Women's NRL

Netball has done things the proper way and worked very hard (good domestic and international product depth etc) but AFLW is already rivaling it with their kinks and all.
There's actually a massive rivalry between the two codes players because netball has been working for years to gain a foothold and AFLW just rocked up and changed the landscape within a year.
But to be honest RLW done properly would wipe the floor with both, so I hope the NRL really looks at doing this properly.

I just don't know how you structure 4 teams to be competitive, hopefully 2 more are added asap.
The AFL had a two team comp (one or two matches per year) with players chosen via draft for the three years before the AFLW started. It looks like the this is an expanded version of that to test the water. Four teams three rounds played as curtain raisers to NRL finals then the GF on GF day. Surely it will go to 8 + teams in a couple of years.

Paul Kent on 360 has reported that both Souths and Cronulla told the nrl that there is no money to be generated in the womens league. He also said that both these clubs have done more for the womens game than any other clubs. He then said that the Roosters and St.George leagues clubs are paying for their teams to be in the comp. Thats how they got the licenses.
If thats true then at least its clear what happened.

One major advantage we have for the NRLW over the traditional rival here is that the skills of League are extremely basic and easy to pull off compared to theirs so the visual quality of watching may not actually be that bad.
I've browsed past the competition's women's games and the skill level is on another planet to the men's game. I actually can't understand who can truly follow it as any sort of alternative.

The smaller margin in skill between the men and women here may be something that will help the general public actually get behind the womens comp which can only be a good thing long term.

What Women’s NRL premiership?
It hasn’t even started yet as far as I know.

I based my opinion on the only thing I could.

One club looked well drilled and professional
The other was utter rubbish.
All that shows is your limited knowledge of the women's game. You and fellow fans are coming in here regurgitating everything from your clubs' press release as though it's 100% gospel and using an U18s comp played in an entirely different format as some sort of proof that you're entitled to a team.

I've already previously agreed that Cronulla *probably* should have gotten a team but the decision's been made. Get angry, tell the world but the comp will happen regardless and the Sharks will be there within a season or two.

Given what's already been said about the Dragons in this thread, that sounds like a load of horse shit. Then again it's Paul Kent.

I know this is being too generous to the NRL and clubs but if this rejection of Cronulla and Souths was a ploy between NRL, Cronulla and Souths to drum up interest and media attention then it would be pretty ingenious. Get Rusty demanding satisfaction, challenging Greenberg to a duel. Organise a protest game Souths v Cronulla (any funds raised goes to Cam Smith of course). Good news story with Souths and Cronulla both admitted at the 11th hour.

It could be pretty good drama.

I imagine when the NSWRL was formed in 1908 there would have been similar politics and drama about who gets a spot.

The loser in all this is the meat head Western Sydney knuckle dragging clubs who don't even care about WNRL.

I am in agreement with you in regards to Kent.
I'm going to copy and paste what @Vin Fizz wrote in the Sharks forum. He has articulated it way better than I ever could. Kent was more having a go at the NRL than the clubs. He thought Souths and Cronulla were ripped off.

"I took a slightly different message out of it BBB. I may have it wrong but the Rorters and Dragons clubs agreed to underwrite their involvement. So my guess is they'd be required to tip dough in to cover the losses associated with their involvement on the proviso that the comp makes a loss as expected. Souffs and the Sharkies stood their ground and said we want a well run solid competition, which isn't the model that the NRL were presenting, but could be if they adopted a model that the Sharkies and Souffs had developed through experience. Seriously, is that how the NRLdo business?"

Vin explains it a great deal better than I.

What other comp should I be watching to follow my club then?
What other comp got to play before 1st grade?

...also ..what part of my clubs press release is bullshit?

Good to see the sharks and Souths showing that they should be the 1st 2 teams from Sydney and that no one but them should have the right to play in the women’s league. Why don’t they form a breakaway super women’s league and get Murdoch to support it. They could play each other in a 11 match series’s. Get Debbie Spillane back and put it on the ABC. I know the sharks aren’t travelling well but putting all your hopes on the women’s team for a premiership is hard . It’s only up to round 4.

It's true though that out of most sports NRL doesn't look as different with women.
I assumed it's because it uses fundamentals like tackling, good passing and set plays.
These can be replicated in the women's game quite well.

With regards to the AFLW they actually seem to tackle far harder than their male counterparts, which should be embarrassing to the AFL lol.

This is where I thought the womens world cup games looked better than the mens WC and the NRL.
The balance between the ball skills and the brutality is for obvious reasons at a much more eye catching level. The women throw it around. I don't think they want to get bogged down in wrestling and "completions". Just hit each other and then let the ball do the talking. I am actually hopeful that the WNRL will look like better RL than the NRL and maybe this will have a positive influence on the way the players and coaches want to play NRL .

Here's my idea

It's only a 3 week comp.

Why don't Sharks and Souths come together and make a tri series at the same time.

Games played at SCGS and Redfern, split gate takings 50/50, members free.

Call it the Exile Cup, and when both teams get admitted to the comp (ha!) We can't continue the rivalry by still playing for that trophy.

This way we can still retain our respected squads, the girls still play and get paid, and absolute 0% of profit will go to the NRL

NRL beleives all Souths and Cronulla contracts are null and void and the 40 centrally contracted players can be told to go to club X or Y under a sudo draft

Cronulla and Souths players like Simms and Studdon are in the Jillaroo contract setup
