Another sniff of the the top-eight has probably jinxed our chances again this weekend.

We really are eight-shy, ay? How many places did we hurtle down the ladder by losing last weekend?

Could have been 7th I think, huge jam log
Top four are miles clear of us though, quality and ladder

I don't really hate or dislike the guy. I just don't like some of his team selections and I guess Im going to get that with other coaches as well.

If he turned the season around and the Warriors played like a well drilled side (e.g. Storm) as well as win the premiership, then Cappy will go from zero to hero everywhere. At this stage, it'll be a Hollywood tale if that happened, not saying it's not possible.

I'd say a good coach and only if we win.

I like the guy as a person. And I hold no animosity towards him that he was given control of an NRL side when he was nowhere near ready for it, then has been continually backed in a role he is clearly no good at. Look at his bench make-up and usage, his lack of structure and inability to get anything decent out of our spine, particularly the halves - a position he played NRL in. I know the players are unprofessional in acting up but they did it because they have no belief in what the coach is doing. That didn't happen under Ivan, Knobby Locke aside.

Let's remember that of our last 17 games, we have won 4. Four. Less than 25%.

So it's too implausible to start thinking whether he'd go from zero to hero. We won't make the eight. Leicester winning the EPL at 5000s was more probable. I'd wager my left one that McFadden will go at the end of the year, with worse records than probably every Warriors coach apart from Kemp and Graham.

The ladder is starting to sort itself now. There's 4 genuine contenders (Cows, Broncs, Storm, Sharks), 3 sides I'd call top 8 quality but not real contenders (Dogs, Panthers and Eels, though the latter are f@cksd for points now), and 3 sides that are close to gone (Knights, Tigers and chooks, though the latter should make up some ground). Everyone else is mid table mediocre, including us.

We won't make the eight.

Why'd you have to say that? I was having a good day.

I mean...we're a chance I guess. You'd figure the top 5 are certainties. The Eels are obviously going to drop out. The Panthers, they play with heart so I'd think they'd be very good chances. The Rabbits are a better football side than us. So there's probably 7.

The Dragons, they're not going to make it. They absolutely suck and it's incredible that they're in the 8 when they have scored 105 points all year - 70 less than anyone other than the hapless Knights. The Raiders, Titans and Sea Eagles are all very bog average but could get there if they go on a run. In fact, this weekend might be a really good guide as to where we are. We lost to Penrith, convincingly, and so are not near a top 6 side. Lose to the Raiders and we're not a top 8 side either.

Seriously, it's about the easiest year to make the finals in living memory, and we'd probably be overs to do so. It's incredible. Incredibly bad.

It's worth casting our mind back to this:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/67033690/warriors-boss-jim-doyle-makes-his-own-luck

He's measured (but) - no, he won't make any outlandish declarations about winning premierships.

"No, the NRL is the toughest competition in the world." But, he says, the top-eight every year is a reasonable minimum and they should be pushing for the top four too.

AND

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/league/63238850/new-warriors-boss-jim-doyle-lays-down-his-law

New Warriors managing director Jim Doyle has started his tenure with fighting talk, saying the club must make the playoffs and expect to improve every year.

"Not making the eight is just not acceptable. There's no reason why the Warriors shouldn't be making the eight and we should be pushing for higher than that. Each year we expect to get better."

"Every one of the other 15 clubs in Australia see the Warriors as the sleeping giant they just need to be woken up and they should be able to deliver.

"There is no reason why the Warriors shouldn't always be contending, always be in the top four and winning premierships every now and again.

"The good thing for me is that the Warriors certainly have the potential (to win a premiership)."

It's just a waiting game, waiting for results or waiting for replacement.
It won't happen during the season.
Wait for end of year review.
But excellent reminder of statements on public record.

End of year would be far to late and extremely difficult to put a front foot forward for 2017. Id say if Warriors lose to raiders this weekend then the Warriors will be well and truly backed into a corner and forced to begin a severe restructure of the club.

What truly scares me and worries me is the amount of 2nd/3rd rate Australian players signed and starting for the Warriors. Essentially guys who just were not rated or wanted anymore getting starts and careers at the warriors and selected week in week out.

Jono wright should be struggling to break into the reserve grade side but he is a guaranteed pick every week in first grade.

Damming, either taken wit ha pinch of salt as purpose hurt to get back at cappy from RFM or Cappy straight out is the wrong man to be the head motivator of the Warriors.

Warriors need a leader with Mana and BALLS!

No thanks to Stacey.

Cappy currently at 54 matches, 23 wins 31 losses (42%). Of those 23 wins, 5 were over sides who made the eight that year (that might skyrocket to 6 if/when the Dogs make it this year).

Man why were we not patient for Belamy a few years back, that Storm team is a great team.
Would say we could do with their defensive coach, but we can see how that played out.

Young guys step up, can lose their top fullback and the new young guy steps up, a controlling half, minimal errors, have more than 1 option in attack

Make me think if Kearney could of obsorbed some of Bellamy and Bennett, he might be worth a crack if no one else will come.

Been thinking about this, sticking to McFad might be a blessing in disguise, at least in the short term.

We've had three coaches, each horrible failures.
The constant in all this is the players, certain players in particular.

We can't keep blaming and dumping coaches, the problem is internal. Yes the coaches haven't been of particular quality, but how can a team with this much talent be this pathetic over four entire seasons?

I think the only solution left is to do something similar to the 06/07 rebuilding, shed away a large group, build a new nucleus and start again.

Ivan set us up perfectly when he left in 2011, a grand final team almost entirely of young grassroots. We blew it. Time to move on for good.
