It's a cultural thing. You watch European basketball games and the atmosphere is just the same as football, people jumping up and down and singing non-stop and even the odd smoke bomb.

North American and Australian sporting crowds are too apathetic for one reason or another. Happy to just follow the jumbotron going "DEEE-FENCE! DEEE-FENCE!" or "(TEAM NAME)" with clapping in between
@Parra! *Clap Clap Clap* hes talking shit about you

Can NSWRL fans now see why there are RL fans outside of NSW who are sick of the sport’s Sydney-centric policies?

The only reason RL fans outside of NSW don't rebel like the soccer thugs is because we're accustomed to being treated like second-class citizens by dumb administrators from Sydney who don't have a clue.

Soccer fans don't want their game to end up like ours.

In can't see how anyone can spin what happened yesterday as anything but complete thuggery.

This could well spell the end of that competition as we know it.

It's a total embarrassment to the sport and its fans.

You should just be grateful we let you join our comp. Expansion should have ceased after 1967.
Grateful?

You used gaming machine revenue to kill our competition. NSW was the only state that allowed gaming machines in licenced venues until 1991.

Sydney clubs aren't worthy of playing against juggernauts like the Broncos and Cowboys. The tiny amount of revenue that the Sydney clubs generate from football operations is laughable and proves rugby league is not very popular in Sydney.

Look at the dismal amount of revenue the Sydney clubs generate from ticketing, merchandise, membership, sponsorship and corporate hospitality.

Money talks. Bullshit walks.

If Sydney's clubs were worth a damn then businesses would be throwing large sums of money at them to promote their products. The fact a small regional city of 180k in FNQ generates way more money from football operations than all of the Sydney clubs is a damning reality check for all of the arrogant NSWRL fans on here who think they're superior to the rest of the world. When they're provided with this information they just laugh like immature lunatics because they've been owned and don't have a coherent response.

Soccer has a sizeable segment of fans who rebel violently when they're angry. This ain't the first time soccer fans in this country have vandalised stadia and endangered the safety of other people. It's just the largest and most visible incident that cannot be swept under the rug. The APL should have known their callous disregard of fans from outside of Sydney would create a civil war within the soccer community. All they saw was money on the table and couldn't give a f**k about the interests of the parochial fans that keep the competition alive.

Rugby League has done the same thing to rugby league fans outside of Sydney for decades. If we keep catering to Sydney then our game will lose fans in Queensland. If you were a genuine fan of Queensland rugby league you would speak up for the game and stop pandering to a bunch of insular morons who want the game to be based around the interests of Sydney's small rugby league clubs. Our game should have expanded to Adelaide and Perth decades ago, but chose to sacrifice those cities for small Sydney clubs. We're suffering the consequences for it in our poor TV deals that are getting swamped by AwFuL. Enjoy rugby league's decline into irrelevancy, as that's the future if it doesn't stop pandering to Sydney.

RL fans don’t chant because Bulldogs fans can’t remember the words, Warriors fans think it’s a call to a brawl, Sydney City fans think it’s beneath them, Manly fans need to practice two part harmonies, Tigers fans can’t sing and drink beer at the same time, Penrith fans think rap is the only music, North Queensland fans need a busted banjo accompaniment, Dragons fans are too busy complaining to each other, Titans fans prefer to remain under-cover, Melbourne fans can only sing those AFL style 1950‘s pub shanties, Sharks fans just think it’s uncool, Raiders fans chant but, as it requires coordination, they can only keep it going for 30 seconds max, Rabbits fans have a chant but it’s stuck on repeat since 1963 before Redfern became gentrified, Broncos fans can only do boot-scooting songs, Newcastle fans are just too depressed to sing.
Have I missed anyone?

And that is exactly what happened last night. Fans were absolutely livid over the shite decisions that the A-League keep making.
I dont condone what happened, it just the way fans were feeling.

What is laughable is what if the shoe was on the other foot?
Imagine if V'Landy's signed a 3 year deal with the QLD Govt to hold the GF in Brisbane for the next 3 years?
All we would see is wankers on LU complaining. Fans would not take a stance at games. They would not plan walk outs or any such thing at games.
Yet, as I said, last night 's fan behavior was over the top and unacceptable. All they had to do was walk out as planned and what they eventually did do. Every one of those wankers who invaded the field should be banned for life, and the clown that threw the bin at Tom Glover should be given jail time.

