What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

As you'd expect from an NFL tuned player Hayne's stamina is half what is expected, even when he cruised through NRL games with the odd spurt of brilliance he wasn't up to the level of commitment required by a game with nowhere to hide like the 7's

So anyone that struggled through watching that tripe, can you say with a straight face that you couldn't pick 7 NRL players today and have them give that Australian side a flogging in a game of 7s next week?

They must be the whitest league or union squad in the country

You could pick 7 from the Australian Super Rugby sides and give that team a flogging.

Fox Sports is funny though, they desperately wanted him to succeed in the NFL and now desperately want him to fail at Rugby 7s

Should see a lot more of Hayne today. With Fiji wrapping up the series after beating Australia I think Ben Ryan will use him a lot more. Possibly even start him.

Absolutely. Seriously most of the blokes in that squad looked about Holden cup quality.

The way they've handled the Aussie 7s selections is diaboliglcally bad. They should have had a series of open tournaments, with NRL, S15, state rep sides for Union and league, and "professional" 7s squads all invited to play. Hell invite the bloody AFL to enter if they want. Then built a squad from those tournaments.

Could have been televised and promoted out the ass. You'd get a full house at any stadium in Australia for that series.

Instead we have some tweed patch ponce coach lording over the sport and banning any NRL or S15 players from selection unless they commit to the amateur 7s Micky mouse tour for 12 months! Then when we fail to medal he'll wonder why

So you would be happy having NRL players from your club risking injury in Mickey Mouse 7's selection trials?

When are they going to play them - mid week to avoid NRL club commitments, or would you be happy with them being stood down for their club games on the weekend?

Lol no thanks. NRL have players play enough games during the year let alone having to play that merkin of a sport.

Would only matter for the olympics. Moot point with the bizarre selection policy for the aussie 7s.

It's a moot point as I don't see why the NRL need concern themselves about Union 7s or Olympics.

Because if they do Australia would win the gold every olympics, and we aren't exactly overflowing with medal hopefuls this year so they all count. Fiji would probably love to have a few of the Fijian flyers from the NRL in their squad.

Also, I'd imagine the players would very much enjoy a chance to represent their nation at the Olympic Games

So you want RL stars to give some massive free promotion to one of the games biggest rival codes just so Australia can move up a place on rhe Olympic medal table? Bizarre!

Looks like all the nfl experts have turned into 7s experts overnight

Lol yep. It's pretty funny seeing the same guy who claimed Hayne would be starting RB for the 49ers now claiming that NRL players would walk into 7s and win gold medal after gold medal right after watching Hayne embarrass himself in the 5 minutes he got.

Because if they do Australia would win the gold every olympics

Lol no they wouldn't. They'd give away about 30 penalties per match just on rucks alone.

You think NRL players coming in once every 4 years and embarrassing all the union world by beating them at their own game would PROMOTE Union? It would show them up as a 2nd class sport, while also give league elites proper international competition to take part in.

Hell if we tie test selection to 7s you'd probably also enhance the international game for league as players opt to represent Fiji, Samoa, Tonga etc permanently so they can go to the olympics.

Either way, as an Olympic sport the selection process should be as open as possible, not restricted so much that the top 500 players in the country are ineligible

Wouldn't it make more sense to try and develop 9s to a level where it could be an olympic sport?

The top 500 rugby union players in the country are playing.........rugby union.

Different governing body, totally different rules.

Any rugby league player who wanted to make themselves available could have done so. The ARU's coach could have played them, just as the Fiji coach played Hayne.

Did any make themselves available? No.

Bizarre.

So explain to me again what's in it for Union and particularly Union 7s?

They are also trying to promote a world circuit annually that seems to attract decent crowds...

In the unlikely event that NRL players are going to come in and dominate on their biggest stage once every 4 years I think it's probably better for them to avoid the "embarrassment".
