I give up, all week my better half has been saying this Saturday night we are going to watch a movie at home, we had already picked the movie so after a nice dinner with drinks and nibbles and nice music before it we just about ready to watch the movie my better half flicks the TV and see Eurovision, Australia decides and says we are watching that instead , was already recording it anyway so could easily watch it later, it was the first time in ages i felt like watching a movie on Saturday night as i'm usually working Sunday, i give up LOL.

I got to watch a preview of birds of prey tonight.

Great fun, like a bonkers, comic book John wick.

Thoroughly enjoyed it as a sheer popcorn movie.

DC are doing well lately.

Yeah it was a good bit of dumb fun.

I watched Master and Commander again last night.

I’ve always liked that movie. Good story, well shot, well paced.

Ol’ Rusty may be a bit of a flog but geeze he has some excellent movies to his name.

The Quake

Recorded it off SBS , it is a sequel to The Wave which was made in 2015 [which i have also recorded], Oslo in Norway gets devastated by a huge earthquake, of course all the warning signs were there but the authorities chose to ignore them, it follows the usual disaster script with character build ups just like Earthquake back in 1974 but not as quite soap operish and the whole story and Earthquake sequence were so much better than San Andreas. The closing scenes i actually felt squeamish with the close ups of part of the building on it side 34 stories up looking back towards the ground.
Cant wait to watch The Wave now but will wait for a while.

I watched the first half of this on SBS too, before my wife told me it was a sequel.

It was pretty good. I'm gonna go back and do The Wave, then get back on this.

Rocking a mean hangover and watching Fellowship of the Ring.

The original LOTR saga is still one of my all-time favourite cinematic experiences. Such a well-realized world.

Saw 1917 for a second time on Friday night. The movie is such a technical achievement. I didn’t really notice this the first time as I was so immersed in the story but this time I noticed that they shot the film in just 1 shot without using different shots.

It’s much better on a second viewing

Cool movie. The bit that sticks with me is the shell shocked captain who is breaking down in (I guess cowardly) tears in the trench. What are people supposed to think about that?

Ball Of Fire

A comedy from 1941 starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck, it was a bit of a play on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and a gangster mob. Was described as a screwball comedy but actually came up quite short, Barbara Stanwyck was nominated for best actress for this movie and i was expecting something a bit special but it was more like a ball of fluff, Stanwyck phoned in the role and i cant really work why she was nominated for an oscar for this role, usually i like this genre of movie which Warners produced and especially with Barbara Stanwyck in them but this one fell short for me.

Finally introducing my wife to Alien tonight. She's all on board with it as a feminist piece of film, but I'm just keen for her to experience its radness.

The sheer isolation just creeps me out in that movie, it is so well done. If you like The Shining check out a movie from 1976 called Burnt Offerings with Karen Black and Oliver Reed, i'm not suggesting that Burnt Offerings is a better movie than The Shining but it has been written many times that Stephen King got his inspiration for The Shining from Burnt Offerings and there are a few similar parallels in the movie.

The Favourite - 8/10. All-round well done.

Parasite - 8.5/10. Happy for either this or 1917 to win Best Picture. Very good movie with an original script.

Yeah i found a copy to read before it was released and knew as soon as i finished the film would be meh. Some things just dont crossover that well. Although IT managed to provide something decent while leaving out a few of the weirder aspects that work on paper but would probably end up looking ridiculous on screen dr sleep was just a snoozefest.

Rebecca ferguson has a decent rig on her at least

Lacked everything which made the original great. Honestly you could watch Dr sleep and not know anything about the original.
