Who replaces Cappy?

i dont know. not having discretion leads you down a path where you have the Jamie Lyon incident where he was basically diving to get the penalty knowing that the bunker would look at the video and see the letter of the law. I understand what you are saying where it makes it simpler, but is it better?

It seems similar to the evolution of scoring a try from 10 years ago.
It used to be that there needed to be downward pressure on a try but now all you need is to have simultaneous contact with the ball at the moment it touches the ground and that constitutes a try. A fingernail on the ball with no downward pressure still constitutes a try. Call me old fashioned but in my eyes thats not a try.

Yes valid points for both sides of the argument. I didn't see the Lyon dive btw.

But as an aside, how is it actually physically possible to not have downward pressure on a ball if your fingernail is on said ball? With any amount of contact, that immediately means some amount of pressure, albiet miniscule sometimes. Trying to judge downward pressure is a myth, unless you have all sorts of fancy instruments - certainly way too arbitrary for the naked eye and dumbazz munter refs.

I think now we can get an accurate gauge of McFad's coaching abilities, something that we never got to see of Elliott or maybe even Bluey for that matter.

Imagine as a coach dealing with a sizeable gang in the club consisting of prats, divas, clowns, guys with serious substance issues, all of the above etc. This gang is anywhere between 4-8 players who are usually taking the field together. They're larger than life, stopped listening when Uncle Ivan left, basically do whatever the f*ck they want, if they feel like an "off week" or clocking off when they're 0-6, then so be it.

No coach can easily combat that, esp when the problem is that size and the coach themselves are inexperienced or don't command the respect of Bellamy/Bennett. And it could explain why quality players like RTS, Hoff, Luke, Mannering end up running around like headless chooks because half the team is playing for themselves. Could even explain SJ's bizarre non-performances, maybe he chooses to phone it in when nobody is behind him on that day.

Don't know, I only speculate, but now that we have really isolated the problem, we might see this group finally start to play towards potential. Last week was like watching a different team altogether.

I absolutely hear what you're saying, but I think we saw who Bluey in particular was as a coach, and to an extent who McFadden is as well. Elliott, we knew before he came here.

Bluey just absolutely lost that playing group from almost day one by not working them hard enough in pre-season, trying to be their mate, de-emphasizing defence and generally gaining no respect from the group with what he was doing. There were some shit heads in that side, no doubt. But Bluey was out of his depth.

Elliott, he actually got some level of results out of us. We won 6 in a row I believe during his tenure, won in NQ where we hadn't for 12-13 years, etc. He is a fringe top 8 coach, and proved to be so. We always knew that.

McFadden, firstly I should say he was not ready to be an NRL coach and that's on Scurrah for making not only the decision to appoint him, but also to extend his contract. He wasn't ready and he's not much closer - and yes, absolutely 100% that could be attributable to the attitudes of the playing group. I think McFadden could be a good coach in the future, he's not yet 40 so he has years on his side. He is a person of the highest moral standing and attitude by the looks, but there's so much in the way he prepares this side for game day that is just not good. The use of the bench, irregular use of minutes with big players - Ben the worst example but that might be chicken and egg with his attitude - positional switches, then lack of structure and clear game plan which again, could be chicken and egg.

We'll see how he goes the couple of weeks before the bye. Last week was absolutely no guide, the Dragons are a rabble of a side as are 3 of the 4 sides we've beaten. The Raiders and Panthers are made of sterner stuff and will definitely be eyeing us as two points.

And are we going to get an accurate gauge of McF's coaching when it's pretty likely that at least Ben, Bodene and one or two of Albert and Sam will come back, if not Manu? I mean, do we expect they'll just be good boys and fit back in?

So Elliott suspected/knew? I must be getting really old, because I didn't realise this was a societal problem - that's line buffoonish professional athletes trot out when they are exposed...

Again, I am no McFadden fan - but good on him and Doyle for tackling this head on, that's leadership... now for some coaching, and some on field consistency

Huge difference now... no Scurrah or Dean Bell.

That was scarcely believable... I still struggle with it - perhaps Scurrah was combining sleeping pills and energy drinks too?

Scurrah was a marketer. Absolutely nil idea how to lead a football organisation in terms of on-field. In fact I think he came to us from North Harbour Stadium (not the rugby team) correct? So he was completely out of his depth in the role, apart from selling jerseys. Fell in a bowl of dicks and came out sucking a boob with Cleary, but managed to still f**k that up over time.

So when Cappy won a few early games, Scurrah not knowing the psychological effects of a new coach in terms of results, locked him in long-term without really knowing a thing about him and the coach he'd be. And you'd imagine with no pressure from other clubs chasing him. Insanity.

I've been hearing rumours for a few months now about the future of Des Hasler at the Dogs. Was quick to dismiss them as part of the bs-section of the mill, but they aren't going away - they're getting more and more traction. RLW are the latest to say there's a movement to remove Hasler.

If there's a chance... I don't give two f**ks about stability compared to a coach of that calibre. Do whatever it takes. Hasler is a bloke who is well noted to want heavy investment in sports science and a big football program - who can afford that better than us? Nobody, certainly none that are likely in the market for a coach in the near future (Souths aside, though I don't believe Maguire is actually on the nose there - they'll dump the gutless secretly whinging players first). He's a guy who might actually be a chance of coming here, given the right circumstances.

I agree. I'd move heaven and f**king earth.

I'd prefer Toovey because he'd blow the doors off, but Des will do.

What's his situation with wife, kids, family etc.

They'd be older by now, surely. Candidate for dumb post of the year, but you get what I mean - old enough to tend for themselves.

Hell, I'd probably even have Anthony Griffin right now. He coached the pants off our guy last weekend and seems to be uniting that side pretty well. Although he'd probably be undermined the minute he arrived in Auckland, or even before via Twitter.

JUST GIVE US SOMEONE. OUR GUY SUCKS

Change the title of this thread to "WILL they replace Cappy?". The fire he was in at the start of the year is now reduced to smoke as there's no more talk in the media about his axing.

Were 12th on the table and we have good players but that doesn't make sense. Maybe the coach can't piece the puzzle together, maybe the players are underperforming, maybe the opposition is too good, maybe it's a combination of things....there's just too much factors at play here.

We will always be "External Noise" to the Warriors. And I don't blame them as they are the only ones that can get out of this. We wanna fire this person and we want to buy this person blah blah blah. Cappy and co came into this mess trying to do the best to get the joint fizzing again. Another coach besides Cleary for this mob would NOT work. Due to player power and our way over here no other coach would be able handle that drama. Its Cappy or Cleary. At this stage all are onboard at Warriors HQ that Cappy is the man for it

Question to everyone here. Would Cappy be a good or even considered a great coach if he somehow manage to get us our Maiden Premiership?

I don't really hate or dislike the guy. I just don't like some of his team selections and I guess Im going to get that with other coaches as well.

If he turned the season around and the Warriors played like a well drilled side (e.g. Storm) as well as win the premiership, then Cappy will go from zero to hero everywhere. At this stage, it'll be a Hollywood tale if that happened, not saying it's not possible.

I'd say a good coach and only if we win.
