Brookvale Oval will be fitted out with a new digital scoreboard and additional corporate seating after the State Government abnd Warringah Shire Council announced a funding injection of $600,000.
NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation,Morris Jemma and Warringah Shire Council Mayor,Julie Sutton delivered the good news personally to the media and members of the Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval today.
The funding will ensure the ground is upgraded further in another step to make the ground one which can serve all sports on the northern beaches.
"Brookvale Oval is a famous ground and has much history in Rugby league wwhich will now be built on.However, the State Government would like to see more football codes played at Brookvale and for it to become the home of elite sport on the north shore - this is simply a step along the way to that end,"Mr.Jemma said.
Sea Eagles Chief Executive Ian Thomson said the new scoreboard should be in operation around May of the 2003 season.
"This will give the ground a new look and the new open corporate boxes in the Jane Try Stand will be very popular with new sponsors for Rugby League and other codes.
"For too long now the people on the northern beaches have been neglected in sporting facilities and this shows we are changing the trend.
"The Sea Eagles would like nothing better than for the surface to be upgraded so Rugby League, soccer and rugby union can share an outstanding facility,"Mr.Thomson said.
Warringah Shire Council Mayor Julie Sutton said she was personally delighted that the Sea Eagles were back home full time.
"They are my team like they are the community's team and the Council has always been keen to support the club wherever possible,"she said.
