They don’t pay a rental fee at cronulla

but more importantly their fans didn’t travel to kogarah so their march day revenues were way lower than usual

All 16 clubs make profits now

Nailed it, It was offset slightly by the comp moving but still had half the season with game fees at Kogarah, loss of matchday compounded by no Leagues club where they could of run functions to atleast recover some of the money back

I don’t even like Cronulla that much either but these days their finances are pretty decent with the money they got from the developer and the upgraded leagues club

I never said they did.

So their fans aren't passionate?

Would explain the low attendances and low sponsorship for the club over the years.

Who wants to sponsor a club that has bugger all fans?

All 16 clubs make profits now

Take away the annual grant and most of them wouldn’t be able to cover the costs of fielding a team in the NRL.

Why do you think the annual grant keeps on going up?

If clubs were profitable then it would be going down.

Does no one on here know that Cronulla has a second licenced venue at Kareela that was open in 2001 and 2002?

It's spoken about in their annual report, which was released by Sharks at Kareela!

Rental fees aren't the issue. All three Queensland teams pay hefty rental fees that would send small clubs like Cronulla broke. Titans manage it without having a Leagues Club to fall back on. No matter how you dress it up, Cronulla isn't strong enough to compete in the NRL without the annual grant because their revenue stream is too small.

Not the Sharks they own it so is rent free, Throw in less members making the travel across
All you're doing is explaining why Sharks should be kicked out!

If their fans won't travel outside of Sutherland then they'll never be anything but a small club in an LGA that has just 220k people. A little over 5% of that population regularly attend games. So they're not even that popular in their LGA with 95% of people choosing to do other stuff.

They don't have the money or room to upgrade their ground since they've expanded their Leagues Club.

We need clubs that can draw more than 20k at large centralised stadia for big games.

Playing soccer hasn't converted them into A-League fans.

This is a great point.
Football (soccer) is so big, in terms of kids participation rates. It is by far the most popular sport for kids to play in this country.
It's staggering that this has not transcended into following the game at the highest level in Australia.

Soccer, netball, basketball. Three biggest participation sports for kids in Australia, yet attendances at prof level low to avg at best for most clubs in those sports. Participation does not translate into following the highest level of the sport clearly.

Lmao why do you think clubs get the annual grant

it’s not the arlc playing those games tv covers

I told you I’m not a huge fan of Cronulla but today their finances are good

you would’ve had an argument five plus years ago not now

Melbourne has a population of 4.8 people. Yet ave 18k to games (0.3% of the population) So gone?

Gold Coast has a population of 620k. Yet only ave 15k to games (2.5% of the population) ... so you are right they should be booted out

Brisbane 2.4m population. Yet draw 29k (1.5% of the population) to games...I guess we kick them out too?

North Queensland - Well Cairns and Townsville had populations of 336k combined
Yet Cows draw 17,210 ( Also just over 5% of the population) should they go too?