The biggest problem for soccer is many of their fans are passionate young men from lower socio-economic backgrounds with too much time on their hands. They also form tribalistic supporter groups. When emotions spill over they resort to mob behaviour because that's what angry young men do when they're in a pack.

Rugby league fans are older and don't form these sort of groups to the same extent, although it does happen from time to time. I saw a fight at a Great Britain vs Australia game at Lang Park in 2006. It was between a group of young Australian men who were part of a group and an older English gentleman who slapped one of them.

Having experienced the atmosphere at English rugby league games it’s actually quite brilliant

it would make going to the game so much more enjoyable

even a crowd as small as 5k at Oldham almost made me crap with how loud they were

the hull derby was one of the best rugby league experiences in my life as was Wigan vs saints in Wigan

even a standard Friday night game of Leeds vs hull in the old south stand at headingly was like being in a mosh pit

but I don’t know if it would ever work in Australia. I went to an a league game years ago of central coast vs Sydney fc and the two fan groups were trying to do chants and sticking figures up at one another and it was really cringeworthy

I honestly find the suggestion that the APL is somehow responsible for what happen yesterday disgusting.

Whatever you may think of the decision to sell three grand finals to Sydney it doesn't justify an escalation to violence of any sort, and the people whom perpetrated said violence should be found, have the book thrown at them, and barred from attending any major sporting event in Australia for life. There should be serious discussions about disbanding The OSM as well.

Furthermore, the actions of OSM members yesterday destroyed any hopes that unified protest could have had on getting the APL's decision overturned... So they've shot themselves, and most other soccer supporters, in the foot if their goal was to send a message to the APL.

The APL isn't responsible for the pitch invasion, but they need to be asked why better precautions weren't taken to protect the players. The fact the pitch invaders were able to bring flares to the ground and managed to get them past security is a huge red flag on the APL's poor record of keeping troublemakers away from games. This isn't the first time flares have been used by fans at A-League games. Security needs to search attendees better to ensure these sort of items do not make it through the gates. Anyone caught with a flare in their possession should be evicted.

According to this video the OSM were always going to invade the pitch and it was well known on social media.

Quite possibly the stupidest thing you’ve ever posted .
& that’s a monumental achievement .

I posted a video from a Brisbane Roar fan who expressed his anger over the A-League becoming Sydney-centric like the NRL. The bloke actually compared it to the NRL. He mentioned fanbases from multiple teams planning a walkout at the 20th minute mark of games across the country because they object to Sydney getting the next three grand finals. Try watching the videos before you make a dickhead out of yourself.

In The Fight Club you tried to claim a State of Origin game is no different to a regular season NRL match. If you believe that then you're obviously a moron who hasn't got a clue and probably went to a special school.

You're one the biggest morons I've ever encountered. There are kids in special schools who have a better understanding of the English language than the mangled rubbish you post. You're such an uneducated idiot you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're".

Firstly, the APL and teams only have so much control over stadium security, so it's pretty silly to blame them for that.

Secondly, security was lowered at A-league events after years of active supporters groups, and A-league fans more generally, claiming that the heightened security at soccer games, and specifically around active supporters groups, was discrimination, and that crowd disturbance and rates of violence at A-league matches was similar to other major sporting events (which is technically true, but also a twisted statistic as the types of violence are different, but this is a tangent).

Finally, though it's not impossible that some individual members of OSM had said they planned to invade the pitch (who knows), OSM it's self had not made it public that they planned to invade the pitch. That's simply untrue. They were vocal on social media about participating in the protests by walking out of the stadium on the 20th minute, but A. that's obviously not what happened, and B. it wouldn't have been a problem if they did. In fact it's what they should have done just like all the other active support group in the league managed to do without assaulting multiple people.

In other words, active support groups got the privileges they wanted back, only to abuse them relatively quickly after that point, and the only people to blame for that, and the inevitable crackdown that will come to soccer games nationwide, is the OSM. This isn't a time to shift blame or try to use this to push an agenda. Those f**kwit OSM members were the sole cause of the problem, they've bought this down on the A-league and soccer more generally, and they deserve everything that they get for it.

It's just bloody lucky that things didn't escalate, if City's fans had taken it on themselves to defend their team or take revenge, then it could have been an even bigger shit show.
