The AFL had a two team comp (one or two matches per year) with players chosen via draft for the three years before the AFLW started. It looks like the this is an expanded version of that to test the water. Four teams three rounds played as curtain raisers to NRL finals then the GF on GF day. Surely it will go to 8 + teams in a couple of years.Netball has done things the proper way and worked very hard (good domestic and international product depth etc) but AFLW is already rivaling it with their kinks and all.
There's actually a massive rivalry between the two codes players because netball has been working for years to gain a foothold and AFLW just rocked up and changed the landscape within a year.
But to be honest RLW done properly would wipe the floor with both, so I hope the NRL really looks at doing this properly.
I just don't know how you structure 4 teams to be competitive, hopefully 2 more are added asap.
