Or the Bryson brothers, cory Paterson, Daniel holdsworth et al.

Sure we need a bigger Jnr base but we have the strongest one outside of the traditional RL States and it is growing every year.

Atleast we have one thing in common. Just because it opens another tv viewing spot whoopppeee, how about develop some players because if WA do get in all it'll have playing for them are imported NSW and QLD players not to mention former english super league players looking for a quick dollar. You may develop your 1st home grown NRL after your first 15 years in the competition like Melbourne did.

You dont just plant a team in perth and expect it to be stacked with locals, this new NRL side would be about developing interest, not capitalising on interest that already exists (as a Brisbane team would).

You cant expect interest in a sport that gets zero exposure and that is not a reasonable demand to make...

Successful expansion will not just be about dropping a team into Perth hopefully, It will need to be about increasing fundig to the WANRL, PRL and KRL, it will be working with the state govt to get a centre of excellence for RL, it will be working with the warl clubs to bring them up to the next level. Hopefully the new nrl will have learnt from Melbourne that you have to go much deeper with expansion than just setting up a nrl club if you want to increase participation and Jnr to first grade systems.

Silly question, but which perth are you from?

No club but at least we can all become manly fans lol.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and New Zealand Warriors are set to light up Western Australia with a blockbuster NRL Premiership match at Perth’s nib Stadium on Saturday 16 July.

In a ground breaking initiative, the Sea Eagles have partnered with the Warriors to play an annual match in Perth that will see the Clubs work collaboratively in promoting the fixture in Western Australia.

The game is sure to attract a strong crowd with both sides featuring plenty of state and international representatives. New Zealand representatives including Martin Taupau, Steve Matai, Lewis Brown, Peta Hiku (Manly), Shaun Johnson, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Issac Luke and Simon Mannering (Warriors) will be well received by the large contingent of Kiwi expatriates living in Western Australia.

Manly Warringah CEO Joe Kelly said that the match shapes up as one of the must see fixtures of 2016.

“It’s always a great contest between the Sea Eagles and Warriors. The high number of Kiwis playing for both Clubs adds to the occasion given the large expatriate community living in Perth. This promises to be a great match played in front of a huge crowd at Perth’s premier rectangular stadium,” Kelly said.

Kelly added that the Sea Eagles are excited to be working with the Warriors to make the event a great success for both Clubs on and off the field.

“It was important to us when considering a Perth opponent to find an NRL Club that was willing to be an event partner and not just a visiting team. The Warriors are a progressive Club with an exciting roster and were a natural choice to approach,” Kelly said.

“Through the partnership both Clubs will support the event through media, marketing and player appearances.”

The Sea Eagles are seeking to engage with corporate partners based in WA through a range of partnership and match day hospitality options. The Club today also launched a WA Membership which includes a category one match ticket and an exclusive meet and greet with Manly players.

Manly have historically taken two home matches away from Brookvale Oval each year. In 2015 home matches were played in Albury and Gosford.

The Club will soon announce a new official travel partner that will bundle packages for Sea Eagles Members and supporters for the Club’s interstate matches. The ticket on-sale date will be announced soon.

It's becoming a bit sad that the marketing of the NRL game in Perth always seems to be centered around the Kiwi angle..

Isn't there a large indigenous population in Perth that could be targeted for a change with say the likes of Thurston getting a game over there ?

My personal theory:

Teams keep taking the Warriors over there knowing the jetlag will f*ck with them moreso than any other team...

On a different note, id like to see the indigenous Allstars game taken over to Perth once the contract with Suncorp ends. The PR angle would be great for the game and the exposure RL would game would (i imagine) be greater than a regular season game (no VFL competition, a higher profile team playing, etc)

Perth is full of kiwis and poms. Warriors are always guaranteed to draw a big crowd.

Hope they follow through on their commitment to actually do some work here, not just turn up and take the money.

.

Yeah I get it... There are some Expat Kiwis over there and the Warriors will get a good crowd...

But we are still talking about a small minority of the population, and looking at the TV ratings the NRL gets on free to air TV over there, the NRL and bid team needs to start devising some strategies to market the game to a wider demographic...

If Perth ever gets a team, I don't think they are going to be able to get the Warriors over there every second week...

It's a good idea but it would be Perth in February though. Might be boiling.

Pick a year where the NRL grand final is a week later than the AFL one and play the All Stars match in Perth on the Friday or Saturday night before the NRL grand final (6:45pm local/8:45pm EST as no DST yet).

Problem is all the activity is driven by the clubs not the NRL. For the clubs it's how much money they can make so it's logical they will try and bring opposition they think will sell tickets. Souths v Titans will be interesting to see what the crowd is.

And if Perth get a team they aren't going to be reliant on opposition fans lol.

Ok.. I missed that Souths v Titans are playing as well.

I really hope that they can attract a good crowd too...

They need to rely on people that are interested in Rugby League.. not just Kiwis wanting to see the Warriors play...

Souths v Storm drew well and cowboys got about 12k for a pre season game.
Last Manly v Warriors game was played at Subi oval and got over 21k.

Not sure if we'll get any push back at no expansion decision again but RL fans here are so desperate for some live action that they are unlikely to cut their noses off to spite their faces.

No I very much doubt it unless it was def part of growing the infrastructure ready for a NRL club. The downsides ie cost (upwards of $1mill a year) plus weakening of the NRLWA comp alongside the great difficulty in being competitive with NRl club aligned sides and pokie empire funded clubs would mean it would be a waste of time.

Much better that money got spent on our Jnr set up. the best kids are going into Pritaes SG ball side and being picked up from their by NRL clubs so we have a shop window for our talent. NSW cup adds nothing to the RL scene in WA imo.
