we the NRL could arrange an NRL game in PERTH each weekend, including all teams,
it could be named the NRL PROMOTION MATCH.
could include Adelaide, even Darwin. Hobart
where a match each round is played in 1 of these cities to promote NRL
all teams could be compensated for losing a home game
but gain in getting more fans
just thinking out of the square
any other ideas >??

If a club is struggling in its own market it would make sense to adopt Perth as a second home. TBoon came up with a really good idea, suggesting the Tigers become the Western Tigers and play half their games in Perth and half in Western Sydney Stadium. I reckon that is a great idea and the best opportunity for Perth. No pokies in Perth, so this would give them a lifeline.

Maybe a Magic Round for Perth at Perth Stadium on top of having the Tigers play six games at Perth Oval. It will draw tourists from eastern states, which will appeal to the WA Government.

The best team to move to Perth would be the Tigers.
The Western Tigers has a great ring to it.
They could play 8 games in Perth (this is all Perth is worthy of given recent crowds they pull) and 4 at Bank West. That would become the biggest club in the NRL.
why tigers, why just the tigers, why put all pressure on tigers, it should be an NRL promotion, including all teams, to play in Perth

Reaped the rewards how many afl people have the storm converted over to League most of their supporter base are kiwis and ex New South Wales residents...I tell yeah most Victorians could not care less about the Storm, the Storm is so popular it doesn’t even make back pages in their newspaper’s

have you seen the melbourne tv audience when storm are in it?

Storm have been around for 22 years now. They've had plenty of time to develop the game at the grassroots level. Until a born and raised junior comes through the VRL system and becomes a regular player for the Storm, we can say the experiment has failed.

thats not the storms job, that’s the job of the nrl and nrlvic. The storms job is to put a winning nrl squad on the field. On that they are doing a tremendous job

would be better to give PERTH its own club and move manly part time to Brisbane. They’ve got plenty of fans up there and hardly any fans in manly so win win. Gives chance to see if anyone e in Brisbane wants another team or if they are all rusted on broncos fans. I’m sure they won’t mind.

No way, tigers already are a merger, and play out of leichardt, campbelltown, and bankwest, asking them to move 6 games to Perth isn't going to happen unless they are permanently relocated on their own.
Souths should just continue to take 2-3 matches there, or divide it between all teams as mentioned here before

They have "West" in their name and are already a nomadic club. Games they play at Campbelltown against interstate teams draw low crowds. Taking these games to Perth would be a good way of boosting their crowd average, gives Perth a team that has "Western" in its name and has the "black and gold" colours associated with Western Australia.

Wouldn't it be better to relocate Manly to Gosford so they can finally have a decent stadium?

Central Coast Sea Eagles has a nice ring to it.

You're always talking about downsizing Sydney. Well here's your chance to do it without destroying Sydney clubs. Relocating Manly to Gosford and Wests to Perth keeps these clubs and alive and expands the game's footprint in regional NSW and Perth. Western Australians cannot complain about that. The Sydney Swans are a relocated South Melbourne team. Brisbane Lions are a merger between Bears and Fitzroy Lions.

One thing that as stood out like dog nuts during the lockdown is how much better games look when they're not played at run down suburban grounds. Central Coast Stadium, Perth Oval, Western Sydney Stadium, Lang Park, Townsville Stadium, Melbourne Rectangular Stadium and Robina Stadium are all world class venues.

West Coast Tigers and Central Coast Sea Eagles sounds like a decent plan. It gives the Tigers one home and still allows their Sydney fans to watch them play in Sydney many times a year. It gives Manly a quality stadium and both moves help decongest Sydney whilst not killing the brand from the NRL and alienating fans.

Then the Sydney Roosters could position themselves to be the club of the affluent Northern and Eastern suburbs of Sydney playing out of Moore Park. Something the Swans and Waratahs manage to do quite successfully.

Most of Melbourne's fans are Queenslanders who've probably never even been to Victoria. They are the ones watching Melbourne and they're doing it because they want a team that isn't the bloody Donkeys. The Cowboys weren't far behind the Storm in 3rd spot. That's because they are another club that have been adopted by people in Brisbane who hate the Donkeys.

Thanks for confirming the importance of the Sharks in the Tv ratings. And the importance off Queensland expansion with their teams. The importance of the Qld influence with the Storm.
Damn those suburban Sydney NRL clubs, they just have decent numbers of interested viewers.Who woulda thought?

Interesting to see the high ratings for STV in the Sunday early evening timeslot. A perfect timeslot for a Perth game, afternoon in Perth meaning big crowds, evening on East coast meaning big audience. I might write to Vlandys seeing as he is listening to fans letters.

Should always be careful reading stats! My feeling is that timeslot, how the team are playing and star player appeal are just as big an influencer as how many fans follow that club. I know I now only watch 3-4 games a week and pick and choose depending on the match ups. For example wont be tuning in to Dragons and Roosters game but def watching Eels v Raiders. Also If the teams playing well, got some popular players in it and its on FTA regularly then by nature you will be drawing bigger audiences. In many ways the STV audiences are probably a better indicator as all clubs are on and time slots have less impact, and when you look at those figures the gap is much smaller between clubs (around low of 210k-high of 250k).

One thing that the AFL got right IMO was that their relocations were to NON-AFL centres. I don't think Adelaide or Perth in the early 1980s would have accepted a transplanted South Melbourne Swans, in the same way I seriously doubt a relocated Sydney NRL team would be accepted in Brisbane.

I guess the sticking point is that WA has put a lot of effort into establishing their own bid brand in the West Coast Pirates (I'm unsure whether any similar moves were made in Sydney to join the VFL in the early 80s, before the Swans became the option?)... the key question then becomes "if relocation is the *only* way into the NRL, is WA willing to sacrifice their bid brand for a place in the competition?"

All of that would have an impact.
