More like zimmer framing for the doors.

I'd piss Bennett off now if I was in charge, but the nRL are and they're all about the $$$$.

Rick Stone straight back in as of today, offer releases to anyone who wants them (tap Gidley on the shoulder, move Mullen on) and start rebuilding your club. Newie is the BEST junior and A-Grade comp in the land, bar none. Unqualified management and cronyism have stunted your growth since day dot. Change it. There has to be one local player a year capable of becoming a regular NRL player of quality. Surely!

Bring in someone who knows how to develop and build around key players to assist Stone, as the NRL will provide capital to make sure you are competitive in every area before stepping back.

Its a new day for Newcastle. I hope the opportunity to clean out and start again, re engage the community and start moving forward again is ceased.

Its important for Rugby League. I believe you'll look back on today, as the day Newcastle finally modernised.

Bahahaha! You're a funny man.

Get in Stone, get in Mamo. If Bennett targets Mamo, throw everything at the kid. Wouldn't be surprised if BJ decides to try and get out of his contract given Bennett was the reason he resigned and he's quite replaceable; they have three Mata'utias to choose from. Secure the promising talent such as Tapine. What I think was the Dragon's biggest issue was they never acted swiftly to secure players and I hope the club doesn't do the same this time.

This isn't too much of a big deal, it may be a blessing if anything. I'm disappointed given Bennett's record and the way he was able to get the team to lift when needed last year, but his style is outdated and has just held us back. More disappointed that he decided to throw in the towel when the team is dealing with so many issues, it to me removes the shine from his name.

That was very very funny. He seems like a difficult person to like in and outside of footy.

I actually think Bennett might retire. Realizing he's past the modern game.

I'd be happy for Wayne to leave effective immediately. Having said that, he could turn out being one of the only coaches to go against the norm and have the players put in for the rest of the year, even though the coach is leaving. The players do appear to like and respect him and that could be the difference.

Like others have said, if Boyd leaves, then I'd love to see Gagai at fullback. He's got a great ability to beat a player one on one and he is deceptively strong. He's also able to set up support players (set your mind back to the start of last year and his and Uates combination).

Some people are saying that Leilua wouldn't be a big loss if he left. These people need to look at the big picture and not be short sighted. True his form is down atm, but earlier he was playing like a player that wasn't far off representing NSW. Form is temporary, but class is permanent.

I feel that Bennett's time with us has really taken away from his aura. His 3 years here have proven to be a real waste of time. I say spear him now, the future begins today.

Can we afford to pay 2 head coaches at once though?

I think this is probably the biggest factor as to why he won't get punted straight away

Rick Stone should get another shot a Head Coach...

In the 2 years he had control, he dealt with a lot off the field and still had the team performing; 2010-Danny Wicks days, 3 tight losses from the finals. 2011-lost his job to Wango, he got a shitty team into 8th spot.

He would not have lost his job had Wayne not come, and i think he deserves another shot...

(Plus, he'd bring back the old "this teams got no chance" feel that we all know and love)

I agree that he needs to be shown the door as soon as possible. Why waste the rest of the season waiting to start rebuilding?

The concerning part is that listening to Midley they don't seem to be in any rush to decide on a new coach. Can't start rebuilding if we don't know who the head coach is going to be.

How in hell does Gidley even get into a position of such power? Being a average to good football player in no way qualifies him to run a football club.

It's mickey mouse, chook raffle level management like that that have put us in this position.

I know it's off topic but Matt Gidley was a great footballer. Set up more tries than any centre that I've seen.

The thought had recently crossed my mind that if our previous management hadn't had put us into such a bad position to begin with we wouldn't have been so desperate to let Tinkler take over and have all this drama

I'm seriously starting to question this signing of Tariq Sims. He must be a complete dumbarse to have been convinced to come to the club.

Can't agree more. Class footballer and person. No idea if he can administrate his way out of a wet paper bag.

WESTS and the NRL will dot every I and cross every T and that is the facts as they stand. Whether Bennett got tired of it and he is saving face we will never know. it is possible the new board members have decided they do not want him regardless of Smith's opinion. They may want a completely clean slate and to reconnect with the city by dissolving the Tinkler legacy once and for all.

Has been my concern about the NRL all the way along, we are just there to make up the numbers, nothing more.

It's obvious. The NRL will boast about parity and how "even" the competition is, but over the next two decades we're only going to see the NRL trophy shared around between Melbourne, Manly, the Roosters, the Bulldogs and the Broncos (got to keep Qld happy some way or another or else they'll grumble about the NRL being the NSWRL).

Newcastle? We're just making up the numbers in the eyes of the NRL...

I do enjoy a good conspiracy...

Why these teams in particular?? Manly and Melbourne are just in a good patch, the rest are as hot and cold as everyone else.

And if youre suggesting the NRL would rig it, i imagine the biggest benefit would come from premierships to teams like Canberra/NZ/Penrith/Parra/NQ. It would only take 1 title win to set off an hysteria in those area and ignite huge fanbases that just want a glimmer of hope.

Like i said, I love a conspiracy as much as the next person, but there is a fine line between actually being the victim and only being able to see a situation from your own perspective...
