Who replaces Cappy?

Surely Doyle is deep in negotiations with Cleary and Toovey right now. two solid, NRL experienced coaches on the market- we'd be nuts to put up with this for more than a couple more weeks.

I dont buy the "Warriors=coach killers" line. Look at the history:

Monie: NRL proven coach, did OK in first season, came undone during Super League.
Endacott: No top level record, went on to do OK in England
Graham: No previous top level experience, went nowhere
Anderson: Had initial success, things turned sour, went to Parra and pretty much repeated the pattern
Kemp: promoted assistant who did bugger-all and went nowhere
Cleary: Promoted from lower grades and established himself as an NRL coach.
McLennan: Had good ESL record that was in hindsight better than it looked because he had a team of superstars that coached itself. Failed abysmally.
Elliot: Established mediocre NRL coach who got mediocre results
McFadden: unproven promoted assistant coach who initially got made to look good by the standard Warriors mid-season surge but who looks to have nothing.

Out of that mob who have the Warriors actually "killed"? Monie maybe, and on paper McLennan but it's pretty obvious he was a fraud. Anderson looked that way but given his record at Parra its pretty clear he's a flawed talent (good coach, crap man-manager). Cleary did well but got the shrift due to a collossal management f**k up. The rest are/were numpties.

Monie wasn't exactly a star NRL coach, winning record of 59% with a great Parramatta side he inherited... then obviously a winner at Wigan...

I imagine Sterling, Price, Cronin, and Kenny pretty much coached themselves tbh...

But yeah, agree with you 100%... we've had pretty mediocre coaches, Anderson and Clearly were excellent pick ups, the rest pretty f**ktards - worry is in most cases that was known before they were appointed to coach the Warriors

Cappy's contact is up at the end of the year?
If he is doing his job he will be scouting the best options available to the club.

If available could he start in a different job title by name but be the head coach? Or Cappy move backwards but not sacked?

If we got a Toovey on the hook willing to sign a contract, then there is no issue with the perception of not being able to sign a top level coach.

Oops, Bald white fulla by name Robson.
Had a better game last night with his hands, but gets caught out on defense.
But Hoffman's mistake was much worse.

lol I am not used to Robson being in the team, so didn't pick it up...

I was probably being kind to Monie so as not to look like I was trying to twist facts to prove a point. Fact is we've pretty much never signed proven coaching talent. 2 of our Hail Marys have paid off, that's not that terrible.

Apparently (I didn't see it) Toovey was on 360 with an attitude that he'd not enjoyed the experience and politics of coaching at Manly, and at the moment was over it and would rather pursue an admin/development sort of role. That's not someone I'd be looking at.

However, yes I agree - surely we are with Cleary, or even a Maguire who may want a new challenge in 2017 (if Morgan would be caretaker). If we lose our next 4-5-6 McFadden's job is not tenable and a contingency plan needs to be rolling already, if only to have asked Ivan what his thoughts are and stand by the phone.

Hugh McGahan, who I cannot stand as a columnist and don't respect his opinions much at all, said last year's 8 losses are irrelevant, it's a new squad. Rubbish. It's 10 losses in a row to this coach. TEN. Read that...TEN. What's the record? Must be close. It's almost time, and a win in round 4 over an absolutely hopeless Knights side shouldn't mean shit. Someone nailed it in another thread, McFadden got appointed by timing via our usual mid-season head out of arse and has done nothing else.

We should have had a look at Nathan Brown before Newcastle got in and signed him. He has the right idea at Newcastle and is dropping players who aren't performing or who are breaking rules. With a roster like ours he could have worked wonders.

Toovey could be pulling a swifty to drive up a price?
If Maguire is available I would take him for sure as my number 2 pick behind Belamy who is out of the contest.
Some locker room footage looks like he knows how to rip in.
South have had a record scoring start all be it both at home and against average teams (on par with us v tigers).

Need to create a list and get a mod to edit this tread into a poll.
I'm sure it will be going until our mid season form pickup or Cappy replaced.

Just watching the qld cup. Geez you could do worse than trying out the walker brothers for the rest of the season. Even if you weren't winning at least it would be fun to watch.

