Why little mention of the CQ NRL bid?

Should the NRL introduce two new teams

Using a local team (Dolphins) in the top grade is fraught with danger, despite people not turning up to local games, they still have a connection their local team and consider the Dolphins to be there "enemies".

I'm still not sold on a particular form of a 2nd brisbane team, but I know we need one.

Do we all agree that Suncorp should be the venue?

Short answer: Yes.

Our transport network all points towards the CBD/Lang Park. We're less like Sydney and more like Melbourne in that regard.

The next QLD team into the NRL after the entry of the CC Bears and WA Reds should be a Brisbane team - called them Brothers or the Diehards - two clubs that the Bronco's killed.

But where should they play - Lang Park and that way Brisbane can watch a game every weekend.

Rocky has Bundaberg a three hour drive away and it has Rum.

What - boring? ;-)

I don't live in Brisbane - do not know it's nuances or how it works. Therefore I will not act like the plethora of interstate morons who reckon they could fix Sydney's problems with stupid ideas like making all clubs play at SFS or ANZ.

I have no opinion on where a second Brisbane side should be, although the Redcliffe club has a long and proud history and won't have the plastic new car smell that gets no one excited apart from whoever wins the catering contract and the local sports reporter.

What must happen is this: The new side MUST have some claim to Brisbane's CBD and/or industrial heartland or it will be swamped financially by the Broncos the same way the Crushers were off the field. Ipswich to me is the same as Campbelltown - heaps of people and no money.

The Brisbane Diehards ...I LOVE IT!!!

How good would that be - bringing back the spirit of the Diehards (Brisbane's most successful RL club) through a 2nd Brisbane NRL team.

Most of the old BRL fans would immediately jump on board.

Redcliffe dont have the as much "tradition" in Brisbane Rugby League as some other teams, they entered the BRL in 1960.

I disagree, Diehards were one team, fans of Wests, Norths, Wynnum etc. HATED Valleys.

If per chance Sydney league only had one team, and it was the Roosters would all Sydney fans "flock" to there games?

I've mentioned this before - I think it's a massive shame that Ballymore is so close to Suncorp. Otherwise if you improved transport links to it, it would be the ideal venue for a new club.

26,000 seats, very modern ground and would be the ideal way to help differentiate the side from the Bronco's.

But it's proximity to Suncorp means it's unlikely.

No to mention being the traditional home of Union??

Lang Park is the home of Rugby League in Brisbane, why not play there???

Having an NRL team play in a sh*tty stadium in a horrible location that he has never been to is his 'thing'. Let him dream.

What's wrong with the Sunshine Coast getting a team? SC Dolphins anyone?

A second Brisbane team needs to happen before a SC team imo.

Yes, I've been to Ballymore. It's better than just about every club ground in Sydney.

Why base a new club that will struggle for support in a 52,000 seat behemoth? Playing out of a more intimate setting in their own ground would help them get off the ground.

And get over the union factor. It's a 26,000 seat stadium, who gives a sh*t what's traditionally been played there?

Yes but that was a long time ago and any hatred these teams had towards the likes of Brothers and Valleys has evaporated. It's now all fond memories.

The Brisbane Diehards would be a lasting symbol for the old BRL and I reckon many of the old fans would jump on board if marketed correctly.

Great name too.

But keep coming up with ideas for a 2nd Brisbane team peoples. There's probably a better one than this out there. I'm sure there is.

You've been there? Then you'd know it's a bitch to get to, especially compared to Lang Park. sh*t location, sh*t amenities, sh*t transport, sh*t capacity, etc, etc, etc.

I'm not saying you can't dream. I'm just saying that's all it is, a dream.

If the QLD Reds can play out of Suncorp then so can a 2nd Brisbane NRL team.

Just putting this out there. All of the other Queensland teams have names taken from the NFL. If I was a betting man I'd be having a look here. http://www.nfl.com/teams

The funny thing is that in the last few years both the Reds and Roar have weighed up the option of moving to Ballymore instead of Lang Park. Both have opted to stay at the Cauldron as it is seen as the premier Brisbane venue and apparently moving to Ballymore would've impacted their image among fans.

Also both teams average in the 10-20K range so a 25'000 seater would suit them perfectly. Whereas it's almost certain that a second Brisbane NRL team would be averaging over 30'000 from day one...

Jets, Dolphins or Giants would be worth a shout.

For the second brisbane team I'd go with the name Brisbane Jets. I wouldn't call them Ipswich because it somewhat limits the appeal for someone not living in Ipswich. Either "Brisbane" or "South Queensland" for the name. Have them play in traditional Jets colours (Dark Green) and play all games out of Suncorp.

Great. Now Queenslanders are copying seppos ffs!

The Jets were blue, not green. Canberra is Green. Randwick are green. Newtown was definitely blue.
