs. Our only genuine classy hooker is still a little under weight & a little to green for week in week out 1st grade
.

my mates??? :?

oh! I see you're still bitter about Fitzgerald leaving I see, is that what this is all about???..guess what? i've been saying all along that we won't be making the 8 it doesn't have to take an idiot to tell me that and the reason why, but anyway..you obviously can't get over it [/QUOTE]

Our forwards are a genuine winning pack but our backline does not have the class. Throw ontop of that our genuine star not having a proper pre season it all spells for a tough year.

Hey if kearney can do something with this bunch then the guy deserves coach of the year if he doesnt then he doesnt. He is in a win win situation.

You of all people know the pr clubs spin to supportwers hence why i would love a Fkn independent report from someone who actually watched the game

just on the apparent spin, as you put it, I read a NZ article against the official websites report and there isn't a great deal of difference, I hope it didn't disappoint you? but never mind I'm sure you'll have plenty in store this year, so save your best till later ;-)

Sorry Boxy ;-) You're not stupid you're a switched on fella

In all seriousness I cannot comment as I've not seen the match. As I said trial form means nothing. It was only a few years ago (08?) when we won all our 3 trials under quality opposition but struggled in the regular season. We could lose 40 nil next week and 60 nil the week after, and while that doesn't sound like a good sign, it means nothing at the end of it. I would be pretty disappointed in Kearney as a coach if he was trying to fire the boys up for a meaningless match or blasting them for their efforts on today whatever the score, so let's cut some slack.

Yeah :) Don't worry mate, I was all jest hehe. (although I am a bit stupid! :))

I agree with you whole-heartedly. The problem is exactly as you say; if we do well in the trials or do badly it can have differing effects on the team. The only thing one can take from the trials is the way it affects the players mentally I think, I mean no-one likes being beaten 40-nil but if you do better in the regular season it's an example of mental toughness, and vice-versa, etc.

NRL: Warriors wings smoke Eels

By Michael Burgess 5:30 AM Sunday Feb 13, 2011
Warriors 24
Eels 4

Manu Vatuvei looked ready to inflict himself on more NRL defenders when he scored a try and looked fit and fast in the Warriors' pre-season hit-out against Stephen Kearney's Parramatta Eels.
Just like the city's famous geysers, the action yesterday came in fits and starts but it was the Warriors wingers - Vatuvei and speedy youngster Glen Fisiiahi - who burst into prominence.
Coach Ivan Cleary was particularly impressed with Vatuvei, having his first game back after months out with injury, who was probably the outstanding player until he left the field after 55 minutes.
"It was probably the best first game I have seen him have," said Cleary. "It is probably the lightest he has been at this stage [of a season]. I'm just glad he's on our team."
In the opening minutes of the second half, Fisiiahi brought the crowd to their feet, dotting down near the posts after beating three defenders with a twisting 50m run.
As the sun went down, the action hotted up, with the Warriors producing some of the ad lib football they are famous for. Kevin Locke, who looked sharp throughout, sparked an attack from his own tryline with a piece of elusive magic.

Five tackles and 100m later, Fisiiahi touched down for the try of the match.
"He's certainly a talent," said Cleary of Fisiiahi, "and he is doing everything he can to force his way into the NRL team."
There were flashes of brilliance on a sweltering afternoon, mostly from the Warriors who produced the more cohesive display, eventually sprinting away after a tight first half.
Coaches attach limited importance to trial matches but Cleary came away happy, as his side dominated the encounter from the start.
He praised his side's patience and ball control on attack, and goal line commitment on defence, with the only negative being a number of penalties conceded as they struggled with some new refereeing interpretations.
"There are a few things we need to fix up," said Cleary, "but all in all, it was a pretty good day."
The Warriors scored five tries to one, with the Sydneysiders failing to capitalise on the few scoring opportunities they created.
A relaxed Kearney said his side's effort was "encouraging", adding that the result has no significance ahead of the first round NRL clash on March 12.
Like any pre-season encounter, it was a little disorganised at times - the sight of big prop Russell Packer putting in a fifth tackle chip kick is not something that Cleary will want to see again soon - but both teams will benefit from the hit-out in the heat.
Cleary choose to rest regulars Brett Seymour, James Maloney, Lance Hohaia and Simon Mannering, while there was also no place for new buys Feleti Mateo and Shaun Berrigan - and also meaning the Warriors backline structure in particular is still not known.
The Warriors opened the scoring through Vatuvei - who else? - in the 11th minute from a simple overlap after some slick passing on the left hand edge.
Parramatta lock Shane Shackleton was then held up over the line before Eel-turned-Warrior Krisnan Inu produced a gravity-defying leap to reel in an Issac John bomb and score near the right touchline.
The Sydney side finally got on the board in the 35th minute, with second-rower Taniela Lasalo forcing his way over after Jeff Robson had split the marker defence.
For the Eels, Paul Whatuira - one of the few Kiwis to win NRL rings with two different teams - looked as fit and tough as ever on his return to the Southern Hemisphere.
Kearney also handed Eels debuts to former Bronco Casey McGuire and firebrand centre Chris Walker.
The Warriors have two more trial matches before their first round clash against Parramatta at Eden Park next month.
Warriors 24 (M. Vatuvei, K. Inu, G. Fisiiahi (2), L. Brown tries; Inu 2 goals), Eels 4 (T. Lasalo try). Halftime: 8-4