I've been keeping tabs on the Walker brothers, ...no thrills dothe basics well ethos, I just wonder how that would correlate to the Warriors. Garth Brennan is another that deserves a look at.

I don't know if that's how I would describe the Walker brothers style myself.

The Walkers encourage players to play like we did in 2002/2003, but take it a bit too far IMO to properly translate to NRL as it currently stands.

They lost today comfortably after leading at halftime. The short kicksoff are fun, but they were scored on early, short kick off, opposition go back to back immediately.

There are certain things they'd have to adjust for sure to have an impact on the NRL and after everything we've gone through as a club I'm not convinced Doyle would be willing to take on the experiment.

I can't really disagree with that..as you say, it would be entertaining.

Meanwhile Stacey's team

The New Zealand Warriors completely blew the Wests Tigers away in sweltering conditions with a comprehensive 38-6 victory at Leichhardt Oval.
Ali Lauitiiti wound the clock back and put in a scintillating performance, scoring a try, setting up another, plus making a 60-metre linebreak against the run of play.
Warriors halfback Ata Hingano was in control for the entire 80-minutes, while Matthew Allwood impressed with a two-try performance. Albert Vete and Upu Poching did a fantastic job in the front-row, especially considering the tough conditions.
On the other hand, the Tigers had an afternoon to forget, as they looked nothing like the team that defeated the heavily experienced Manly side just last weekend.
The opening 10 minutes saw a scoreless game, but that nil-all score-line did not reflect the actual contest. The Warriors were all over the Wests Tigers, playing percentage and error free footy while dominating field position.
Deservedly, the Warriors opened the scoring in the 12th minute after Ata Hingano took on the line before a late pass allowed Matthew Allwood to crash over.
Perhaps the sweltering heat can be used as an excuse for the following events that took place at Leichhardt Oval, as Hingano took a long time to attempt his conversion after not being able to find a ball, before Josh Drinkwater could not find his tee for the kick-off.
The Tigers earned back-to-back penalties that finally gave them decent field position, but the chance was blown when Rod Griffin could not handle a Drinkwater short ball close to the line.
If the fans in the stadium were upset with the previous spoiled chance, the next one a matter of minutes later would have had them fuming.
Jeremy Marshall-King made a linebreak with Drinkwater in support, which created a two-on-one. Marshall-King drew in the fullback and passed, but Drinkwater dropped what was a certain try in front of an open goal-line.
Things went from bad-to-worse for the Wests Tigers, when Chance Peni dropped a bomb while looking into the sun from the following set, before Jazz Tevaga took advantage of some poor marker defence by darting over untouched from dummy half.
The Warriors were further rewarded for their continuous field position and discipline, when a massive overlap allowed Hingano to pass for the veteran, Lauitiiti, to extend the lead to 16-0.
Konrad Hurrell stamped his authority in the match when he picked up a loose ball and ran 80-metres against the run of play, and passed the ball for 14 to score due to speed-star Josh Addo-Carr being hot on his tail.
That try was on the stroke of halftime, and they went into the sheds with a 20-point lead.
It was incredibly hot and he’s 36-year-old, but that did not stop Lauitiiti picking up a rebounded ball and making a 60-metre dash downfield before being caught by Drinkwater. This led to another four-pointer when Erin Clark kicked for an un-marked Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad on the left wing.
Lauitiiti was involved again off the kick-off set when he gave a ball for Allwood to run away and step through some fractured Tigers defence and score his second try of the afternoon to increase the lead to 32-0.
The Wests Tigers finally restored some pride through Jacob Liddle, when he showed tremendous speed to break through the line and score a run-away try.
With just his second touch of the ball, Patrick Sipley showed incredible strength to score his first try of the season under the posts while carrying defenders on his back.
Another big Warriors forward refused to miss out on the points flourish, as with just under nine minutes remaining, Vete crashed over and put the ball down almost exactly where the last try was scored to make the final score 44-6.

That's some game. In the first paragraph the final score was 38-6, by the closing one it was 44-6.

44-6 was the score.

That's great, Stacey will have a great year coaching that side whilst serving out his senior-coaching apprenticeship. First grade isn't his concern, it's Cappy's and, then if that doesn't work out, probably Cleary's.
