1. William Zillman/Bronx Goodwin/Marshall Chalk
2. Colin Best
3. Phil Graham
4. Craig Frawley/Adrian Purtell
5. David Howell/Adrian Purtell
6. Todd Carney
7. Michael Dobson/Andrew Dunemann
8. Scott Logan (112 kg)
9. Lincoln Withers/Andrew Dunemann
10. Troy Thompson (106 kg)
11. Matt Bickerstaff (100 kg)
12. Neville Costigan (100 kg)
13. Alan Tongue (87 kg)

14. Josh Miller (99 kg)
15. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs (110 kg)
16. Dane Tilse (112 kg)
17. Michael Weyman (112 kg)

Trevor Thurling (only 99 kg, but he looks huge), Alan Rothery (103 kg), Ben Jones, Adrian Purtell, Andrew Dunemann as the primary depth in the key areas. Though with Tom LL being out till later next year, Miller to starting backrow & Thurling onto the bench. Still a huge pack, even without Croker (100kg), Kahler (100kg), Williams (117kg), Raston (107kg), & Hodgson (102 kg). Fearsome.

Having Bickerstaff and Costigan in the backrow gives us to of the hardest hitting forwards in the game. Some of the hits Bickerstaff has pulled off this year have been inpressive and Costigan has always been able to lead with his shoulder

League_fan, you're assuming Williams and Raston are definitely leaving?? It's only rumours at this stage it seems...

But yes I largely agree with your team.

Some valid points have been raised re: Dobson, he will have got a truckload of experience over in the ESL this season salvaging the season of two clubs. He's done well from all reports... hopefully it translates into NRL form. Did he and Carney play together much?

GE hates Dobbo because he never hyped him as 'the next big thing'. In fact it is the most amusing thing about GE these days, he has a genuine dislike for Dobbo for some reason.

7. Dobbo
6. Carney

That'd be sweet.

i'm pretty sure i remember reading one of greeneyed's posts stating that he thought dobbo was probably the best prospect coming through. so there ed! but maybe he changed his mind, or perhaps i'm losing mine..

I voted Zillman cause I have decided it is better to have Carney at five eighth....

I can't understand how people want Dobson in the team in front of Zillman and Carney tbh...

Honestly, I think it is bizarre that people who have heard reports of Dobson in ESL which is just one step above PL barely decide he is a lot better than Carney? When Carney has now proven himself if firsts and Dobson has never played ONE match in NRL?

And then they have NEVER seen Dobson play in PL OR ESL!!!!!

No Poida, you're not going crazy. But the thing that GE's almost never failed to mention is that Dobson's injury prone.

Tim Smith is two years older than Carney too..... I think we have three great young halves coming through. Carney, Dobson and Zillman...... Campese will morph into a lock. The only problem with Dobson is that he appears injury prone. Other clubs would kill for this young talent coming through. The question is this: Do we have the talent in the coaching ranks to bring them through? IMO, we need a specialist halves coach to be brought into the lineup. McFadden doesn't count, IMO. We need a halves coach of the likes of Daley.

Both Dobson and Zillman are no doubt future stars, playing very well in the Flegg team. Dobson has been out a bit with injury though this season. Zillman was electric on Saturday afternoon.
Dobson's a great prospect for us, and he's certainly been one of the primary reasons Wigan improved in the 2nd half of the season, escaping relegation, but in 14 games for them this season he only scored 5 tries (3 of which were in the one game, and all appearing in the last 3 weeks of the season). His organisational skills are what most impress me, as well as his goal-kicking - 57 from 66 attempts (86.4%) is an awesome stat.

Agree 100%

Chucking Zillman and Carney into the halves is all good and well, but where are we going to get any organisation from??? Carney hasn't shown the ability to organise a team in the oppositions 20 at all, and most people here to not regard Zillman as having solid organisational skills. I think a Carney/Zillman combo would be the same as McFadden/McLinden. They'll be moments of individual brilliance on a regular basis, but the team will never perform on a consistently.

GE definitely rates Dobson, has for along time, i was a little sus on him back in the days but he was working me around big time with his performances just before sustaining a horrific knee injury (from memory both ACL joints in his knee's at the one time)

Dobson should be our organisational half, let him steer the team and give the team a 2nd 5th tackle option, then let carney focus on his running game and linking up with the backs. Zillman off the bench for some game breaking play on tired and lazy forwards, with no standard position at all, a roving half/fullback role as what Bowen does for attack at NTH QLD... defend him either right smack bang in the middle of the ruck (ie between all the big boys) or out on the wing

To me, Carney's earned his place in the starting line-up, but in the 6. I'd start Dobbo in the 7 next season, as he's got a lot more experience than Zillman against top sides. Goodwin's also had a lot more experience at fullback this season than either Zillman or Chalk, so I'd start him there too, and leave it for them to prove to the coach why they should be given the spot.

I am happy to sit back and wait to see what happens. It is good to have so many unknowns and competition for spots so we could be speculating for 6 months!

I will throw 1 thing in though. Zillman appears to be a victim of his own versatility and ability. My opinion on watching the players we are shuffling around and debating about is that Zillman is actually the most talented footy player of the lot of them, including Carney. The difference is that he can play a variety of roles rather than just halves or wing for example, so people are chucking him a spot after they have decided on the other 16 places in 1st's. It is easy to say that he doesn't have the experience of some of the others but realistically he has barely been given a chance at all. For me, I will be watching as much pre-season and reading as much about how they line up at training for an indication of what is to come. My view is that you pick Zillman in his prefered position, whatever that may be, then accommodate others rather than the other way around. I have faith that Henry will work it out fairly quickly anyway, if he doesn't then it probably means that we are off to a good start :D

Who needs a try scoring halfback when Carney SR is up their with the backs. We definitely need an organising half which is what we've been lacking for far too long.

:?

Where did I say that?

In any case, I have been watching the form of Dobson long before most of you even heard his name.

I certainly do rate him, but as Jed has pointed out, I have been concerned about his injury record for a long time. Good to see that hasn't been a problem this year. I'm also not convinced that out of these three players - Carney, Zillman and Dobson - he is in the top two in terms of talent. I'll be happy to be proven wrong... and I definitely want to see him retained at the club and extended. It is just that I'm not sure he is in the top two halves at the club.

I agree with Woodgers that Zillman is probably the most talented of all three of them. So I really wouldn't want to see him shifted aside for either of the other two....

Way too many different players fighting it out for different positions. it is an exciting time for sure. like woodgers, im inclined to see how the pre-season goes before i pick our starting line up for next season.

Any word on who we will be playing in the trials?

Normally we have one match vs Jim Beam/Pub sides at Queanbeyan and two NRL fixtures...

Two trials in Queensland I read thickos, one at Towoomba against the Broncos, and another against Wests Tigers at Souths Logan.

After hearing recent comments by Henry regarding the team line-up, I've decided to have a crack after all.

1. Goodwin
2. Best/Chalk/Howell/Purtell
3. Zillman
4. Graham
5. Best/Chalk/Howell/Purtell
6. Carney
7. Dobson
8. Logan
9. Withers
10. Thompsom
11. Learoyd-Lahrs
12. Costigan
13. Tongue (c)

14. Dunemann
15. Bickerstaff
16. Miller
17. Weyman

Only thing I couldn't decide on was the wings.

Let's not forget Brett Kelly and Steve Irwin as well. They may be pushin' for a few spots.
