What the farewell of Nathan Cayless really means

The Eels have been sh*t this year thanks to their appalling lack of direction and the two years where they have been consistent have choked in the past decade, so a 50 point thrashing by the warriors next round will be a fitting summation of Cayless's reign as captain and a fitting farewell. I hope the few thousand that do go enjoy this symbolism.
Post Season Update:

As I said, Cayless was a great player in a team that couldn't give a f**k. If you thought they would turn up today against the Warriors for Cayless when they couldn't against the Rabbitohs for a finals spot in Cayless's last season you were kidding yourself.

The Eels need direction, end of story.

A miserable end for a miserable time at Parramatta for Cayless. If you want to feel sorry for him, feel sorry for the fact that he was a leader of such a sh*t team. One of my favorites of all time and will be missed, but the facts are there even for the most one eyed Eels fan...

I tell it like it is. The last two weeks are no different. Inconsistent dribble WAS the symbolic benchmark of Cayless's final match in a disappointing decade at the Eels.

I can't even be sarcastic in saying that was witty. The culmination of a decade of disappointment: enjoy. I own all three jerseys and they will be horrible reminders of broken dreams.

OK, Cayless may not be Winston Churchill, but after 250 games in the front row for Parra you cannot say he hasn't done his best - and it is always evident when his is out because our pack is noticeably weaker.

When you do 250+ games in the front row come back and whinge about how bad he is -in the meantime - f*ck off.

I think Nathan Cayless' record speaks for itself - most capped NRL skipper of all time and a World Cup-winning captain.

That, and he's the lifeblood of this club alongside his best pal Nate Hindmarsh.

I am really gutted that Caylo didn't even get to play Finals footy in his retirement season, but I'll be cheering the boys on to hopefully send him out a very deserving winner. He is a gentleman on and off the field and a legend of the club I hold so dear to my heart. I'm sure most non-Eels fans would say they too respect the bloke.

On one hand Im sad, On the other hand Im glad that we might actually have the chance of starting the new era with a strong captain. None of this nice guy stuff.

I'm not questioning the leadership of Cayless, just the decisions of those in charge and our lack of direction which in turn has destroyed what could have been a glorious career for him. Whilst he has had many personal achievements winning a premiership with the Eels is obviously not one of them.

I'm usually one of the most optimistic there is in re: to the Eels and it saddens me that it has come to this.

Idiot, there will be over 18k for this game.

LOL ARE YOU SERIOUS?

OKAY. IF THERE IS THAT MANY I WILL TAKE NUDE PICTURES, PM THEM TO EVERY EELS FAN ON THE BOARD AND SPRAY PAINT MYSELF IN BLUE IN GOLD FOR THEM.

Even if we have sold that many tickets which is laughable, I who had already bought them, along with anyone else, will be lucky to watch it on TV... it will be a painful game to even watch at home.

Very few can count an Eels crown amongst their achievements. Maybe 30 blokes. Maybe 25 at most. Very few. Bit harsh to judge him on that. Anyone who plays 250 games of NRL, especially at prop, doesn't deserve the moaning of any fan.

Actually what I'm complaining about is a culmination of the Eels of the last decade. Don't just read the thread title. Cayless, Hindmarsh and Burt are the only remaining players since the bulk of my support for the Eels... I'm not questioning them at all.

Yuck. That almost makes me hope we'll get less than 18k there.