Warriors hit jackpot in Roto-Vegas clash

IN the dress rehearsal of their 2011 season-opening clash against Parramatta, the Warriors drew first blood yesterday, beating the Eels 24-4 in a preseason friendly in front of close to 9000 fans at Rotorua's International Stadium.
The two sides will meet in round one at Eden Park in Auckland on March 12 and if yesterday's trial match was anything to go by, Warriors fans would be well advised to book their tickets now.
Of course, while it might feel good to land the first blow, the reality is that trial games are just that – an opportunity to try combinations and different game plans. Winning, for once at least, is secondary.
Even so, for the Warriors this was a performance to be fairly happy with.
In a one-sided first half, the hosts ran in tries to Manu Vatuvei and new recruit Krisnan Inu before the Eels manage to get across the line, with Taniela Lasalo bashing his way over eight minutes before the break.
Leading 8-4, the Warriors picked upped their intensity a notch in the second half and three further tries – two of them to electric young wing Glen Fisiiahi – ensured a comfortable victory, much to the delight of the Rotorua locals.
"There are a lot of good things we can take out of this game," a satisfied Warriors coach Ivan Cleary said.
"I thought we were pretty patient, ball control was a lot better than last week but there are a few things we can fix up. All in all, it was a good game.
"We've certainly got some competition for places, which is good.
"In the last two weeks I've actually learnt a lot about where we are at and what we need to concentrate on in the next few weeks."
In the back of Cleary's mind is his side's date in mid March with the Eels when competition points are up for grabs.
But despite the fact the Stephen Kearney-coached Eels would have been using yesterday's trial to scope out their rivals for weaknesses, the Warriors coach said he managed to pick up a few titbits of his own.
"Actually, that [thinking about round one] had no bearing at all on what we did today but you probably do learn a little bit about what they've worked on," he said.
"With Steve coming in as the new coach there was always going to be some changes there.
"It will also be a completely different looking two teams that run out on to Eden Park."
With just under a month to go before the season proper begins, Cleary said he had plenty of time left to decide on his starting side for the Eden Park fixture.
Twenty-year-old Fisiiahi – who last week against the Knights in Greymouth also scored a double – is one player the coach conceded was doing everything he could to push his case for the senior side.

"Glen's certainly a talent and he's doing everything he can to play in the NRL," he said. "He's been good but he's still pretty green. But he certainly gets you excited when he gets the ball in space."
Speaking of wingers, yesterday's hit-out also doubled as a return to the field for Warriors cult-hero Manu "The Beast" Vatuvei, who broke his right arm during the Kiwis' Four Nations campaign last year.
A sleek-looking Vatuvei played for the opening 54 minutes before limping somewhat gingerly from the field.
He later dismissed concerns of a possible hip injury but revealed he was in the shape of his career and was 3kg lighter than his regular weight of 112kg – something sure to strike fear into the hearts of the other 15 NRL sides.
"This is the fittest I've been this early in the season. It was a real goal of mine to come back this year in good shape," he said.
Cleary, not one prone to exaggeration, said he was rapt with the performance of his superstar.
"I thought Manu was really good, actually. That was probably the best first game I have seen him have.
"He's had a pretty good preseason and he's in pretty good shape so I'm glad he's on our team at the moment.
"This is probably the lightest he's been at this stage of the year so hats off to him.
"It's tough for him at the best of times and he's just coming back from a broken arm where he hasn't been mobile for a while. It just shows how much he's matured."
The Warriors will head to Whangarei next weekend where they take on Queensland Cup side Burleigh.
Cleary said he hoped for a more disciplined effort from his side after they gave away a raft of penalties.
Yesterday's trial also doubled as the Parramatta debut for playmaker Brad Murray.
The former Roosters youngster, who has been implicated in the NRL's betting scandal after he was filmed on CCTV placing a bet on last season's controversial match between the Cowboys and Bulldogs in round 24, came on midway through the second half and played until the end.

