Metala is good quality. Never understood the love for Pepperjack either.

Metala is excellent value. PJ is always solid, dependable IMO.

The Stefano De Pieri White Label Due Viti 2013, funny passionfruit/floral finish (similar to fat yak). As Drewsta stated earlier, wine priced accordingly. 4/10, quaffer at best. Lucky I only have one more bottle.

Re PJ, it is for this:

Those who want a good strong regular taste know they can count on it. Same as old Blockers; it was a strong and dependable Cab Sauv that always had a consistency to it. People wanted that.

Sorry to hear, mate. Next time you are in the hunt for something from Cellarmasters, PM me and I'll let you know some of the best deals going so you don't have the same experience :)

I honestly think Pepperjack is awful. Overcooked, overworked, mucky, overpriced, too high in alcohol. I genuinely haven't a good thing to say about it. Or any Saltram wines, bar the Metala.

Cheers mate, much appreciated.

it's not a biggie for me, TBH it is part of the journey of drinking wine. You must expand your horizons and try different varieties and wines from different regions discovering how terroir impacts on a particular style of wine. ie. Shiraz.

Some you win, some you lose. All part of the game.

Ballabourneen Gamay Noir 2011.

The Hunter Valley continues its obsession of pegging grape varieties to their more popular cousins (see Semillon Blanc). Fruity like classic Gamay from Beaujolais, but the warmer Hunter climate has resulted in a riper, more bodied wine with an interesting tart finish. This is actually a very enjoyable table wine, reminds me a touch of d'Arenberg Stump Jump GSM but if the Shiraz was swapped out for Sangiovese (and if it cost $8 more). Definitely would be happy to drink again.

P.S. Hunter Valley, your white wine strength is Semillon, market it as an awesome citrus flavoured wine that it is rather than bastardising your key white in a poor attempt to jag some of the NZ SB market.

Agree.

McWilliams did an awesome sweet Semillion, LS8 I think it was, and did a limited 'case count' for it. Gorgeous wine really. The Airport Bloc was more dainty. Very good.

The aged Elisabeth '07 is grand too.

If you can find a bottle, get an aged released bottle of Tempus Two Copper Seal Semillon. Just wow.

Wild Run Pinot Noir. Yarra Valley. Made for le merkins I work for by Innocent Bystander. Full bodied by pinot standards, buckets of fruit, nice earthy tannins. I rate it better than the actual Innocent Bystander

Chateau La Garousse. Bordeaux wine, Merlot predominant by reports. Classic Claret, but not a wine that will age. Has something in it that tells me it will taste mouldy if left for any more than 18 months, although it is freshly opened so something may change in 30 minutes (particularly after a bottle of Gamay).

You merkins are making me jealous with this bordeaux. I have a couple of bottles of the stuff but I refuse to open them tonight...

Is it only me that finds Semillon Blanc sickly sweet and vomitous. Being a Kiwi, I have had my fair share of Sav Blanc, but I'm even off that now.

Seem to be forever hunting for a nice dry white with only a hint of citrus. A good Pinot Gris fits, but not usually with my bank account. With Gris, you definitely get what you pay for

Redbank Pinot Gris, Brown Bros Pinot Grigio, Wolfberger Pinot Gris, Dal Zotto Pinot Grigio, Pizzini Pinot Grigio. Just a few around or sub $20 ones worth a go Skinz. Also you should give Viognier a go. And just cos I can, Hugel Gentil. Blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling, gewurtztraminer and Pinot blanc. Well worth a look

Cheers mate. The Viognier I have tried, I have enjoyed. The blend sounds great. Thanks.

Took a punt & bought a case (12) of Pirramimma `Eight Carat` Merlot 2012, snagged it for $93 (shipping included).

Has anyone else tried Pirramimma's Merlot. I've tried some of their other reds, which i didn't mind. Cheers.

Henry Fessy Chateau de Labourons Fleurie.

The best part of Beaujolais, done very nicely. If you told me this was a Rhone red I'd probably believe you. Intensely aromatic and perfumed, rich and full bodied, ridiculous black fruit. Probably would have been nice to keep a glass or two for tomorrow but the bottle mysteriously vanished....

Then that horrendous moment when you have a bottle of something special & the last drop glides down.
