Meanwhile, having some folks around. Felt like drinking some sparkling. Sir James Tumbarumba 2008.

So. First Choice have f**ked up. This is a $38 shelf priced wine. They bought the entire vintage at discount prices, so they've been flogging it for $20. Good deal, yes? Well they then put on this buy 2 get 1 free sale and put the price back up in the catalogue to $38, despite advertising the $20 price until Nov 4. Long story short, they have had to put it on buy 2 get 1 free at $20.

Anyway the wine is f**king awesome. Complex, a little bready, excellent bead, citrus acidity. There is no better value sparkling in Australia

Just a quick query to those who have a vast knowledge of wineries. The beautiful bride & I are heading down to Melb end of March next year. We've decided to drive to enable us to do some wineries on the way back.

Looking at heading over to the Bellarine peninsula & see Scotchmans Hill

Rutherglen - All Saints estate - any other decent ones in the area ?

Orange - Philip Shaw - other than that I'm pretty much clueless.

Any assistance/feedback would be appreciated no matter how positive/negative.

Cheers

In all seriousness if you have the time you should pop over to the King Valley. It's practically next door to Rutherglen.

Anyway, 2010 Ashbrook Margaret River Chardonnay. Full bodied, rich, but not a massive amount of oak which allows for a savoury finish with plenty of acid. Brilliantly made wine. I think I have a new favourite chardonnay, seeing as I can get the Scotchmans Hill anywhere....

2010 Pepper Tree Ltd Release Orange Cabernet. This is why cool climate cabernet>>>>>Coonawarra. And 2010 wasn't even a particularly good vintage in Orange. Dark and rich, but not over the top or hot like Coonawarra often is. Elegant with loads of spice too. And no palate hole! Probably a few years off it's best yet