Kearney's smoked Eels are still a work in progress

074385-107890487tm043_nrl_trial_wa.jpg

  • WARRIORS 24 - EELS 4

PARRAMATTA'S Steve Kearney era got off to a shaky start against the New Zealand Warriors at Rotorua's International Stadium.

And it was a former Eel in Krisnan Inu who helped get the ball rolling for the Warriors, scoring a first-half try as the home team went to the break with an 8-4 lead.
Kearney clearly has much work to do before the season kicks off next month.
Three second-half tries to the home team blew out the final score, but the Warriors were more advanced than the Eels after playing a trial last week against the Newcastle Knights in Greymouth.
Second rower Taniera Lasalo scored the Eels' lone try, but stand-in captain Luke Burt was proud of the effort put in by his young team-mates. He said it was an important hit-out for a club rebuilding after Daniel Anderson was axed as coach at the end of last season.

"It was good finally get out there after a long, hard pre-season, it was excellent to have a hit out like that," Burt said.
"Unfortunately we didn't get result but there were good signs.
"Our defence in the first half was very strong and a lot of the young fellas played very well.
"The boys in the middle performed at a high level for their first game of the year.
"I think we have a little fine-tuning to do with our attack, but overall we can take a lot out of it."
Warriors rookie Glen Fisiiahi impressed with a brace of tries in the second half, while Lewis Brown also scored to give Ivan Cleary's side an encouraging 20-point win.
The Warriors were without playmaker James Maloney, who missed the match because of illness, with Isaac John called in as a late replacement to partner former Junior Warriors captain Elijah Taylor in the halves.
It was John's first run of the season after recovering from knee surgery.
Winger Vatuvei, centre Jerome Ropati, hooker Aaron Heremaia and props Sam Rapira, Ben Matulino and Russell Packer were also back on deck after missing last Saturday's 22-all draw with Newcastle.
Rapira and his brother Steve played together in a Warriors side for the first time. The previous time they played together was for the Junior Kiwis in 2005.

i think at the end of the day we have to accept that SK has used teh oldest trick in the book - something he picked up from past parra coaches - go into the game with no gameplan and then surprise em in a few weeks time (thats my story and i'm sticking to it!)

well you're carrying like you've actually watched the game..

you are the perenial whinger spartan, any moron would tell you that we're in for a tough season so i suggest if it gets too hot you take up lawn bowls this year because chances are it aint going to get much better.
Geez, overreaction much? All Spartan said was that the official trial report would just have all the usual cliches you get after a loss. No different to how everyone here regularly bemoaned Hagan's famous line about not being far from where we want to be... but yeah, let's put sh*t on one poster because we're too precious/paranoid about any realism/criticism bursting our personal 2011 bubble.
Absolutely agree with you Boxhead....

but you were the one who last week after watching the Warriors first trial game commented on the fact that based on their performances Mateo and Inu haven't improved at all, and their 'hardest off season in a long time' was just a myth, and based on that trial things didn't look good for the Warriors this season.
Ouch, Boxhead found to not practice what he preaches! I'm sure boxy is a great kid (and very enthusiastic about the Eels), but like others needs to settle down imo about how he reacts to opinions different from his own.

It's like some people must want this place to just be a mirror of their own/the dominant opinion (whatever that happens to be at the time), rather than a place where all Eels fans are free to discuss and debate their different opinions, free of personal attacks and overreactions as a result of doing so? :sarcasm:
