Is there any historical connection between the Dolphins and Sunshine Coast ?

It’s a longer distance than I thought
‘The’ lol
reality is unless Sunshine Coast council is paying them they aren’t going to be playing there, they’ve already cut the proposed two games a year down to one. The falcons chose to stay with melbourne Rather than partnering with ‘the ‘.

Because these feeder clubs never jump ship to other teams ..lol..

More games at Kayo then in the meantime

No..we f**king hate redcliffe.. not sure why everyone thinks sunny coast is a feeder for them or want them playing out of here like it's a sunny coast team
yep the people who think Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast is just one big continuous area who will all band together and support the same team don't know shit.

I said on here years ago that even Moreton Bay Regional council is just an arbitrary line drawn around a bunch of suburbs that have no connection to one another. Luckily Dolphins brand is strong enough to gain support from all over SEQLD...

this argument is stupid

what the qrl club redcliffe dolphins represents is not what the nrl club respresents

I’m leaning towards north Brisbane dolphins because it will tick off the broncos and Brisbane has better commercial value than Moreton bay or sunshine state

“We’ve got strong ties with the region already.

“We’re playing a game there (against the Eels in June), we have player pathways and academies there, we have links with club partners there and a link with UniSC.”

The Dolphins are the major sponsor of the Sunshine Coast Junior Rugby League.

As someone that grew up on the Coast, and came through Junior RL up there, there was zero, ZERO connection or goodwill between the two regions. It may have changed somewhat over the period I’ve been away, but I do spend time up there for QRL games and there’s still the same dislike from the locals I have beers with towards the Dolphins. I laughed at the idea when they were fighting for the 17th license.

But to Redcliffe’s credit, they are trying to build the connections, and do have a chance in landing it in the long term, it’s just not a. Organic one at all.

Whether it's right or wrong, the only reason people think it is because it was mentioned multiple times during their launch and the bid winning process that they represent Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast right up to Central QLD. This was mentioned by Abdo and the Dolphins quite a bit.

They are trying to differentiate them from the Redcliffe Dolphins, hence the name of the NRL team.

“Moreton Bay is the third-biggest council area in Australia and the fourth biggest is the Sunshine Coast - nearly 900,000 people live in that corridor before you get to Brisbane." - Dolphins CEO, Terry Reader explaining the Dolphins' NRL footprint

"Our Moreton Bay campus, which currently has more than 3,000 students across 60 degrees, is a hub for learning, teaching and research, and we expect closer ties with this major professional sporting team to bring mutual benefits.” - University of the Sunshine Coast Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Bartlett

“Redcliffe is no longer the name, they are quite deliberately calling themselves the Dolphins. This is about owning Brisbane and not just having a second Brisbane team, but owning the north as well.” - NRL CEO, Andrew Abdo

None of the changes the fact redcliffe is not sunshine Coast and in general sunny coast has no love or affinity with redcliffe.

As stated many previous times, including to thick afl fans like yourself, 'the' is not part of Dolphins official name.

Do us all a favour and go and watch a replay of the dorkers v cats or whatever afl shit floats your boat.

North Brisbane dolphins

potentially will get the biggest crowds at Suncorp with a decent run of form

Brisbane will have a new favourite team
Having chosen redcliffe that was what it should have been all along with all games at Suncorp. Smacks of appeasing Broncos by not calling them that and having them play in Brisbane only part time.
