What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

I think at the end of the day the 49ers and the NFL got exactly what they wanted out of this experiment: 1. Positive off season story line 2. Brought more exposure to the league in a foreign market 3. Increased merchandise sales

And even if the average fan never hears of Hayne again, the NFL will have considered this a success.

lol, some Knights members said a board member said we were clearing the decks for Hayne. Bahahahaha. We could clear every deck in Newcastle and Uncle Nick would come over the top of us with the flick of a few sms's.

Hayne's media profile is bigger than ever... he'll have sponsors lining up to endorse their shit... provided he plays in Sydney of course.

He was put in the team as a PRer.

He had 8 punt returns. He fumbled 3 of them.
Let that sink in for a minute....

On top of that, when he was put in at RB, he had no idea how to block, one of which led directly to a sack.

If you live in a fairy land if you think this is acceptable. This isn't the Hayne show that revolves around him learning.

So who got punted for the other 27 times Kap has been sacked this season? He also only fumbled twice. Getting crashed into by your own blockers then having the ball hit you as you are falling to the ground is hardly his fault. The first fumble was an absoloutely clanger, while the 2nd was a pretty regulation strip that you see fairly regularly in the league. AP from my vikings has given up a few fumbles this year in that fashion.

No one claims Hayne played well, I just don't see that he has played any worse than anyone else in the 49ers squad this year, and believe other RBs on the roster have been just as bad if not worse than he (Davis).

In hindsight he should have probably taken up the supposed offer at Seattle regardless of whatever extra cash the 49ers put forward. That guaranteed $100K commitment could have cost him 10 times that

I think there is no way known the NRL will allow him to come to the Roosters, largely because they won't open up their marquee fund for us to sign him to the NRL after 12 months out of the game which would take us out of the running. They would prefer to see him go back to parra for sure, or if not them then to another less financially stable club that would benefit from his presence. I agree that a non-sydney club would probably have a tough time getting the NRL on board with signing him though.

TBH I think the NRL are too stupid to help any club get him back to the NRL. If they were smart they would offer to top up Hayne's contract by $500k+ and negotiate another $500K in 3rd party deals with NRL sponsors, offered to him regardless of what club he then plays for. The same deal should be offered to SBW, Burgess, all of em.

The fact the best forward and best back in rugby league aren't playing in our comp or even our sport is bloody ridiculous

Agree very much with your last line Danish. The NRL and RL in general needs stars. The NRL doesn't produce players of Hayne's ability that often, and English RL produces players as good as Burgess even less often.

The best thing for the sport I watch - RL - would be for both to return to the NRL. Hopefully dissuading others from leaving in the process.

It does beg the question as to why our top players seem to view the sport as just a steeping stone rather than the pinnacle of achievement. You don't hear AFL players talking about wanting to play for the Wallabies, or Socceroos wanting to join the NRL.

No but you get AFL players going to be punters in the NFL or Socceroos playing in Europe. Money is a hell of a motivator.

Money, prestigious events, sports profile. whilst RL remains a minor world player in the sporting scene you cant be surprised that players will leave to either earn more money, become more famous or take part in major sporting events. Sam burgess is earning 41.3mill in Union, I'm sure if that salary was available to him in the NRL and he had the chance of capt a GB v Kangaroos Ashes series this year he wouldn't be embarrassing himself in that inferior sport.

Jarryd didn't go to the NFL for money. He's always enjoyed challenging himself and succeeding.

Similar could be said about Burgess.

Funny that, then people make the opposite argument about SBW when all the evidence suggests he's the same

In Hayne's case why not "challenge himself" to win a Premiership in the NRL? Or is that too hard? Or for Burgess what about beating Australia in a test series or winning the RL WC? Or again is that too hard?

Well SBW did actually walk out of a contract and team, mid season, without warning or permission, all because he wanted more money from French Rugby.

Bus drivers don't have salary caps...

It's good of you to spend so much of your time setting lofty goals for people who are no doubt vastly more successful than yourself

You can't "challenge" yourself to win a Premiership
Unless you've not noticed, Rugby League is a team game

Individuals don't challenge themselves to win team awards, because it's impossible

Hayne could "challenge" himself to be bought by a club that has half a chance of winning a Premiership, but that means his loyalty to Parramatta would need to end.

You can challenge yourself to make a team that you are eligible to play for as your own performances are the benchmark by which you are chosen. Beyond that, it's about being in the right place at the right time.

Has Hayne done everything there is to do in league?

No.

And the top of the list is to win a premiership. Just ask most players.
