What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

Despite not having the greatest first game, lets give the bloke some credit.

He's now an NFL player. Most said he would never make it, but there he is living his dream. Word.

Agree. Getting on the field game 1 is a big deal. Hopefully he can perform better the next chance he gets but either that is a massive achievement.

Colin Scotts talking him up big time on Fox Sports News - says making a mistake was the best thing for him as the real test is how you rebound yada yada yada...

That's all well and good if he is lucky enough to get another chance.

I think Hayne is lucky they won the game and his mistake didn't cost them any points otherwise he quite easily of had the fingers pointed at him.

Overall he didn't get a great deal of opportunity to show what he could do and you can't blame the 49ers after you consider his first involvement, but he did have some decent moments where he quite easily could have fallen in a heap.

On to next week hopefully.

Big difference in pace & intensity from the trials to the real thing. As you'd expect.

It was a pity that he tried to catch that punt & a pity he stuffed it up. But he made a solid debut, contributed when he could and got some runs & catches as a RB. Something most people assumed he wouldn't get even after he made the final cut.

Love seeing him in the NFL.

Jarryd Hayne has tremendous self belief. He will return and eventually achieve greatness in the NFL.

We need a little perspective. Devin Hester, who is the NFL's greatest kick/punt returner of all time, has dropped quite a few kicks/punts in his ten year career. And that is despite the fact that he started playing the game when he was young, and was a huge college football success before he became an NFL player. Yet Hester's greatness as a runner of the ball always overrode that occasional handling lapse.

Jarryd Hayne did not have Hester's great apprenticeship. Intelligent people, including the 49ers coach, know that and will put it into the frame of their evaluation of Jarryd's fumble and his performance in general.

One thing that struck me and should strike most league fans, is how many people attended the game. It was like a Grand Final. I think the crowd was 68,000. Much better attended even than the crowds at the world's best attended rugby league club, the Brisbane Broncos.

Although one should note that NFL clubs are all at least one city clubs, or represent an area bigger than one city (e.g. New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers) and that the San Francisco Bay area is two or three times the size of the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Still, even the world's most successful rugby league competition has paltry weekly attendances compared to those of the NFL.

That's always been the case, you'd have to be living in a cave to somehow miss it. That'll happen when you generally have entire cities following a single team.

That first mistake was poor. I think it was an adrenaline thing, wanting to get his hands on the ball, the stadium was pumping at that point too. Once he misjudged it he was always in a bit of trouble.

Aside from that it was solid. I'd say he got pulled from punt duty because Bush went down and that meant Hayne had to play more snaps than he was originally supposed to. That was probably enough for him to deal with without having to back up and punt return as well.

Seen worse rookie debuts. Hell, seen worse rookie debuts this week.

Yeh it was good that Tim could plan the trip a couple months ago

He couldn't have planned the trip 2 months ago because at that time he didn't know if Jarryd would make the cut, nor could he have been certain that Parramatta would not make the playoffs. So he obviously paid top dollar for his plane ticket.

Didnt seem any different and their tacking is just as poor hence Haynes ability to beat the first guy just as easily.

JT knows what he's capabale of and we'll be seeing plenty of Hayne throughout the season.

It was a joke about parra's inability to make finals. Thought it was pretty obvious tbh
