They only made $4m from sponsorship in 2021. Their biggest source of income is the annual grant, which is propping them up no matter how you try to spin it. Their next highest source of revenue is gaming machine revenue.
Lmao yeh maybe wait till their revamped leagues club opens. Pretty sure the year you quoted the leagues club was closed

and they get around 1 million in rent from the retail they own at the ground (think it’s a gym)

that’s one article about it

but the previous discussion by people at the arlc was literally about a Sydney conference and the rest so it’s not just me making this argument

and Wayne bennett clearly likes the idea

Yeah but just because V’Landys or Bennett thinks it might be a good idea doesn’t mean you have to as well. Particularly if it is on the basis of some appeal to authority or being obsequious.

Appeal to your own critical judgement instead. It’s not a good idea.

I still think they want conferences and 24 teams is the ideal two x 12. Play your conference home and away. Top five final system for both

tv will love it as it’s more derbies

the problem is I can’t think of 24 decent teams

Nobody could. There aren’t enough areas in Australia or New Zealand that could sustain a club financially.

The only possible way (and this is very very low probability) would be if the NRL became some commercial behemoth in Oceania and SE Asia

They've got a licenced venue in Kareela that is loaded with pokies. It is most definitely open and has been trading all year. They're also trying to amalgamate a club in Coffs Harbour.

If that’s the case than why haven’t they?

Also do teams want to play Sunday 6pm or late Saturday now? It most certainly offers a timeslot or options that are not really feasible now
Despite two decades of bigger afl tv deals due to metro reach some people still don’t get it lol

You don't think playing away from their home ground hurt? You know the home ground they own so has very little overheads

Soccer mums. Lots of kids actually get scared of tackling and being hit hard as they get older and it becomes more contact

dean young was a huge soccer junior star

ended up in league

soccer juniors literally have nowhere to go unless they go to England

a league is a joke

soccer has always been a massive participation sport even before a league
Rugby League is a very dangerous sport.

I always find it remarkable that aging marquees can still get around.

And champion people like Royce and Mario are losing their faculties so early.

We don’t do enough to protect our players.

Remember when you analysed foxtels accounts and said they were going broke ?

plus I’m sure if Cronulla got a brand new 350 mill stadium their finances would look better too
Cronulla's not getting a brand new $350m stadium.

Foxtel are owned by one of the richest men in the world. They can afford to take a hit because their owner can bail them out. He's also very old and has limited time on this Earth. Let's see what happens when he passes.

Their home ground is a shithole and needs to be maintained by the Cronulla Sharks. The fact they own it means it'll never get an upgrade from the NSW Gov.

Cronulla struggled to attract sponsorship before they shut down their ground to refurbish their Leagues Club.

They had to sell their stake in the Wooloware development to get $39m to bail themselves out of trouble. A good chunk of that money was spent on the redevelopment of their Leagues Club. This club ain't rich and it isn't appealing to advertisers due to its fanbase and catchment being so small. There's no where for them to grow. Their days are numbered.
