I've watched a few over the weekend.

Vantage Point: One of those movies that turned out to be a lot better than I thought. Solid action thriller 3/5

Perfect Stranger: Very hard movie to judge. First 50 minutes was absolute boredom. From there, it was okay with a pretty damn good and twisted last 20 minutes. The movie suffered through some bad writing....it could and should have been better to match a good quality final 20 minutes. Overall 2/5.

16 Blocks. Fairly decent action thriller from Bruce Willis. It got no attention but I thought it was a quality watch. 3/5

Tears From The Sun. Pretty average military movie. 2/5

Scarecrows: Old school horror film with killer scarecrows. Pretty average. 2/5

The Replacements (2000)

Cheesy, clichéd shit. I watched because of Gene Hackman but even he couldn’t save this basic bitch of a movie.

American footballers are on strike and get replaced by some rag-taggers blah blah blah.

So the same happened with the cheer-leaders?

Just junk. No spuds.

Just Mercy. 8 Quite depressing to say it is a pretty standard tale of a miscarriage of justice against a minority on death row, but that pretty much sums it up well.

Good acting and an interesting story.

Child’s play (2019). Pretty good for this kind of movie. Kid main actor did a really good job I thought. Not really scary but it’s short run time breezes by enjoyable enough. Not worth another viewing but I’m not sorry I watched it.

A few I’ve seen lately...

Shutter Island - A typical Scorcese film, a very compelling, well-told story of an investigation into a missing person from a mental asylum on the titular Shutter Island. Set in mid 20th century, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a U.S Marshal. He and his partner (Mark Ruffalo) are sent to the island to investigate and Teddy (LDC) uncovers a shocking reality of the place.

Excellent performances by LDC, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams and Max Von Sydow, which create a mysterious, creepy and intriguing plot. 4/5

White Boy Rick - An interesting premise that fails to deliver when you’d expect. It’s as if there was stuff missing. Good performances by the leads but when the story picks up steam, there’s not much of a result. 2.5/5

Once Upon a Time.. In Hollywood - Second time I’ve seen it and as much as I like it, there’s a few annoying issues. For me the best aspect of it, is how Tarantino made Los Angeles one of the characters, and a lead at that. I’m fascinated by places and cultures and while L.A isn’t that interesting, he makes it much more so, with the way he uses famous restaurants and shows/invents many ads, etc. All these little things give a great feel to the whole thing. Now to a couple of annoyances I have with it. It drags quite a bit in the middle and while the ending is amazing, the constant narration is annoying. All in all a great movie though.

Bloodshot - apparently based on a comic. Decent but nothing amazing, seems to lift ideas from lots of other movies. Vin Diesel gives a very Vin Diesel performance.

Ok I just forced myself to watch The Predator all the way through, and hooooooooly f**k.

That final scene, the setup for future sequels, what the f**k? In the context of the rest of the film it makes no sense whatsoever. What a f**king dumb movie all round... Like, Transformers level stupid.

Fan of the 80s originals and I was happy with it as well. Good tongue-in-cheek humor.

Prisoners

The 2013 film, starring Hugh Jackman, and Jake Gyllenhall.

What a tour de force this film is - it asks tough questions, and is legitimately uncomfortable to watch in parts, but it's excellently-acted, and proposes an interesting story.

Uncut Gems - This was an absolute panic attack inducing cacophony full of the most infuriating characters with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The shouting, oh god, the constant shouting over each other, it was relentless, exhausting, and left me with a headache. I hated the experience of watching it, but I was fully engaged right until the end. The final twenty or so minutes was a pure adrenaline rush.

7/10

The Post: Unbelievably boring. Too many loungeroom scenes etc. Loungerooms should hardly ever be in movies. American Beauty had some great loungeroom scenes but that's because the whole movie Lester Bernam character was kind of making fun of loungerooms.

Crawl

I like the movies where a wild animal tries to kill people. Found myself scrolling my phone way too often. Predictable and no real scares. 5/10

If you want that type of movie check out The Shallows instead

Yep, stinker.

Agree on The Shallows or for a bit of fun an aussie croc movie like Rogue instead.

yeah Rogue shits all over Crawl from a great height

I’m no biologist but I know a bit about crocodilian behavior and Crawl was laughable, at least Rogue acted like an actual crocodile

I loved this movie, both actors nailed their parts. It’s on Netflix so would highly recommend anyone who hasn’t seen it to do so.
