No. Ch9 did very little but radio and west Australia actually had really strong build up, mainly focussed on souths who have become something of WA media darling due to playing games here. Lots of articles and discussion leading up to GF. In contrast there has been next to nothing on 4 nations. Yesterday in the Saturday west there was a 1/4 column piece 5 pages from back page previewing game alongside Gallen f**k up. No ko time, no where to watch it.

Ch9 just suck and never promote the fact they actually show RL in WA.

Just checked those Perth ratings for the England v Samoa game on FTA TV...

7,000....

Can't believe they didn't actually play the game there based on that sort of interest.

Would have sold out for sure, and maybe Adelaide would have sold out Adelaide Oval on the back of the 5,000 that tuned in as well...

Perth is just crying out for international RL.

When's the game in sydney? Oh yeh despite biggest ratings there isn't one. Something's just don't translate lol.

If you can't sell 20k tickets to the 230k poms who live in Perth plus rl fans from Australia and NZ then RL needs to forget about being a national game and go back to the sydney suburbs and stop pretending to be a major sport.

So why didn't the 230K Poms watch the game on TV?

I would have thought a casual fan is more likely to watch the game on TV than attend.

You should be concerned that these ratings are terrible instead of making up BS excuses...

Look, Perth is not a big market for league at the moment. They will probably get a team next expansion and hopefully they can interest a world cup team.
This is how you go about promoting league into Perth, not by whinging about TV veiwing figures that dont translate during summer months.

The NRL has finally woken up, you take the game to the fans. The fans are in Brisbane, NZ at this time of year. Not in Perth, not in Sydney where sitting by the pool is the major sport.

The 4 nations is off to a absolute cracker, not a media knocker in sight. That is how you know your winning.
Even buzz has gone missing in action, he is probably in the red block chanting like a lunatic with his back to the action.
You have to laugh at the crusty old fool, he only has a job because he lives in Australia.

If this bid is serious about getting in the NRL they should setup a NSW Cup team

They looked at it, it's too expensive and without having nrl reserves in a side they would not be competitive. We don't have pokie machines here to take the money from the poor to give to rl players!

Look, the dinosaurs in charge of the NRL, which is international rugby league, are small minded fools.
In a time of change, Obama has delivered, and rugby league is nothing but a backward pimple compared to the way America runs the world ,,,,,, and it's sports.

The NRL is like a slow moving slug compared to world-growth.
which is why every other code is thriving.

what happened to your praise of the allmighty dave smith?

the nrl is changing its structures to come into this century. its gone through 100 years of poor management, super league and rugby union trying to get its way and its still going alright.

20 years ago union would say, "rugby union is a game of amateurs run by professionals, league is a game of professionals run by amateurs" and thought RL dead during super league, especially with the amazing interest in australia for 1999 and 2003 world cups.

the game will be fine, RLIF and NRL are modernising and becoming somewhat relevant. hopefully the game will grow on the back of that.

Perth is a no brainer really. Nib stadium is perfect for league.
The TV time slots, perfect, new sponsors to the game, all good.
Perth and Brisbane first up, then Wellington and central QLD next.

In future we should have less teams in Sydney and more in QLD.
Brisbane already has a team, the Broncos. Ipswich should be next cab off the rank...Ipswich Jets, then Perth - Pirates.

Last year NRL broke the nib stadium attendance record. Will the 2015 return fixture see even more WA Rugby League fans pack out the ground?

Congratulations to this years WC Pirates SG Ball squad. Hopefully some future NRL players amongst this talented group.

After a gruelling opening training schedule, the 2015 West Coast Pirates SG Ball squad has been reduced to 26 players.
A high quality intra-squad trial match was played on Friday 12th December and all players were fighting to keep their spot in the squad. Coach Ryan Gundry said it was a “very tough decision” leaving some players out of the squad.
Congratulations to all players who have been selected in the final squad. To those that have missed out on this occasion, thank you for your hard work so far, don’t give up on your Rugby League dream, you can all hold your head high.

Perth favoured to field NRL team

The NRL has put expansion firmly back on the agenda, with Perth a favourite to be offered a side when a new TV rights deal is struck.

The current $1.2 billion broadcast agreement finishes at the end of the 2017 season, but the NRL has confirmed expansion talks for 2018 will start next year, with plans to invest more than $200 million in the game.

NRL officials were in Perth this week for discussions with State Government and local league representatives as the competition changed its name from the WARL to NRLWA.

NRLWA has already registered the West Coast Pirates as the name for its franchise bid.

Consortiums in Brisbane, Ipswich, Rockhampton and Wellington are also interested.

NRL head of football Todd Greenberg said talks on the future of the game would start early next year.

"We are going to pull it apart and look at the full footprint of the game," Greenberg said.

"We will go in with a very open mind. Realistically a new club would need 12-18 months to get up and running which is why the discussions will start next year.

"Markets across the country have a strong appetite for a team and Perth is no different. Numbers and engagements in Perth are growing year on year.

"Participation numbers show steady growth in WA, TV ratings continue to grow and we watch all those numbers with interest.

"It is good to see a great venue (nib Stadium) and there are a lot of people that love their rugby league so it augurs well for us in the future."

So thats the NT and WA that have taken on the new name. Wonder if other states inc NSW and Qland will follow?

Wow, they're really going all in on the NRL branding

I think they have seen what the AFL has done with its nationa branding across all levels of that code and it seems to work.

Also, this "fresh" start approach for the blueprint has come up several times now from multiple media outlets. Looks like there will be some growing pains if they make big and brave decisions particularly in sydney
