No I very much doubt it unless it was def part of growing the infrastructure ready for a NRL club. The downsides ie cost (upwards of $1mill a year) plus weakening of the NRLWA comp alongside the great difficulty in being competitive with NRl club aligned sides and pokie empire funded clubs would mean it would be a waste of time.

Much better that money got spent on our Jnr set up. the best kids are going into Pritaes SG ball side and being picked up from their by NRL clubs so we have a shop window for our talent. NSW cup adds nothing to the RL scene in WA imo.

What if it were a national second division instead of nsw cup?

An idea i have is that the arlc opens a tender process for a national second division as a vehicle for expansion. Could initially have 8 teams (3x h&a schedule) with a grant and cap in the millions instead of the thousands. Eventually they can decide to have P&R between the two divisions or dump everybody into conferences in a staged premiership expansion. Teams it could have

West coast
Central coast bears
PNG hunters- promoted from qld cup
Fiji
Central qld
South qld jets- side representing the ipswich-toowoomba corridor
Redcliffe dolphins- promoted from qld cup
NZ lions- side representing NZ except the auckland region (warriors)

This would be a much better home for isla d sides long term than atate competitions

We usually struggle for size against the Sydney clubs in SG ball so good to see some big kids coming through. In a year or two we should have a decent SG ball side if Union don't snaffle them.

Good news.

The NRL will make an announcement about Rugby League in Perth in 2016 on Wednesday at 9am AWST at nib Stadium, Perth.

Kangaroos Coach Mal Meninga, Kiwis Coach Stephen Kearney and Manly Sea Eagles player Martin Taupau will all attend the announcement.

It's believed the NRL will announce that Perth will host an "historic" rugby league test between Australia and New Zealand at the end of the NRL season. It's understood the match will be played at nib Stadium.

Fairfax Media reported NRL officials ruled out Perth as the venue for the mid-season test because of broadcast scheduling issues.

There will always be 8 teams not in the finals every year lol

haha I know.. I just feel like that's the kind of logic detractors/the NRL have at the moment.

We can't expand until every single team is successful / there's not enough depth, zzzzz

Perth will host its first ever Rugby League international in 2016 - a clash between Australia and New Zealand on October 15.
The nib Stadium Test match will be staged prior to the 2016 Four Nations Tournament in the UK and will be an important lead-in match for both teams.
New Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga, Kiwi counterpart Stephen Kearney and Manly's Kiwi international Martin Taupau were on hand to make the announcement at Perth's nib Stadium today, alongside WA Minister for Sport and Recreation Mia Davies.
In a significant year for Rugby League in Perth, the city will also host two NRL Telstra Premiership matches – the Round 13 match between South Sydney and Gold Coast Titans and the Round 19 match between Manly and the Warriors.
NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg said Perth was a fitting venue for the October Test for a number of reasons.
"We have seen some wonderful crowds in Perth in recent seasons and the city will again host two of our Premiership matches in 2016," Mr Greenberg said.
"So it stands to reason that Perth should also host the best that international rugby league can offer.
"It is clear that Perth has embraced our club games in recent years and we will see another two important Premiership matches in the city this year.
"The support that the game has received is a key reason we have decided to stage a Test match in Perth."
The October Test match will be supported by the WA State Government through Tourism WA and VenuesWest.
Sports Minister Mia Davies said the rivalry between the Australian and New Zealand teams is at an all-time high.
"West Australians have proven they have a strong appetite for Rugby League and the recent $95 million refurbishment of nib Stadium has delivered a venue that provides a world class sporting experience and enhances Perth’s reputation as a destination of choice for sporting excellence," Minister Davies said.
"The previous two NRL premiership fixtures played at nib Stadium between the Sydney Rabbitohs and the New Zealand Warriors saw sell-out crowds with the 2014 match breaking nib Stadium’s attendance record for a sporting event."

The NRL probably sees having rugby league games in Perth as expansion, even if Perth doesn't have its own NRL club.

Souffs v Gold Coast should let us know what the floor is for Perth crowd numbers.

I do respect them going beyond the Warriors for once though..
