The Herd - Summerland

not usually a hip hop fan in the slightest but this one is a beauty in my opinion.

It's dropped alright - dropped right into mainstream mediocrity. The first 3 tracks are OK, but from then on...my god...it's like they have listened to some U2 and Coldplay and said to themselves "we can write mainstream and make a heap of money too". They are absolutely lightyears behind what they were doing with 'Youth & Young Manhood'. I really liked 'Because of the Times', but this is such a massive disappointment...

I think it's a great album personally, sure it's different to previous albums but it's an organic progression of the band if anything. There are hints of their previous work in the new songs but I never get the sense they are going over old ground. Besides, Coldplay on their best day couldn't write a song as interesting or exciting as the weakest track on this album.

Coldplay have written plenty of boring music like on this album. It is a massive disappointment - if the progression you are referring to is from alternate to mainstream then they have succeeded in a massive way!

Top 10 (no particular order)

TV on the Radio - Dear Science

Nox Arcana - Grimm Tales (Dark Ambient/Darkwave/Gothic Horror - new type of music that opened a whole new genre to my ears)

The Magnetic Fields - Distortion
James - Hey Ma
M83 - Saturdays=Youth
Bang Gang - Ghosts from the Past
Shearwater - Rook
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree

Nortt - Galgenfrist (First 'Funeral Doom Metal' album I have listened to and I likes it. Similar to Nox Arcana in that it has opened new doors of music to me)

Albums on the cusp of making it ...

Opeth - Watershed
f**k Buttons - Street Horrsing
The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
Yann Tiersen - Tabarly
The Black Keys - Attack & Release
Black Mountain - In the Future
A Silver Mt. Zion - 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons
Why? - Alopecia

I think Ryan Adams & The Cardinals - Cardinology will probably be at the top of my list once it comes out in a few weeks.

The songs they have been playing live are awesome.

Found a new one which is growing on me, for people who like power metal, try Galneryus' new album 'Reincarnation' it's good.
Alice Cooper's 'Along Came A Spider' is too, as is Blaze Bayley's 'The Man Who Would Not Die'.
Oh...any mention for Flight Of The Conchords? =P
I found the Bloc Party album really disappointing honestly.
