What if.......

This is totally imaginary, but what if all 16 teams folded and a new league started up immediately with 16 new teams.

Imagine that everyone had to start from scratch and all the current players were drafted NFL style.

Who would be the first pick?

Anyone care to venture the Top 5? Or even be daring and guess who'd be the first 16 picked?

My top 5 players i would target would be

1. Darren Lockyer
2. Nathan Hindmarsh
3. Ben Hannant
4. Jarryd Hayne
5. Greg Inglis

then i would target a second string halfback preferably a rookie like Kris Keating (someone like that) and i think that would be a basis of a decent team in the making 2 decent forwards a world champ 5/8 and 2 good backs.

Due to the lack of quality halves and five eights going around, Johnathon Thurston and Scott Prince would be the the first players picked. Followed by a good five eight. The clubs would be looking at hookers and fullbacks. Lock fowards would probably be the last players picked.

Hindmarsh LOL.....i wouldn't go for lockyer either considering he probably only has 1 more season in him.

Top 10

1. Thurston
2. Smith
3. Inglis
4. Slater
5. Farah
6. Prince
7. Hayne
8. Creagh
9. Folau
10. Campese

Good backs seem to be a dime a dozen, good forwards are in surplus.

To build a club around?

I'd want to attract a lot of class and by signing Darren Lockyer I believe I'd be investing into a bright future for the club as a number of juniors would be attracted by the signing and would likely follow suit.

Mind you, that's coming from me at 5am in the morning.

first you would go for a few elder statemen
i think what the titans did was fantastic
prince, campbell and bailey
and then built the team around that
then they got rogers
they had a character or cult favourite in sideshow bob
and some good young talent

so i would get a kimmorley, or a prince
a slightly older head to steer the ship
someone tough up front to lead there
someone with a huge X-factor like a jennings, or a hayne
and someone who might not play very well, but still is a crowd favourite. like a daine laurie or a dell

My top 5:

Prince
Farah
Slater
Kenny
Civoneceva

That 1,7 & 9 would light up anything else. Civoneceva is still playing great footy, and get a good young prop in Kenny to take over his mantle when he retires in a couple of years.

Why pick Lockyer? He has 2 yrs left at best...and they wont be his best years.

Take thurston with the first pick and then take Cameron Smith followed by Ben Creagh.

For my team I'd pick

D. Boyd
K. Hunt
S. Thaiday
P. Gallen
T. Carney.

All good players that would enjoy each others company..

I'd go:

Thurston
Inglis
Brett Stewart
Farah
Jennings/Folau (can't decide)

EDIT: That's not because I don't care for forwards...I just can't think of any champion forwards at the moment who aren't on their way to retirement. If SBW was still in the NRL I'd pick him.

lol... Lockyer and Hindmarsh... you're building a club, not folding it...

I wouldn't have it any other way, my first five would be Hannant, Ennis, Ryan, Patten and Stagg probably. Good spine to start with, would hopefully attract a class half after that and go from there.
