Speak No Evil, western remake. 8/10.

Speak No Evil on SBS. Danish original. 5.5/10

Rare case where the western remake is superior. Largely due to how good McEvoy was but also the fleshed out the story a lot and added some humour.

Some parts are near word for word re enectment but there are plenty of differences up until act3, then they are very different films.

If I'd seen the original first I wouldn't have watched the remake.

Yep. Thought the remake was great. Haven't watched the original but am interested to do so.
While a co-worker has seen the original and even though I have praised the remake, feels there is no need to see it.

Seven Samurai 1954
Saw this on the big screen in Brisbane a few days ago, really a special treat, showing the great talents of Director Akira Kurosawa and the two leads Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura. Slightly over 3 hours long but no-one in the audience seemed to care at all, everyone sat quietly in awe of this masterpiece. The theatre kindly gave us a 15 minute interval around halfway - my 64 year old bladder appreciated that. So many memorable scenes in this movie not least of which is the battle scenes at the end, just amazing to watch, they leave any remakes for dead. I enjoyed the 1960 version "The Magnificent Seven", a worthy copy but nothing beats the original.

I was soooooo tempted to see this on the big screen but unfortunately, I had a place to be during its running time. I'll check around for this coming weekend.

The Substance. 7, was probably going to be an 8 but the last 5 mins dropped it right down.

Probably only for horror fans, it has plenty of body horror.

Morbius. Not as bad as I was expecting and I thought Leto was quite good. Started off passable but got worse the longer the movie went on.
I kept thinking early on, the script and acting was ok but the direction was just boring as dog shit and visually it was just bland.

Yeah saw this last weekend, and basically all I knew going in was that it was 'body horror' and Demi got her kit off without knowing any details of what the movie was actually about hah!

As someone that grew up on early Peter Jackson films, I wasn't put off by it, but that last section was super wacky and it really came out of left field.
Not even sure how to rate the movie, I enjoyed the experience but not sure it was a "great movie", like everything else these days, seemed to be subversion for the sake of subversion. Definitely not boring though!

Saw Gladiator 2 last night on a whim.

Definitely not as good as the first one but still very watchable and entertaining. Lots of tributes to Maximus... Paul Mescal does a good job as the young Gladiator. Denzel plays an interesting part....

Got a mate that said similar things - obviously not as good as the first one, but found it entertaining and recommended seeing at cinema.

So I think I will the trailers didn't make me wanna go but word of mouth has more sway for me.

A Samurai In Time 8/10
This is a really fun movie, lots of laughs and some unexpected sad bits as well. It was refreshing to hear the whole audience having a good laugh in the cinema, haven't heard that in a long time.
This was filmed on a low budget but doesn't look it and has no big stars at all, rather a bunch of unknown actors. It opened in just one cinema in Tokyo and was expected to be a short run but word of mouth turned this little film into a 300 cinema and Japanese Social Media sensation, picking up a few awards along the way. I saw it at the Barracks Cinema in Brisbane but I'm not sure if it's playing anywhere else or on which Streaming service - it'll pop up somewhere.
A Samurai, during a fight against anothers clan's Samurai is hit by lightening mid fight and transported to the present but lands on the set of a Jidaigeki (historical Samurai TV show) and is mistaken for one of the extras.
There's a nice twist halfway through and the ending is really satisfying - very intense and completes the journey perfectly.
Highly recommended. If you liked Tampopo, you'll like this. If you don't like subtitles it isn't really a problem, there's a lot of visual comedy and the fight scenes and sword play are top notch.

Finally saw Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part 1.

Beautifully filmed and directed. Acting was great.
Very slow, so not for everyone. I really enjoyed it. It's only half the story though, so can't form an ultimate opinion until I see the second one.

Must try to watch Part 2 soon.
