Baz, you know much about Domaine de Font-Sane Tradition Gigondas? Thinking of having a crack at it tonight. Big Grenache blend (72%), followed by Syrah (23%), Mourvedre (3%) and Cinsalut (2%).
Not really mate...I have tried some of their stuff a while ago, but I can't recall exactly which. I do remember liking all the wines I tried though.
Celebrating my Sunday with a bottle of The Islander Red from Kangaroo Island...Malbec/Cabernet Franc/Shiraz/Viognier/Grenache...absolutely brilliant stuff for the money IMO, plummy, lots of cherry, but beautifully savoury on the back.
Left two glasses of the Islander for tomorrow, interested to see how it goes...moved on to Scarborough Chardy with dinner, one of my favourite boutique wineries in the Hunter
This is drinking very well. Much more bold than the Cotes du Rhone from last night due to the larger Grenache percentage. I'm guessing it is the 2% Cinsault that also makes the nose that much more fragrant. Fine tight tannins, great summer berry + dark chocolate notes.
Brilliant blend! I admit, I am an unashamed Shiraz-Viognier lover, which is probably no shock with all the Canberran examples. So maybe that had a lot to do with my enjoyment of it but I thought it was awesome. The shiraz is obviously high quality, spicy and with loads of red fruit, very rich and full...the riesling lifts the nose but also gives it this crazy but delicious jammy lime and wildflower character. It's interesting, which I love, but genuinely delicious. I'm kinda sad it's empty
La Sagrestana Nero D'Avola di Sicilia. For an entry level Sicilian wine, it's actually quite a plesant drink. I must never rag on anything that comes from a factory in Riverwood again.
La Sagrastana Chianti. Good table wine. Will suit most Italian dishes, though I think I would of appreciated this more with some fava beans and a census-takers liver...
Bleasdale 2nd Innings Malbec. Plesant, plenty of fruit in this drink. I would call it the Cab Merlot equivelant for people like me who are not fans of Merlot.
Just to make people hate me even more...picked up 6 Devils Lair cabernets today. For $16.70 each....I am constantly amazed at how a large company like this can f**k up so consistently. Some moron in Melbourne loaded the Hidden Caves price on the Estate cabernet. To them, I say thankyou!
