Compare the afl where it's indigenous stars are called Apes and booed for doing a cultural dance (during their supposed indigenous round), to the nrl who actually dedicate a whole week to promoting indigenous causes and letting our proud indigenous players show case their culture, it's a huge PR free kick to the nrl. It's always sold out on the Gold Coast and always had decent tv viewership. Between the allstars and the 9s (and to a lesser extent the wcc) the nrl has a much better approach to starting the new season compared to afls incredibly stale NAB cup.
Go into a remote indigenous community and you'll actually see a heaps of indigenous allstar merchandise, these are in places that are almost 100% afl mad, yet the most popular merchandise is the indigenous allstar merchandise.

Dumb concept developed by a fraud to funnel extra 'rep' payments to Titans players and attempt to fill a dead stadium in a failed nrl town.

So is it f**ken "world" all stars or still "nrl" all stars???

"The World All Stars team will include at least one player – and a maximum of two players - from each NRL Club."

So it's still NRL all stars...?

Unless they are from other comps wats new from last year???

The World concept is strange - wonder if anyone's given any though (or there's value) in an Indigenous All Star team vs a NZ Maori 'All Star' team?

Im glad they have ditched the online voting bullshit. That made the even such a gimmick!!!

Im also glad that the ARLC recognises the events concept was getting stale and that theyre willing to trial new ideas.

The Indigenous side is a fantastic representation of RL (i reckon they inspire more national emotion than the Kangaroos), but they need to have a legitimate opposition. I dont know if this is the long term answer, but its a good step.

I realist Polynesian/Melonesian/etc are different cultures, but i reckon the players and fans would be happy just to represent their nations on such a large stage.
And, it gives players another incentive to represent their islander heritage internationally instead of picking Australia for the Origin games.

Tedesco (tigers)
Mead (titans. Png)
Matai (manly).
Croker ( raiders)
Nightingale ( dragons, nz)
Foran ( eels, nz)
Cronk (storm, aus)
Blair (broncos, nz)
Smith ( storm, aus)
Graham (bulldogs, eng)
O'loughlin (eng)
Cordner ( roosters, aus)
Taumololo (cownoys, nz)

Burgess (souths, eng)
Milford (samoa)
Sims (newcastle, fiji)
Gallen (sharks, aus)
Luke (warriors, nz)
Hurrel (tonga)
Casty (france)

Very hard to pick a team with 4 aus, 4 nz, 4 poms, other nations while also picking at least 1 from each club and a maximum of 2 from each club

Just done my indigenous team online. Annoyingly you can't pick Roberts on the wing, Ferguson in the starting side or Thompson at second row, that aside it's a pretty decent team

1. Inglis
2. E.lee
3. Roberts
4 . Chambers
5. Johnstone
6. Soward
7. Thurston
8. Thaiday
9. Peats
10. A. Fifita
11. Turner
12. Bird
13. Grevsmuhl

14. Ferguson
15. Gagai
16. Whightob
17. Peachey
18. Thompson
19. James
20. D . fifita

It's actually not meaningless to the aboriginal community or the aboriginal players. It also follows a week off amazing community work. At the very least it's an entertaining way to welcome the new season in.

the indigenous team can play in a world 9s..which would be meaningful to EVERYONE

Bennett said in the presser that the players would come from the NRL... Not good enough. Come on RFL.

In Auckland, in front of a foreign crowd
And without the week of buildup to do community work and promotion of indigenous causes? Will their be a chance to promote indigenous culture and working at closing the gap in Auckland?

It's a week of good community work and promotion of indigenous culture, a lot of great indigenous programs and a week of good PR and promotion of rugby league in australia. A fortnight later we get another good week of promotion and PR for rugby league in Auckland.
If you don't like all the good work this game promotes or feel that you can't get invested in a concept that pits an indigenous team against a mixed made up team (if you feel you can't get behind either team), then just enjoy the great football the game produces and the fact that you've got 40 of the most talented footballers in the country playing in the same game

Who said A world nines would be in Auckland

Because the Auckland 9s is contacted to at least 2018 and after the current success you'd think the nrl and new Zealand rugby league would be trying to lock up its long term future and also try make it a regular fixture . A second 9s comp will not only have an effect on Auckland tournament, it's also likely to not have the support of the clubs who already have concerns over the current tournament and still don't send all their best players.

There shouldnt be 4 Aussies in the World team

Think it would be better as Pacific Islander all star team

Or maybe alternate against a Moari all star team every two years

NZ and the Poms have t have eir 4 N event

Also prefer if this game was played on the Sat before GF day

So we dont see season ending injuries in a high intestity game too early in the season
