I have mentioned my thoughts on a brand new team, As the poster above said it will get a few other supporters onboard which will help.

Come 20 years no one will know it was a Sydney team moved across
How many would know now? I'm in my fifties and have no memory of watching newtown.

There is enough, The beer fest they have at Henson sells out every year.

There would be some flow on, atleast early on which you want. Once the squad is full of locals and flying then the origins of the name won't matter

People make a big deal out of the Beer Fest, but that's the only decent crowd they draw most years. Outside of it they'd average about a thousand.

Even if the average West Australian was clueless the media would make damn sure that everybody in the state knew that they'd just been lumped with Sydney's sloppy seconds. It'd be mentioned in every report, talked about before every game, speculated about by every pundit when the team was struggling, etc, etc.

It'd undoubtedly turn potential fans in WA off, and the only people that'd truly stand to benefit would be a relative handful of out of touch geriatrics in Sydney who the team shouldn't be for anyway.

It'd be a different discussion if we were talking about a current NRL side relocating, but we're not, and the Bears and Jets have little of value to offer Perth and their demands in return have been beyond unreasonable.

But what’s the advantage? Is a team called jets going to get perth people excited? Not really, do they have a large Sydney fanbase who would migrate over to a perth jets club, no, their fans number in the couple of thousand.
Do they have money to help with pathways funding? No. Do they have a strong Sydney based jnr pathway System? No.

only thing jets offer is an opprtunity for a perth club to establish a new jnr pathway system based in Sydney run by a Semi established second tier club. I’m not sure that’s enough to justify giving up on Perth having its own identity and the nrl having a better brand in the comp.
All of which can be achieved by simply affiliating with clubs on the East Coast, or even buying one out and doing it yourself if you like. No need to give up ownership, the brand, almost certainly places on the board and control over the club, home games to Sydney, and the such.

Partnering with either the Jets or Bears is a moronic idea. The only reason you'd seriously consider it is if the NRL is pressuring for it, and if that's the case Perth should pass on the NRL in disgust and take their time and money elsewhere. The AFL is almost certainly going to need a 20th team soon, and they won't do you dirty like that.

That's why I don't like the bears idea, it would be a Sydney team not a party one. They thought they had some sort of power and tried to use it.
If the jets wanted seats in the board etc well then no thanks.

I remember that game. James Grant running down the wing to score a length-of-the-field try. Good times.

Alexander backs Perth over PNG for club 18

Although their respective clubs may be bitter rivals on the field, Alexander agreed with Politis’ sentiment despite the large financial backing of a PNG franchise.
“I know PNG has government backing, there’s a lot of money involved, so financially and politically, it does seem to be the one,” Alexander said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“I’m a hundred per cent that Perth should be the next team, I’m a hundred per cent and (I) said back on day one when they said PNG was going to be the new franchise.

“Go to Perth.”
