I don't think a brains trust of Jack Gibson, Wayne Bennett, Warren Ryan and Phil Gould could coach our outside backs to a premiership

I still voted yes to the poll as Bennett would see the problem and fix it

we have juniors that could fill those spots so its not like we'd have to recruit half a dozen new players
True. Replace coached with managed.

But we don’t use them.
Instead we recruit what are trumpeted to the members as “depth signings” like Latimore or Peirra who are then use in first grade at the expense of getting some good 19/20 y.o players into first grade, as other clubs do.

We also sign numerous players other clubs don’t want.

Nene Mcdonald. Now while I appreciate he can score from 10 metres out as good as anyone, can you honestly say he would have scored either of the 70 metre tries Remis Smith did against us on Sunday? Because I’ve never seen him do it.

Tim Lafai. Has he ever scored a long range try for the Dragons? He has good footwork and a, sometimes, decent flick pass. But the way we are coached he very rarely uses them anymore.

Jordon Pereira. Another 26y.o no one else wanted, signed as a “depth signing”. Someone explain to me why he’s a better prospect than Lomax, Feild or Herbert.

Latimore. Another “depth signing” no one else wanted. Is he a better long term prospect than Host or Lawrie?

We keep signing players no one else wants as “depth” and then use them in first grade in front of young guys who deserve thier shot.

Bennett alone cannot fo it
He would need a high quality support team
We have been exposed as a mentally week and soleless football side and that in itself is a difficult thing to turn around

His “safety first” approach kills us.
He believes that if he selects “journey men” players in first grade they make less mistakes than rookies, less mistakes equals more 2 points wins and a contract extension.
He never looks beyond the next game, sometimes not even that.

Not convinced Bennett alone is not getting too old and whether he is past it. He will be 70 soon. But majority votes on here rule. Bennett it is.

I voted no.

I think as a coach he now requires really good assistants to run the show. He wont get that at the Dragons.

However, if this question was put as "who thinks we would win a premiership if Bennett was coaching director" then i'd be all over that.

Surely you don't really believe that Bennett would keep our current backline!

The last time he came he here we had a great backline, all he had to do was sort out our forwards.

This time we have great forwards and good halves, all he has to do is sort out the backline.

Gee..Had no problem getting the Broncs UP last week , esp allowing for all the scrutiny going on at their Club...
What did our mob offer in the same week ??

That's one game, mate. The other thing is that Bennett has a couple of year's left as a maximum. Not enough time to bring about the sweeping change most on here want to see. If you're serious about changing the club why not advocate for a coach who can do what Bellamy has done for Melbourne and bring long term success, rather than someone who would be a quick fix at best.

Bennett's record with us, Newcastle and even Brisbane now is that he does not develop youth or want to do the hard yards in rebuilding a club. He poaches players and goes all guns blazing for a premiership which is to the detriment of the club when that fails.

To be honest, I'd love to see Anthony Griffin at our club. He has an eye for talent and developing youth which is more what our club is about then trying to mimic the roosters or Broncos attempts to buy premierships.

Isaako - poached from the sharks
Nikorima - local boy however went to the roosters and blooded by Griffin.
Shibasaki - played one game, wowee.
Staggs - fair enough.
Pangai - Poached from Canberra.
