No more 1 year coaching deals. I'm sick of the speculation as a supporter, so I can only imagine what effect the uncertainty has on the players and coaching staff themselves. If we bring in someone with experience, bring them on board for 2-3 years with the view of grooming Mary or Hornby to take over. If they club want to back Mary, give him a 2-3 year deal with 1 external, experienced assistant (preferably a defensive coach) and back him full.

Enough of this short term crap. Weve got a young team and talented juniors, enough to look at creating a dynasty of Red V in the Top 4. Lets get a coaching.plan to match.

Agree, this wait and see approach does no one any favours, even us supporters feel there is no stability (remember the last 21/2 years with the uncertainty with Price.

Last night on 'Sports Today', Gibbsy said that it was 'on the cards' that Bennett was coming back to the Dragons.

He gave no other indication as to the source or accuracy of that information.

I took it with a grain of salt.
We have been too quiet in signing any players, we need forwards and we have bought none so you never know, something could be cooking.

Gotta have the right coach to sign for 3yrs and that means not one thats just been sacked! Also a coach that knows how to win a premiership would be great. Otherwise if Mary gets us in the 8 from the rabble we were I'm happy to sign him for a year cos as we have seen in the past there can be a Honeymoon effect which is why I would expect a 1yr deal to prove himsilf

And then what next year? Player signings and re-signings keep getting put on hold, form isnt good enough to sign him long term, but too good to dump him, uncertainty creeps in...its not good for morale and its a shit look for the club. Plus its gotta have an effect on the coach more than anything.

Need a long term plan. If they are going to stick with Mary, back him the whole 9 yards with a reasonable contract length, support staff and good team. Otherwise, dont waste his time or ours!

You have some valid points and I'm sure if we make the GF this there will be calls to sign Mary long term. I'm not a fan of signing an average coach long term so if its not the top 4 stick with Mary and give him a chance to show its not a Honeymoon effect. If we start off well next year we can always upgrade his contract. There's no evidence to suggest we are not signing players due to our present coaching position. I'm sure form under Price cost us overs and maybe some players but I believe Mary is well respected throughout NRL circles

We will it's just who ,for all this to be so hush hush I smell Bennett.

You could be right though the Newcastle Sims signing does put a lil doubt on it. I'd say in typical Bennett style he still hasn't made a decision but will so in a couple weeks. I'll be surprised but not shocked if he does come back

Rookie coaches at the same club they started?

In some cases yes, of course.
Without thinking about it too hard Bellamy and Hasler for a start.
Doubtless there are others.
Irrelevant to the point I was making though.

Just heard on 4BC Radio that Bennett has told Newcastle that he will not be at Newcastle for 2015 on.

Now for the next announcement. Who do you think he will coach from 2015 on? Will it be the Dragons or the Brooncos?

Seven-time premiership winning coach Wayne Bennett has confirmed he will quit as Knights coach at the end of the season.

Bennett was originally signed until the end of 2015 when first brought on deck by former owner Nathan Tinkler three years ago, but the 64-year-old's contract has been up for renegotiation since the collapse of the mining magnate's ownership several weeks ago.

The former Broncos and Dragons mentor is expected to officially announce his is departing the club after three years of service later today, with speculation regarding a return to either his old clubs set to increase as a result.

St. George Illawarra in particular is firming as a likely destination for Bennett, given the club's sacking of head coach Steve Price earlier this year, and the refusal of the Dragons to commit long-term to current interim coach Paul McGregor.

Bennett will carry the clipboard for his 700th top grade game as coach this weekend when the Knights clash with the Sharks in a bid to claim a third successive win and further distance themselves from what would be the first wooden spoon of his 27-year career.

The man Bennett replaced as Knights mentor when he first arrived at the club, and current Knights assistant and NSW Cup coach Rick Stone is the early frontrunner for the club's head coaching position in 2015.

If the board want to make up for the last 2.5 years of lost time and gain the benefits of the financial side of things that Bennett will bring back to the club and watch out redv memberships go through the roof, then Bennett is a must.
