Not at all.

Ping cant pass, kick (except for maybe out on the full in general play:crazy: ) or organise a Mardi Gras float (lucky phonechukka already has one :p ).

So IF Birdbrains gonna get the 5/8 spot who will handle the 1/2 and 5/8 duties????

Being serious, if Pearce is coached well and lives up the hype, he will be NSW half in a couple of years. But this year? Ridiculous.

pearce looks the goods.

an australian schoolboy and hes still very young. if he keeps going the way he went last year, hell be a good player.

having said that though the chooks shouldve kept soward at five eigth, and left anasta at lock. soward had a really good year for the saints last year

2002 the year the roosters won the competition, remind me who the half back was?

Aslong as Anasta and kimmorley are no where to be seen i'll be happy.

I'm tipping an Orford/Bird combo in game 1. If they fail then maybe Carney/Mullen/Wing will come into consideration.

Fittler did all the work in the halves. Backwards is correct, I can't see wing going well at halfback either. He played in the halves for the roosters in 05/06, and we were no better. Even when fittler put him in the halves last yr, anasta did everything.

fittler was playing at 5/8th before wing was half though wasnt he, howd they go?

of the available candidates, wing stands a chance. im not saying hes favourite. but if he goes well at souths, why not?

hes won a GF, played origin and tests.

williams was a australian half as i recall . a season of big forwards running you will tell re pearce. let him get a full season playing and playing well and then talk about representative selection. i think he is only a 50% chance of playing a full season in 2008 at this stage.

Fittler played 1/2 and 5/8.

Watch the GF again or the highlights video, Fittler put Ping over for every try he scored. Freddy also did all the kicking and organising.

Like Bwaiff did late last year when Ping wore 7.

Go and watch ANY of those last 8 or so games.

Made a GF in 00 and made the semis every year Fred played at the club.

FFS he even carried Funch and made him look the goods for 2 seasons. Made 2 GFs with the monkey too.

Ping is a hole runner at best. If he has a real position it would be as an oldschool inside centre like Ella or Horan (that Yawnion clown).

In fact he is/was a better fullback. Great runner of the footy, very good defender.

Has no footy smarts. I hope he plays 1/2 at souffs. Cos they dont have a Fittler at that club. Then we will see the truth.

I think JT will use him at hooker/utility.

If this wasnt the centenary year, it wouldnt really bother me who we choose, but this is a big year so its important. Id say take Jack Gibsons policy, choose the 17 best players possible then worry about positions.

I don't think he will stand a chance tbh. Doesn't take a genious to work out that fittler was doing all the work in the halves in 02. Not taking anything away from wing, he was one of my favourite players but imo he played better in the hooker position. Even last yr with anasta, wing was always playing second reciever and hooker. If bird is going to be the 5/8, someone else besides wing needs to be the halfback, someone with a good kicking game.

actually i wouldnt be dissapointed if i seen this lineup

9. Farah
7. Campbell
6. Bird

Campbell is not creative enough to carry Bird. You need at least one of your halves to be creative and guide the side around the park.

Campbell at half isn't a bad idea but not with Bird at 5/8

The fact is Bird is likely to be selected at 5/8. He did okay
Hooker is likely to be Farah.

What odds of two hookers being selected?

too harsh i think

the chooks made a big mistake letting wing go

yes he played better at hooker, but didnt go bad at half though

NSW dont have many standout choices. orford would be it but i think hell struggle this year without monaghan

under taylors coaching who knows how good wing will turn out. as an ex half back himself and a great coach, i think taylor will get the best out of wing

the guy is a very talented player

if bird doesnt play 5/8h for the sharks, then how can he get it for nsw.

id think anasta would be a better option.

the halves certainly are up for grabs, and good nrl form will decide it more than previous yrs.

preston campbell is a fantastic player but hes playing full back now
