What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

Hayne is still learning the game, he is going to make the odd mistake, all players do.

His limited opportunities are because the coach is easing a new untried player into the game.

If he continues to perform he will get more opportunities as the season progresses.

People in Aust just have unrealistic expectations, he was never likely to walk into the team and be the star player from day 1.

His game should continue to improve for the next 3-4 years, even by the end of this season, he should be a better player.

That is not going to be anything dramatic, just having more a feel for the game and making better decisions.

He may have the odd breakout game where he is the star player, he did that on occasions in the NRL. But it will be harder to do that consistently in the NFL.

He's fumbled again supposedly, I'd be surprised if the 9ers keep him considering their backs already.
He will probably get another contract from another team but it won't be a high profile, glam one like Sanfran.

FFS Jarryd come back to Rugby League.

Quit wasting your career as a 4th string RB and occasional punt returner.

Think you might be correct, he just does not get a chance to do anything.

SF clearly have no confidence in his ability to run or catch a pass

I don't know why NRL fans are so negative about Hayne.

Personally, I would like to see him do well and if any NRL player is going to make it in the NFL Hayne is by far the mostly likely candidate.

I know there is some unrealistic hype about him in the Australian media, but to be honest he has matched or exceeded my expectations for far.

The limited game time SF are giving him us not unexpected, it is actually an achievement to be getting any game time.

As for his prospects of a long term NFL career it is too early to tell, but I think injury is the main risk.

If he keeps trying hard and maintains a positive attitude he has the ability to go 1-2 steps further and establishing himself as a regular NFL player.

I personally think he is on track, that is why I don't get the negativity.

I was not a particular fan of Hayne before this adventure, but I do admire him for having a go.

He had a quiet game, made a few errors when given limited opportunities.
His worst game yet.
That block miss was BAAAAAAAD.

Injury his main concern?

How about the fact he's old as f**k to be learning / beginning the game and has a ridiculously short career window. Meaning he has to be on point for nearly every play.

Given the fact that he isn't getting much time to prove himself and thus far he hasn't had a glowing game. Is he even going to survive the cut for next season with the current team he is with? Let alone get an opportunity elsewhere?

Pretty similar situation to Sam Burgess isn't it? Some transferable skills, but a lot of time needed

Hayne gets hammered for a couple of fumbles yet their quarterback has been dogsh*t all season and is on a lot more $ than Jarryd.

Will be a deadset farce if the 49ers cut him when A: their team is one of the worst in the NFL and B: They've barely given Hayne any ball to show that he's much better than a heap of their overrated primadonnas.

Well they wouldn't have confidence, he fumbled on his first punt return in the game - It's not a good sign.

It's the NFL - You make with the chances you get or you're done.

I suspect someone like the Browns, Lions or Jacksonville might take him but he's likely stuffed his main opportunities.

He already has some of the skills he needs, the problem is in adjusting to the things he needs to do differently.

But if he didn't have the ability to adjust, he would not have got this far.

Success is not guaranteed, but he has come a reasonably long way in a short time-frame.

Who knows what the Americans are thinking, the 49ers are a team with lots of issues.
If they don't perform, the coach may be sacked, that might be a problem for Hayne, but perhaps not.

Even if he was cut, he has probably shown enough to get a gig elsewhere, even if he doesn't do much more he has done enough to drift around the NFL for 3-4 years and make considerably more money than he can playing NRL.

He will only get punted when he has a bad attitude, stops improving, or runs out of teams that want to give him a chance. He may get bored after a year or 2 if he gets limited opportunities.

There is no evidence so far that the 49ers are thinking of punting him, or that he is getting bored or lacking motivation.

isnt he playing like 30 secs a game? how can he get injured?

i dont understand grid iron so cant talk about his prospects. i hope he actually does well and i think he has the ability to do well given his athleticism.

on one hand i can understand them limiting his opportunities, on the other hand, given the injuries they have and his supposed ability to be able to fill those injured roles i'm not sure why he isnt getting a bit more of a go
