Where now for Barba ?

Can only think Barba comes on as super-sub at the expense of Robbo but still not comfortable with it. As much flak as he cops here he guides the team well and is one hell of a defender.

Gordon being our best player over the last 2 years is a bit far fetched?

He was our best player last year in a rabble of a side and I think the year before our best player was Andrew Fifita by a country mile.

This is a business not a f**kin charity. No wonder the cabinet is empty

I don't let my prejudice get in the way of what's logical.

This is the same shit as everyone wanting Heighington gone a couple of weeks ago.

No chance in hell that Barba doesn't retain the 6.

He played three games with a new team, during which time we sucked.

Three years ago he was simply the most electrifying player on the planet.

Pretty sure you give him more than three games with our mob.

Putting this one out there. Did anyone else notice Bird wing-manning it all the way on the Val Holmes break up the field. It looked like there was at least 2 maybe 3 pass to Bird opportunities I might be wrong. Val didn't seem like he had any intention to off-load but at the same time Bird could have been demanding it.

True ... Barba WAS the most electrifying player in the league three seasons ago. The fact is he ISN'T now.

Barba was given 26 second chances last year at the Broncos, and never came good. The fact is, he's on big money with the Sharks, as he was with Brisbane, and he has lost his edge and commitment.

There is only one way up for Barba, and that is DOWN. He needs to get a reality check, and that check is waiting for him in the lower grades.

I would say he needs an extended time in the lower grades and must only be allowed back in first grade through merit. If he doesn't perform in the NSW Cup he simply doesn't get promoted.

I saw the reasoning, I didn't necessarily agree with it.

I also said the fapping over a kid who had barely played first grade was over the top as well.

That's because it was, This past Sunday was the first good game Val has played for us and has earned his spot.

But at the time, Mitch brown was a Grand final winger.

I estimate he would be on around $600,000+ a year or $11.5+ thousand dollars a week before tax.

Yes Broncs kick in I understand but as a total sum.

How long do you give a professional sportsman on that wage time to find his groove?

?

If I was on that kind of money I would be finding it pretty quick.

FORMER Dally M medallist Ben Barba looks set to become the highest paid bench player in the NRL with reports the Sharks coach Shane Flanagan will stick with young guns Jack Bird and Valentine Holmes.

Haha the first good game he has played for us.

Yes it was his first game at fullback for us.

Go figure.

And for the record Kris Keating is a grand final halfback and Shannon Hegarty is a grand final winger so what's your point?

Val has to stay at fullback and unlike some people on here, I like the idea of Gordon swapping for Holmes. That sort of set up has been done plenty of times before. It doesn't last forever.

Yep, I've been wanting Holmes and Gordon to be playing the Minicello/RTS approach last year.

Gordon still has so much to offer, especially to a young player like Holmes. I hope the club looks at keeping Gordon on the books in a coaching capacity. Could be useful to younger players, even just for inspiration of dealing with injury setbacks.

Did you hear Ivan clearly saying his young players are only just finding out 1st grade
is not all it's cut out to be.

You fill a team with young under 20's superstars and it will end ugly.

It has to be an almost perfect mix

1. Holmes
2. Gordon
3. Beale
4. Leutele
5. Feki
6. Bird
7. Robson

14. Barba

Was reading your backline & it looks good. I do subscribe to the theory of "don't change a winning team".

However, I'm just concerned if Barba is off the bench, who does he replace?

I don't think it can be Robson, the last thing we need Barba to do is guide the team around the park, he's a runner, not an organiser.

He's obviously not playing near his best & I put a lot of that down to lack of confidence. I think we need to put him in the team somewhere where he can run, with no pressure to set up others.

Fullback or centre are the only options. Got to leave the fullback to Val (& Gordon), so centre it is, occasionally swapping with Bird.

When he regains confidence, which he will if we keep winning, I'd put him in 5/8th & Bird into his more favoured position of centre.
