The WA Reds would be favourites for the 18th license, especially if they can get it ready for 2013. If 2014, CQLD come back into the frame.

I had a very interesting meeting this afternoon that I can't share too much detail on but I can say that we may not have the superior bid but we are favourites. Our bid is there barring one issue and that is now the priority for the bid team. This "getting it ready" is done except one issue, an important issue but the last remaining i to dot.

Exciting times ahead!

Great to hear, for both bid teams!

As much as I can,
the last thing we need is some firm corporate committment or a big money backer. It isn't essential but would give the NRL more confidence in our financial sustainability. It is what the bid team is going to be really working hard on and we have some good business people with strong contacts in WA business world on the bid team so fingers crossed they can get someone over the line.

Everything else the NRL is very happy with and apparently the TV values are significantly improved with having a WA team which is what is giving us the favourites tag at this point in time.

We could do with a good membership push but it isn't essential as the NRL recognise we have a strong starting supporter base of around 15k with some hardcore fans who will have a supporters club set up well before the team kick offs.

They are very pleased with our jnr development and can see that having an NRL team will be a massive boost for the game over here at all levels, especially with a new dynamic WARL heavily involved in the Reds, leading to development of WA bred players in the not too distant future for the club.

Stadium redevelopment is on schedule with work due to start mid to late this year and be completed early 2013.

Presuming expansion does go ahead then we are in a very good position to get a team and make it a success, adding significantly to the ARLC/NRL on a number of levels.

There was other very interesting stuff that I am afraid I can't divulge but none of it negative.

Fantastic news PR. I think one thing everyone can agree on is that a Perth team is essential to any talk of expansion.

IMO, this is also good news for the Bears bid.

That is great news Red

Just pie in the sky stuff but I wonder if the bid team has contacted Peter Holmes acourt. SInce he has taking a back seat at the bunnies to Rusty maybe he would be interested in ditching them and taking full ownership of the reds or at the very least could help in establishing contacts with the big end of town

He would have 10x more idea/information/insight into all the bids (and what stage theyre at) as a whole than anybody on this forum.

In saying that, this isnt new information. The CC Bears bid appears to be much further along than any of the others.

The exciting thing for CC Bears supporters and the bid is that someone as high up in the NRL and in the know as Annesley has labelled the bid superior.

What do you think of his actual direct comments today?

http://www.couriermail.com.au/ipad/rug-pulled-from-under-bear-cheek/story-fn6ck6f9-1225991971556

But Annesley said last night he was not sure whether he had given the Bears such cause for optimism.

"A number of areas are well advanced," Annesley said. "They all have pluses and minuses.

"Yes, the Bears have a stadium. But that is just one part of the equation. Central Queensland have been promised a stadium.

"But there are no frontrunners because expansion is not on the agenda at the moment."

"But there are no frontrunners because expansion is not on the agenda at the moment."

That is a bullsh*t call, the NRL wouldn't be giving official merchandise tags to expansion bids if that was the case, nor would they allow it to be talked up to the extent it has, nor would they be meeting representatives of one the bids each few weeks.

Not much in it. He just said there are no front runners.

I find his reasoning behind that statement more interesting.

"there are no frontrunners because expansion is not on the agenda at the moment."

Is that the only reason Graham? So if expansion was on the agenda they would be?

What agenda are we talking about Graham? the next agenda? cause obviously that would be putting the IC in place or are we talking about agendas over the next few years? in that case you are clearly lying through your teeth Graham.
