A cursory glance of St George Leagues Club’s annual reports for the past three years tells the story. In 2017, it contributed $2.5m to the joint venture. In 2018, that was cut to $1.7m. In 2019, it dropped to $500,000. But it has $19m in cash reserves, which is up from $15m the year before.

Anyone know why they’ve dropped it so far?

I cant remember which thread it was but I do recall that games at Kogarah, or the decreasing nature of them, was key in their decision.

Granted its been happening for years now.

Yeah, agreed.
19 mil sitting the the Leagues Club and a wealthy Gordon, but they couldnt ( or wouldnt ), come up with 1.5 mil to move a coach on. Its baffling to me.

I think the wording of the petition needs more logos & ethos..

That and 500 is a pretty light target if you want change..

That’s what, 2.5% of the membership base, let alone the fan base..

Needs to aim higher if they actually want to make an impact..

Can we get away from the stupid St George vs Illawarra fight in the sandpit. SGI is here to stay whether we like it or not and the blame game simply illustrates just how stuffed we are at the moment. The longer we champion dreams of returning to the stand alone Saints or Illawarra, the longer this club will spend its time weakening itself. The best way to protect this club is not necessarily through money but through success on the field. While I know one follows the other our biggest weakness at the moment is that we have become irrelevant on the field. Until Gordon, Doust and crew come to realise that the NRL head office is still talking about a second Brisbane team and yet maintain that the competition will stay the same size, the better our future will become. And Doust and Gordon need to realise that the RedV does not have a god given right to exist, the creation of the venture with Illawarra should have shown that. What needs to be remembered is that our new glorious head of the NRL does not spend too much time consulting with people. So let’s get out of the sandpit, show our anger re Mary by all means but we need to stop imploding. The sending of a petition asking for St George to stand alone that I heard about today is silly and would only be another step towards the Dragons suicide.

Exasperated St George fans have started a petition to break away from Illawarra and end the merger between the two clubs.

The two clubs merged in 1999 and, apart from one memorable premiership win under Wayne Bennett in 2010, have been largely plagued by mediocrity and under-achievement.

There is rumoured to be simmering tension between the old St George and Illawarra factions, which has reached boiling point this season.

The club is proving a disaster on and off the field, yet to win a game, offside with the majority of its supporter base and feuding over the future of embattled coach Paul McGregor.

Angry Dragons fan George Youssif created the petition yesterday and it is quickly gaining support, with almost 300 signatures online in less than 18 hours.

He plans to send it to NRL boss Peter V'landys once more people have come on board.

But they don’t realise St George would end up in NSW cup whilst Illawarra get the 1st grade licence..

We’re stronger together than divided..
