Not quite right there Popper about Union.
News had a multipronged attack & strategy in aquiring content for Foxtel & other world cable TV platforms.
What they couldn't aquire they created.
SU 12's was going to happen regardless.

Agree or disagree, for rugby league, both parties were wrong. An incredible waste of money that was sprinkled around a few players, clubs & tournaments that could have been invested in many areas of League & provided a platform for years of substantial growth.

I couldn't agree more Reefy...

I hated the SL/ARL war. BUT if anything I sided with the ARL on this, because Rupet wasn't given the rights to the footy for his pay TV, Optus got it, so he did a packer(cricket) and bought 10 teams. It's unfortunate that a MANLY official was incharge of the ARL at the time, but Artherson stuffed up BIG TIME and the rest of the mess is history now!!

I actually hate Rupet more than Artho for the mess, and I didn't watch a game in 97, not even the "Claytons GF" that was STUPID LEAGUE... If Cronulla were still running around in SL, I wouldn't be following them now, I'd be fishing or something, or maybe even following Newcastle, cause thats where I live now!!

great sullfyfan, heres where u tell us HOW??? how is the future bright??? LOL :D

We're financially pretty stable and will have a great side in a couple of years.

Anyway, stop trolling.

not after ando strips you of your club!

The Sharks have a pretty poor team and paying close to 800,000 per year for 2 players (Kimmorley and Vagana) has left the rest of the team pretty week.

You'd be lucky to even be with a shot of making 8th spot come finals time!

You will realise this after Manly hand you your 3rd loss from 3 games!

Manly haven't beaten us a Toyata Park(or whoever is paying to call it what ever this year) since 1986... Good luck mate ;-) 8)

Aside from a poll thread, they havent had a post since SUNDAY

Explains a little doesnt it?
 Explains the fact we actually still have our 'own official forum' that we post in and on the odd occasion we come in here to post as well....what's your point?

All 1955 of your 'occasional' ones chileman... how many you have at Manly 80,000 :p

EDIT: and this is only page three I'm on... sorry if my posts all run on, but I need to catch up after just 1 day. It seems there still is a bit of passion between the Clubs ;-) :D

Also - didn't we stop our losing streak the other year in the second half against Manly ??

We won our first game of 2003 agianst Manly. :D

Look you Manly kids can come in here and have a dig at our club for joining Super League all you want. It doesn't worry me one iota.

It just shows your reluctance to move forwards and get on with it.

What good is it going to do you or your pathetic club to sit here pissing and moaning about Super League, and then beat your own chests about how loyal Arko and Bozo and Manly were?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

So get over it, and move on. Its ancient history.

You obviously know nothing about loyalty, you support a whore of a club who has done NOTHING since it's birth, and will go with NOTHING to it's death!

So, loyalty is to support a Club that for decades just bought out all talent from every club they could, manoeuvred their Club heavies into positions in the ARL that actually ran the game and f**k everyone else.

Someone stands up to that "Hitler" regime and starts another comp and you piss on the people that leave Hitler’s cause, because your control of those clubs and the game is now GONE...

You cheated in the 1978 GF, you payed off the ref to win it, and you changed the rules the year before... DIE MANLY DIE, FFS!!

I watched one game in 97, the ARL GF (had no choice other than to stand out side and ignore it)... Ask me how high I jumped when Albert cut through for the winner!! Not because my team won, because I'm a Sharkies boy, but because Manly didn't... :D :D

Despite the nitty-gritty, Blacktip. I believe League would be much better positioned these days if it had accepted the money and the `vision' and those in power had not declared war on the offer. Appropriate negotiation could've given League a much better future. Instead, League still has localised tribal warfare while Rugby is on a surge and part of the `big picture' in world sport. Failure to provide some free to air TV coverage could be their downfall though. Could nullify the impetus they received from the World Cup.

Popper, I think that it was handled very badly on all sides also. In hindsight, as pissed off as I was at the time, I realise now that we probably wouldn't be here today if not for SL's money. We were struggling financially, but not in other areas where we were and are still very strong, and that’s why Rupert wanted us.

I agree that the ARL should have pulled their heads out of their MANLY butts at the time and come to some sort of an agreement. But they just didn't want to let go and the war was the result. Rupert had the money and was desperate for something to attract people to Foxtel. I would say that the Rugby League is still the major factor to sell pay TV to people in NSW and Queensland, and maybe even NZ.

The reason that Rugby will never take over League is because it is so damn boring to watch... I loath it, I hardly watch a game during the World Cup and only flicked over during adds to see bits and pieces. Who won it btw? Free to air needs ratings to make money, and in all honesty, it is a very dull and boring game most of the time...

Exactly, Aries. League is the much more attractive game, but Union gets the kudos. Why? All comes down to the officials. Rugby had Rupert's money and a smart cookie like O'Neill running the show. League had Rupert's and Kerry's money and a group of infighting, self-seeking blockheads setting the agenda.
The sooner League rids the clubs of power and gets a strong independent governing body, the better of League will be.
Rugby League IS `The Greatest Game of All' constantly marred by flawed management.
P.S. Now that O'Neill has been shown the door I can see Rugby coming back to earth. Mistake 1 - not showing the Super 12 on Free to air TV. Lots of people are unhappy about that.

Before you go Quimby. When was the last time you won at Shark Park? 1986?? Gee that seems like a long time ago. You were just a twinkle in your dad's eye then weren't you? Oh, one more question. What is your excuse going to be on Sunday morning?

When was the last time you won a premiership?

Sunday morning i will be going to Broncos v Tigers game to support rugby league!

Don't come around here saying that you are some sort of Rugby League supporter just cause you are going to see the Bronco's belt the Tigers. Are you coming to Shark Park too? You live in Cambelltown don't you? A silvertail in the West? I am going to see the Dogs V Roosters game tomorrow night and the Sharks game Saturday night. Does that make me a bigger RL supporter than you? No.

BTW, we have never won a premiership Quimby. We haven't won one in our 37 years in the comp. Manly took 25 years to win their first one, so what? I garauntee you we get our first one before you get your next one!

Let me state from the start i am a manly fan, and have been my whole life. Furthermore my brother is a sharks fan.
All this talk about scum etc is a bit too full on for me (lets not even talk about the fact that sully is gay - who gives a !)
Sure i do not liek the sharks when they play manly - and i do not expect teams to like manly but lets try put it all into perspective.
Manly did not bribe anyone for the 78 grabd final. They got a lucky break - they have had plenty against them since. It is th nature of the game, it does tend to even out (think 95 grand final v dogs when there was a 7 tackel try and a try off a forward pass)
That is part of the game i really enjoy - it frustrates but it also exciting.
As for weekend lets hope for a good game, Sure i want manly to win at shark park, if nothing else to get some braging rights over my brother in a season , that realistically both teams are not going to be pushing for the top 4 (may be next year?)
If manly lose i will be disappointed, but really that is life. There are other things in the world to call scum etc besides a game of league...
just my thoughts...

Well said mate, and good luck on Saturday.

Can you post that over in the Dragons forum? 'Scum' seems to be the only word they know...

Why would anyone be worried about coming in here and either saying congrats aor commiserations,it is after all a faceless forum. Some of you really need to get out as there is more to life than 4 walls and a keypad. Here is a tip if you don't have a partner take the job in hand as it really eases tension.
