What old 90's games would you like to see remade?

Ah but graphics and exclusive games aside, there are so so many reasons for me to be a console gamer.

-RTS remains the only genre I prefer the keyboard and mouse setup. Ok, FPS is obviously more precise, but I've been playing with dual analogue for so many years it is simply a non-issue for me. Control > keyboard+mouse for pretty much any other genre I can think of.

-High end PCs are more expensive to set up and maintain. Obviously they have many more functions than gaming, however, i prefer to simply own a laptop. Owning a PC for gaming means I'd need a desktop AND a laptop, and the desktop would be largely redundant - I already have a media center and game consoles hooked up to a massive TV + a laptop.

-I don't get botched, lazy console ports.

-I don't get DRM infected bullshit.

Botched ports and the gradual dumbing down of games is the main reason I hate consoles.
We've gone from classics like System Shock and the original Deus Ex to Modern Warfare. Gaming has gone backwards, not forwards. Mostly thanks to consoles!

That's my position and it's impossible to convince me otherwise :p

The blame lies with gaming going mainstream... blockbusters designed for mainstream audiences generally go for the lowest common denominator. The annual CoD whoring exists because apparently a bajillion people want to play CoD. If the mainstream was PC gaming, it would still happen.

From an entirely different angle, your point doesn't really make sense. System Shock and Deus Ex target a different audience to CoD. You're picking the best games of one era and comparing them to middle-of-the-road popular games of today. The highest quality, smartest, most immersive, complex, detailed entertainment is rarely the most popular - this applies to any form of media.

It's like saying "Movies suck now. We've gone from classics like The Godfather, to Transformers 3."

It seems far more sensible to say we've gone from classics like System Shock and Deus Ex to....classics like Half Life 2, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Skyrim

CoD is more analogous to CS/Doom/Quake

Apparently Fireaxis are remaking/reimagining the original, classic X-com game.
Hope they do a good job of it, the original was a brilliant game.

The turn based tactical parts will no doubt confuse the console kiddies.

No confusion about "turn based tactical parts" for me Pokemon is turn based, and if you play competitively over wi-fi it gets pretty damn tactical.

I'll make you a deal though, when there is some super HD Zelda game (that is not run on an emulator) on PC I will become a PC gamer.

You're off by a few genres there... pokemon is not turn based strategy (despite the fact that it is turn based and there are strategic elements).

In Nintendo terms, think more Fire Emblem/Advance Wars/Final Fantasy Tactics. All of which are excellent, btw.

or you get an xbox controller for your PC and you can emulate anything up to (and including) PS2, and you get a good portion of console games ported to PC (and when used with the xbox controller - lose most of their port-i-ness).

my PC, plugged into my 42inch tv (which it always is as a dual monitor via HDMI) is absolutely the ultimate gaming console.

you see, when you say "games i'd rather play on a console"... you're really saying "games i'd rather play with a controller". pc can do this every bit as good as a console. for me it comes down to two things -

1. Price... consoles are cheaper and have a longer life cycle
2. Ease of use... you plug a console in and you play it.

i love my pc, i love my consoles, so i sought a solution that ticked all boxes. anyone ragging on emulators either hasn't used one in 10 years or has never used one at all with a proper controller. they have come a long way. as i said, many PS2 games can now be emulated without issue (provided your pc has the minerals, and with pc prices these days, it should). N64 emulation is practically perfect across the entire catalogue.

I know, I was being sarcastic, if I was being serious I would have thrown up something like Fire Emblem, or Final Fantasy.

Don't need an emulator when I still have an N64 which works perfectly.

Only need Golden Eye, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, and DN3D to keep me happy.

ah i see, so your way is better, end of discussion, yeah?

lol. hows the old thumbsticks on your controllers going?

i guess my point is your assertion is totally geniused, i can give you at least 5 reasons why you would want to emulate rather than play the original console.

1 - portable save games
2 - freedom of controller / remapping controllers
3 - higher resolution for HDTV's
4 - total access to entire games catalogue, including many games you've not mentioned that are brilliant
5 - no need to bother with physical devices

that's straight of the top of my head, i could probably push it out to 10 if need be. forget the fact that i also play Genesis, snes, PS1, PS2, master system, MAME and some other obscure old school consoles with the same setup, without lifting a finger, or plugging in a single cable.

Please point out to me where I said my way is better, all I said is I don't need an N64 emulator since I still have one in working condition.

I still have a SNES, not that I use it anymore, but most of the games I liked on SNES are either available for download on the Wii or 3DS, so I don't need an emulator there, either.

As for the other consoles you mentioned, don't care for them so I don't need those emulators either.

ah sorry, you didn't, you just have a shit attitude. i have about half of those consoles in working condition myself.

you don't "need" any games on any console at all, so saying you don't "need" an emulator is a bit redundant really. what you really want to say is that you don't want one. i don't know why you bothered posting, really... other than to go "oo lala, i have a real n64". yeah, join the club.

Games I'd rather play on console
Sports
Racing
RPG
Adventure
Platformer
Fighting
Arcade

PC's have always had superior RPG's and adventure games. Witcher 2 being a case in point. Although they are bringing it console on the X-box early next year.
The Stalker series was a brilliant action/adventure series. Atmosphere in the original Stalker game was among the best ever.

Platform, fighting, arcade games always were more console oriented. Not interested in them in the slightest.

Only sports game I used to play were the NFL games. They suffered once again when EA managed to monopolise the market, and Sierra screwed up royally on their attempt to create the ultimate NFL game. Had they got it right, it would have wiped Madden off the map. But they didn't.

Only racing game I've played is Trackmania, works fine on PC. If they ever manage to get the new Trackmania game available on Steam I'll get it, until then I'll live without.

Pokemon still around? Not interested, never have been, never will be. For some reason I thought they did a Zelda game for PC, but I guess not. Again couldn't care less.

Anyway, back to the point that started this it'll be interesting to see what compromises the new X-com game will make to fit in with consoles. The original was a PC classic.

Gamers need to stick to together and stand up for each other because we're all getting used, abused and ripped.

PC and console gamers, let's hug.

Really??

I may have to look it up. Used to love that game for some reason. I think it largely stemmed around the jelly beans

If you want to go cheap, I remember buying my fianceé it from GAME's UK store (game.co.uk)...ended up pretty bloody cheap, good game.
